I Still Can't Believe It's Been Two Years Since I Started Making Videos on YouTube

I still remember the day I reached 10,000 subscribers like it was yesterday. It was crazy as hell, and my family didn't know I was doing videos on YouTube at the time. We were eating together, and my brother suddenly asked me if he knew I was making videos on YouTube. I told him that no one knows, but he had somehow found out, and we all burst into laughter. It was awkward for a moment, but also kind of cool. I remember when my family finally found out about my videos, it was surreal. My mom, who spoke Dutch, would sometimes struggle to understand me, as English isn't her native language.

It's funny how things have changed since then. Around half a year ago, the Dutch media started paying attention to my channel, and I began getting featured in newspapers and TV shows. It all started when my brother emailed the media outlets about me, which is pretty much how it all began. Suddenly, people wanted me on their show, wanting to interview me or have me do makeup for them. Things got crazy fast.

Looking back, two years ago, I had 3,000 subscribers, and now, I'm at 33,000. It's insane, and I still can't believe it. My channel is still growing, and my views are still increasing. I feel like a completely different person since then. The videos helped me become more confident, which is something I've struggled with for most of my life.

When people comment on my videos, they often say that I'm not the same person I used to be at 14. And you know what? They're right! I have changed so much over the years. I used to be a shy and insecure girl; now, I'm more outgoing and confident. I love interacting with my subscribers, who have become like family to me. The comments and messages I receive are always heartwarming, making me feel grateful for this platform.

I've been thinking about the future a lot lately. I want to continue making videos but may slow down production towards the end of 2024 when I start school in Amsterdam at the Academy of Art and Design. I'm looking forward to studying makeup and hair design. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to make a career out of this! For now, though, I just want to keep creating content that my audience will enjoy.

years ago around this time because I most of the time take my videos at 2:00 um I was here with my with with my ugly brown hair and my fat face and I sat here and I did my first tutorial and I was so mom's camera I'm going to take it I uh sneaked my mom's camera into my room this is the camera I always film my tutorials with I always did it with this baby and um I didn't have a good setup I didn't have good lighting um I opened my window so everyone could hear it um basically my first video sucked as hell and then I remember that I um posted it on YouTube and I had like zero views zero comments zero ratings my channel was viewed zero times and I was like half why am I even doing this I mean I suck at makeup and uh people won like me anyways I'm just fat girl from the nail lens with the sucky exent and everyone will hate me so then I something in my head told me that night like we need action we need to do something about this because so I contacted Makeup Geek TV Marina and um I told her you see I'm 14 years old and you may think I'm a crazy person that's doing makeup tutorials already I'm 14 years old um of age but can you help me I was like how do you set up your videos how do you do your lighting how do you how do you come up with ideas and and stuff and to be honest I never thought Marina would respond to me but like 2 hours later I got a response from Marina and she told me everything Marina was the person who um told me how to set up my videos how to uh come up with ideas how to put on my camera on the right settings she basically what I am today Marina is 50% of that she has 50% she has done 50% of this all so Marina I really want to thank you I'm going to cry because I never thought that you would help me but you stick through with me like you were here from day one till 2 years later right now um I always went to the Makeup Geek TV forum that is where I really grow grown where I've really grown um on the Makeup Geek Forum I showed looks and people were so nice and they told me what I could do better and that would improve my videos so much more so Marina I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me for sticking through with me for always being there for me you are a great great friend and I love you oh God it's getting sentimental already after 2 minutes so I remember my first video where I was like hey you guys so my first I didn't say first I said first that's like the biggest stupid blooper I've done in my entire YouTube career I didn't say first I said ver I remember that I wore this because uh Pena 81 um she wore always like these hatbands that like slick her hair back and Panacea back in that time was my big favorite I know she was like the biggest and I think she's right now too but um or is it Michelle I don't know but um I was like well if it's working for her then it should work for me so I got this super thing and I put it on my head and it looked all crazy um so I had that on in my first video I was like why did you even do that why getting your first common is so weird slash cool SL oh my God at the same time um you're like w someone is actually watching this someone is actually interested in seeing your face which was so freaking weird basically I did that one year long and um in that year I got more and more views um a couple of more subscribers um so after a year if I can remember correctly I had 3,000 subscribers 3,000 so it took me a year to get 3,000 subscribers and that was insane to me like seriously if you would have 3,000 people in my room which doesn't even fit but you know what I mean that's insane they're all watching you and then from this year from 2009 to 2010 um things got pretty pretty hectic let me tell you um I film videos I I most of the time film them on Saturday around 2:00 and I would finish around uh 3:30 then I would edit and I would put them up around 6:00 that was my normal routine and um I did that every week and every week I got a new video and Views and maximum was like 3,000 views and then things started going crazy I got more and more subscribers I I got more and more views I got more and more comments ratings and all of a sudden I was getting bigger and bigger on YouTube and uh then I reached 10,000 subscribers and I really remember that day because it was crazy as hell my family didn't know I was doing this videos and then the day that I had 10,000 subscribers me and my family were eating and then my brother was like so I didn't know you did videos on YouTube and I was like what H how do you know after like a year my family found out about my videos and um it was weird as hell because it was awkward you know you're talking English my family is Dutch no one speaks English properly in my family um so it was kind of awkward for them to talk to see me talk English and to be such another different person and and just be Nikki but aemp times better Nikki when I was a little child I actually went to a therapist and um she uh helped me get more in U more secure so not insecure but secure or self-confident or confident actually so I was really really insecure when I was younger and I was back then too when I first started making videos so when my video so when my family knew about my videos it was so weird but so cool at the same time then actually around half a year ago or like 3 or 4 months ago um the Dutch uh uh newspapers and TV uh uh shows found out about me um actually because of my brother because my brother emailed the heck out of his himself um he emailed the newspapers like yo this is my sister check her out um so then I got in all Dutch newspapers basically and then TV shows started calling like we want you on our show we want you we want to interview you we want you to do makeup for our show and then is and that is the time when things were getting crazy um right now after 2 years I am at 33,000 subscribers that means in one year I got 30,000 subscribers which is insane that is all because of YouTube my channel is still growing My Views are still growing I am still growing um it's insane it's it's so hard for me to believe that this insecure girl from the Netherlands at 14 years old can get so many subscribers and get so many compliments and it has done so much for my uh confidence that I feel a really different person right now I'm not that girl anymore from 2 years ago I have changed um I sometimes I get comments like um you're not the Nikki we used to know anymore um no I changed I've become a confident girl who loves people who loves their sub subscribers would do anything for them and is really happy in life for the future I really want to talk about the future um of course I'm going to keep making videos um I probably won't do it until I'm 30 or something because that will be 15 years that would be the longest never mind actually going to school in Amsterdam I'm going to be Academy and um I will go there for makeup and hair so um probably I will get
