Beauty and the Beast BELLE CAKE Ann Reardon 2017

Creating a Belle Cake from Beauty and The Beast: A Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome to our kitchen where today we're going to make a beautiful Belle cake inspired by the classic Disney movie, Beauty and The Beast. I'm Ann Reardon, and I'll be guiding you through this process step by step.

First Things First: Making the Chocolate Cake Recipe

To start, we need to bake a chocolate cake recipe in two round tins and one heat-proof glass bowl. We'll use the glass bowl as the top of Belle's dress. Once the cakes are baked, we'll level them and move on to making our frosting.

Making the Frosting

For this cake, I'm going to use buttercream and also some ganache, which we'll mix in just for the outside layer not for between the layers. The reason for that is that it's a little bit softer and I don't want the layers to slide off each other. We'll flavor our frosting using Rose Water and color it with a little bit of pink food coloring. For those who are unfamiliar, Rose Water tastes like musk sticks and Turkish Delight.

Now, let's spread a small amount of frosting onto a round cake board and add our first cake. Brush that with simple syrup, which just helps keep the cake moist, and I've added some more rose water into this syrup to intensify that flavor. Spread on a layer of your buttercream, making sure it is level, then add your next cake on top. Repeat the process, spreading frosting as well, smoothing it out, and adding the bowl cake to one side on the very top.

Preparing Belle's Doll

While our cakes are baking, let's prepare Belle's doll. We'll wrap her hair in plastic wrap so that it doesn't get frosting in it, and then wash and dry the body of the doll as well. Using a long knife, cut straight down into the cake, creating it slightly over to one side and making it a skinny rectangle. Don't make it too big or too small, just like Belle's iconic dress.

Creating Belle's Dress

Now that our cakes are ready, let's create Belle's dress. We'll use the glass bowl as the base of the dress. Using our frosting, we'll create a beautiful lace pattern on top of the cake. I'll add some gold dust to give it a luxurious touch. Now, let's move on to the body part of the dress.

Cutting Out the Dress

To cut out the dress, we'll need two pieces of fondant with a point down at the waist and another one going down at the top. We'll wrap these around Belle's body to create the top of her dress. For the back part of the dress, all we need is some fondant and a knife. Cut it to size using a knife and cut it off at the top to make it straight.

Adding Folds and Ruffles

To add folds and ruffles to our dress, we'll use a snake of yellow fondant. Roll a small ball of this fondant and then use your little finger to roll it and make it skinnier in the center. Rub a little bit of water on the top of Belle's dress and add the snake into place, wrapping it around her shoulders. Using a knife, we'll make indents around this piece so it looks like it has folds or ruffles.

Adding Sugar Pearls

To give our cake a touch of magic, we'll add some gold sugar pearls. We can attach these to the join of each fold and around the dress. This will give Belle's dress a sparkly and whimsical look.

Final Touches

Now that our cake is complete, let's add a few final touches. To cover the cake board, I'm using deep blue, which brings out the yellow of her dress. You can use any color you like, so feel free to experiment. For those who have been asking, yes, I am filming this in my new kitchen, and it's still not quite ready. But if you want to see a kitchen tour when it is ready, let me know.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enWelcome to HowToCookThat, I'm Ann Reardonand today this week we're making a Belle cakefrom Beauty and The Beast. The first thing you'll need to do is makeup the chocolate cake recipe and bake thatin 2 round tins and 1 heat-proof glass bowland we'll use that bit for the top of thedress.Once they're baked just level those and thenwe need to make our frosting. For that I'm going to use some buttercreamand also some ganache, we'll mix that in justfor the bit that goes on the outside not forbetween the layers. The reason for that is that it's a littlebit softer and I don't want the layers toslide off each other.I'm also going to flavour that using someRose Water and colour it with a little bitof pink food colouring. Now Rose Water, for those of you who are inAustralia, New Zealand and I think the UK,tastes a bit like musk sticks and TurkishDelight. For those of you in the US (and other countries)if you don't like that rose-type flavour thenyou can always colour yours yellow and makeit lemon flavoured or just leave it plainvanilla buttercream.Spread a small amount of frosting onto a roundcake board and add your first cake.Brush that with simple syrup, now this justhelps keep the cake moist, I've added somemore rose water into this syrup too to intensifythat flavour.Spread on a layer of your buttercream, makingsure it is level then add your next cake ontop.Spread that with frosting as well, smoothingit out, and then add the bowl cake to oneside on the very top.Now take your Belle doll and wrap her hairin plastic wrap so that it doesn't get frostingin it, and then wash and dry the body of thedoll as well.Using a long knife cut straight down intothe cake, you want to put it slightly overto one side and make it a skinny rectangle, don't make it too big because it needs tofirmly hold the doll.Use a fork to take the cake out of the hole. And then push ... the doll.. down ... allthe way ... into the cake. Now what we want to do is shape the cake sothat it doesn't just sit straight down, wewant it to have a little bit of movement tothe dress. So we are going to make it so she's holdingit up on one side and we can see the layersof the dress underneath.Start by carving the curve of the bowl offand just angle it up towards the waist sothat it is not quite so rounded and it doesn'tlook like a bowl. Then follow that down at the front and downon the right hand side to make it smooth, down and out towards the base.Smooth it in the same way at the back, anglingit down towards the bottom cake. But don't cut it on the other side becausethat is where we are going to make her dresscome up to her hand and then flow back down.Use your knife to cut out an indent rightdown the middle of the dress, it doesn't needto be very deep just a little bit.And continue adding more of those, makingsure they are evenly spaced. There should be 6 indents altogether.Mash the cake offcuts to make a paste likeyou would if you were making cake pops. Then form some of that into a large ball andadd it to the side of the dress shaping itup towards her hand. Now mix the white chocolate ganache into yourfrosting mixing it through well.I like those colours mixing together there. And then cover the dress in frosting and youwant to refrigerate that for at least 30 minutes.Roll a rectangle of yellow fondant and wrapit around the cake smoothing it down and intothe folds of the dress.Trim off the excess at the bottom and usea piece of fondant to smooth down the dress.Squeeze it in at the waist and use a knifeto trim it off and then flatten it down sothat it makes a smooth line in towards herwaist rather than having a bumb there. Now use your fingers pull and shape the fondantup towards her hand so that it looks likeshe is holding the dress up.Now the amount that she is pulling the fabricup by, we need to trim that off the bottomof the skirt to reveal the underneath.Use a knife to trim roughly around the baseof the cake then come in closer and trim offthe last little bit.Take some white fondant and add it underneaththe yellow so that it covers the frostingand gives you something to join to.Then add some strips of white across, layeringthem up underneath like layers of the dress.Next make a small indent at the same levelon each crease. Then take a thin rectangle of yellow and foldit back and foward like and acordian.Pinch it at one end and gently stretch itthen add it into one of the indents.Let it flow down and around.Pinch it there to make it skinny and add itinto the next indent. So making sure you're leaving a little bitof 'slack' so that it loops down between eachone.Continue that the whole way around the dressthen add a gold sugar pearl into the joinof each one.For the body part of the dress, cut a pieceof fondant with a point down at the waistand another one going down at the top.Wrap it around her body to make the top ofthe dress. And then at the back you just want to cutit to size using a knife and cut it off atthe top to make it straight. And then just smooth those joins by gentlypressing on them with your thumb or your finger.Roll a snake of yellow and then use your littlefinger to roll it and make it skinnier inthe centre.Rub a little bit of water on the top of herdress and add the snake into place wrappingit around Belle's shoulders.Use your knife to make indents around thispiece so it looks like it has folds or ruffles. And then add a sugar pearl right into themiddle. To cover the cakeboard I'm using deep blueto go with the Beauty and The Beast coloursand to bring out the yellow of her dress. You can of course use whatever colour youlike, if you want a different colour go rightahead. And Belle is ready to dance. If you happen to have the Beast as well youcan add him to the cake too.And for those of you who are asking, Yes Iam filming this in my new kitchen. It's still not quite ready though, let meknow if you want me to do a kitchen tour whenit is ready. Thanks to Squarespace
