Graduation Season: Three Cute Ways to Decorate Your Cap
Hey everyone, welcome back to handmade! I'm Gabriella, and it's officially graduation season. As many of you know, I did decorate my cap in college, but now that I've had a few more years of experience, I have so many more ideas for how to do it. Today, I want to school you on three cute ways to decorate your cap.
The first way to make your cap stand out is with flowers. Flowers are very visually impactful and can be a great way to add some color and personality to your graduation cap. For this method, you'll need some faux flowers in your favorite color (I chose pink, of course!). You'll also need a glue skillet – yes, you read that right! A glue skillet is a special type of skillet that contains raw glue, which you can cook by placing it in the microwave or oven until it's melted and gooey. This makes it easy to apply to your cap without having to worry about messy glue. Simply cut the stem off of each flower using wire cutters, and then use the glue skillet to attach them to your cap.
To make this project even easier, I recommend starting with a small test run before you start decorating your entire cap. You can place a few faux flowers on your cap to get an idea of how they'll look and where they'll be most visible. And don't worry if it looks a little rough at first – you can always trim any excess glue or adjust the placement of the flowers as needed. I'm happy to report that this method took me only 10 minutes to complete, and the end result is absolutely adorable.
Of course, not everyone may feel comfortable with fake flowers, so let's move on to a few other ideas. One of my favorite ways to decorate your cap is by paying homage to your pets or favorite hobbies. For this method, you'll need some craft supplies like glitter card stock, scissors, and glue. Start by tracing the shape of a pet's head onto the paper using a plate as a template. I used a cat-shaped plate for my own graduation cap, which features my beloved feline friend Wilson.
Once you have your template cut out, use scissors to trim any excess edges or smooth out the shape. Next, cut out some whiskers from wire and glue them around the nose of the cat. You can also add on other details like eyes or a mouth using markers or paint. Finally, write a message on the cap that's specific to your pet or hobby. For me, I wrote "I went to college for my cat" – it's a bit silly, but it's a great way to commemorate your furry friend.
For a final method, let's talk about roller skates! If you're like me and love to skate, then this is a fun way to incorporate your hobby into your graduation cap. I found some cute roller skate stickers that looked just like my own wheels, so I decided to decorate my cap with them. All you need for this method is some scrap paper, scissors, glue, and a pen.
Start by cutting out the shape of a pair of skates from the paper, using the same plate template as before. Then, cut out individual elements like the wheels or the laces. Write out a message on the cap that's related to your skating hobby, such as "I'm rolling into graduation!" or "Skating my way to success." Finally, glue on the skates and any other details you'd like to include.
Overall, these are just a few ideas for how to decorate your graduation cap. Whether you're a fan of flowers, pets, or roller skating, there's a way to make your cap stand out with personality and style.
