GMC Sierra All Mountain Concept - First Drive

I'm Kind of In a Bit of a Predicament: Exploring the New GMC Sierra All-Mountain Concepts

I'm Christian from Digital Trends, and I'm currently stuck in the side of a mountain in Park City, Utah, in the middle of a really rough blizzard. My vehicle's 4.4 system isn't exactly cutting it, so luckily, GMC is here with their all-new Sierra all-mountain concepts that are equipped with special modifications to help us get out of this situation. But that's not all; we're also going to check out the truck up close and personal.

As I look at his leg, I can tell you right now that if you've seen this thing in pictures, it's pretty darn nuts. Just being on the wheel of this thing is a whole different experience, as we're literally on a ski trail being chaperoned by a bunch of snowmobiles. We're in conditions where any normal car would be stuck down to the mill, and I can tell you that if we tried this in a regular vehicle, we'd be in trouble.

The whole mountain features an awesome kit, with tracks on the wheels instead of the actual wheels. This modification gives us a six-inch lift, allowing us to pretty much go through anything and any kind of snow conditions in this thing. I'd say it's not that difficult to pilot, as it feels just like a 2500 HD Sierra, but with a little more extra traction. The truck is equipped with a sick liter v8, which helps keep us going even when the going gets tough.

We're on 355 horsepower and 4 and foot-pounds of torque, which pretty much means nothing can stop us in this thing. Sadly, GMC says this guy isn't in a reproduction, but that doesn't mean you can't pick up a GMC Sierra yourself and do all these modifications to create your own little rescue vehicle. These tracks are available from a company called Red Tracks, and they make it possible for anyone to get them and build their own truck.

GMC and Mattracks are also teaming up on this project, which means that if you live in conditions like these or in a climate where you're driving through a lot of snow and need to get places, your average 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive car just won't cut it. With the right equipment, anyone can handle situations like this and get back on the road safely.
