Welcome to another episode of Mighty Car Mods! It's an exciting day because my friend here has decided it is time to give 2SEXY a shakedown!
A shakedown, as explained by Martin and his friend Moog, is when you take your modified car out to a track or a figure 8 circuit to just figure out if it works. You can't really do this on the street properly, so they've chosen a proper race track at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The team has set up a figure-8 course within the larger circuit, and they're eager to put 2SEXY through its paces. Moog excitedly comments that "it's gonna be freaking awesome!" as they prepare for the shakedown. Martin reassures his friend that he'll get to ride shotgun in the car, which has been modified with stock seats.
The team is hoping to test out how the suspension and tires are working, as well as the mods that have been made to 2SEXY. They want to assess whether the car has truly become a proper track car, after its initial life as a show car. The car in question, a Lancer, was not always meant for racing. Instead, it started its life as a sick-spec show car, complete with bright-red vinyl interior, flashy chrome accents, and an outrageous body kit.
However, the Lancer's show car days were cut short after it suffered a crushing defeat by a Saab 900 Turbo. The team has since decided to put their modified car through its paces at the track, eager to see how well it performs. Martin remarks that they're "kinda want to figure out if it's shaken off its show-car origins" and whether it can truly be considered a fast car.
As the shakedown begins, the team is filled with excitement and anticipation. Moog enthusiastically comments on the track setup and the fact that 2SEXY gets to take part in a proper figure-8 course. Martin reassures his friend that he'll get to ride shotgun and experience the thrill of driving the modified car.
The stage is set for an action-packed shakedown session, as the team puts their car through its paces on the track. With the help of their friends at Sydney Motorsport Park, they're ready to put 2SEXY to the test and see just how well it can perform. The question remains, will 2SEXY live up to its promise and become a true racing machine?
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enIn this episode of Mighty Car Mods, it is the shakedown of 2SEXY!Welcome to another episode of Mighty Car Mods! It's an exciting day because my friend here has decided it is time to give 2SEXY a shakedown! What is a shakedown, Martin?Well a shakedown is when you take your mad car out to a track, or in our case a figure 8 circuit,MOOG: Yes?MARTIN: ... to just figure out if it works.MOOG: That's right. You...MARTIN: You can't really do on the street proper...MOOG: You figure-8 if it's gonna work!MARTIN: Figure it eight. Out.Um, pretty much. It's not really possible to do it on the street and you probably shouldn't really be doing that anyway, so we are out at a proper race track.MOOG (off-camera): And it's gonna be freaking awesome! We are at Sydney Motorsport Park.you got a race track over there, there's a skidpan over there, today they've very kindly lent us their figure-8.MOOG: So Martin, we're hoping to kind of work out how the suspension's working, the tires, the mods,MARTY: Yep.like just how it feels because last time the car's been driven in anger and pleasure was during wa-SAAB-i, where of course it lostso today it's about ascertaining what gains have been made, because we're probably about midway through the build, aren't we?MARTY: I'd say that, yeah. We kinda want to figure out if it's shaken off its show-car origins,MOOG: Yes.wiped it off, on the curtains, and it's come back as a proper track car, and to see if it's actually fast.On the curtains? Wow.Yeah, you get curtains because you use old curtains as rags and you .Ah, I see what you're saying. I thought you meant the crispy curtain.Ah, Martin, um, are you going solo or am I allowed to come for a ride too?You should come man, I stuck two stock seats in it so we can just both jump in and go.Alright man, let's do this, the shakedown of 2SEXY!BGM VOCALS: Too.... sexy! This Lancer was not always a bona fide race car, oh no it was not.It started its life as a sick-spec show car, complete with bright-red vinyl interior, festy chromies, and this ridiculous body kit. After a crushing defeat by a Saab 900 Turbo, we decided \"Let's not throw it in the bin. Let's just throw some of it in the bin.\"So we set about unmodifying it and getting all the fluid-stained sick-spec mods and literally taking them to the tin.BGM VOCALS: Put your hands up! Pull your pants down! From here, we upgraded the wheels, tires, added properly-set-up suspension, and did a disc brake upgrade for extra track stopping power. Now a side pipe has been added straight off the turbo, and we're ready to check out our weight reduction, tuning, and handling mods.We don't need helmets, because we're just going to be putting around, and we're not doing any timed laps. Not yet. What?Let's go, man!I'm excited.Oh, hear that side pipe!Dyno snake!Alright man, put him up there for good luck.MARTY: So, part of the reason we're on a trackSFX: <CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK>MARTY: is 'cause it's kinda hard to do this on a public road, and you shouldn't really be.MARTY: But it's just sorta to see what it feels likeSFX: <CLICK CLICK CLICK...CLICK>MARTY: and a good way to do that is kinda just cruise around.SFX: <CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK> (continues)MARTY: What was that noise?I dunno, man.SFX: <BUMP BUMP BUMP>But that's why we're here, to find these things out. We're just, starting to pick up speed. It's my seat.Is it?SFX: <CLUNK! CLUNK! CLUNK!>Yeah. It's not bolted in yet.Oh, ok, that's good.<LAUGHING>Just gonna slowly sort of pick up the speed.Man, the grip! It has a lot of grip, like that is insane! It is! I mean, little light front wheel drive cars, it doesn't understeer! That's amazing. That is MCA shocks, Bridgestone R003 Potenzas, and a whole lot of weight taken out - that is unbelievable! We're only doing like 50 km/h, but like I'm out of my seat already. And if I turn that really tight, look at that - no understeer! No understeer at all! That is incredible! That's the alignment too, I mean there's a lot of camber on the front wheels so when it leans over it's using the whole tire, like that's amazing. I'm out of my seat. It's actually hurting my arm, look at that.Woah, no understeer, none. We need two proper seats, yes. Two proper seats would be good. So, we're now at 65 and I'm shocked! I am absolutely shocked, and it doesn't feel unsafe, does it? Not at all. It won't even understeer at all, man.Let's try a full figure 8, man.Alright, let's go, do a lap. This is unbelievable, I'm shocked. Here we go, hard left. Oh, see you dyno-snake. Bye, snake.I'm actually running out of arm, and I've still got grip to go.Pretty cool man.It settles a little bit, too, which is good.Bit more speed. And stay away from the kitty litter, becuase it does reduce our grip.I'll swing it back to the left. I'm so shocked. This is a cool track, ay? Really cool, and it's quite difficult.Front wheel drive, man, it just pulls itself around.Whoah, it's so fast now! This is a proper fast car now! It's been on a diet, a massive diet. Aw man.You can hit 70 up around those top corners.Alright, here we go.Good one, 65. It's losing traction! In second gear, with proper tires! That's 70! That's 80!That is un-believable! It's actually balanced really nicely too, it's actually oversteering! A little bit, a little bit.But it's quite neutral, like a front end and back pushign at the same rate. It doesn't really want you to kill the brakes, and if I lift, I was going to talk about lift-off oversteer, where the back comes whipping around and it loses its grip.Like that, see, the back comes out? You're drifting front wheel drive now!Next time we go round, go for a proper one, prove to the people it's possible. Here we go, let's go through this bumpy bit.Let's go.So good.Yes! Well done! The handbrake doesn't do a great deal.It sorta brings it back around a little bit.Wow, man. You know I'm not giving up because of the car, I'm giving up because that hurts! It's so good. So I guess the next step is like, let's actually check out the braking. You see, we used to have no brakes. So maybe we can come back around the opposite way, and come down here and just do a brake test down this way.Do you remember how badly it pulled up in that challenge the first time?It just didn't. For a car that pulled so hard it didn't pull at all, did it? Not really. So I'll come back around the outside on the flat bit, do it at about 60 if I can. Ready?Yep.It stops now!Stops really well. There's no ABS or any kind of, you know, assistance, but it feels good.It does have ABS, automatic boot stopping. With your foot.Yeah.It sounds so good! That's not bad, ay?I'm so impressed. That's not bad!Considering how crap this was.And it's a show car.It was a show car.And a lot of that is tires, like a good set of tires man. They just keep gripping. It's really cool. Guess it's one of those things that's hard to expect to get power and get power down to the ground if you can't actually get any grip.Yeah, absolutely. That feels really good. Do you want a go?I would love a go. Can I?Is that to stay out of the cold? It's freezing out here. It's so cold! Now, last time I drove this was literally the go to work challenge. Yeah. And it was SLOW.I don't think it's disconnected, it's something inside the seat.So I haven't driven it then, so for me---you've driven it a couple of times since, but for me this is going to be a total transformation.Yeah. Listen to that side pipe, man.Holy shit! That is amazing. It's pretty good, ay?Just gonna get the feel for it, a couple laps.Oh, man. The grip is exceptional! It's awesome! It did not do this before, it just understeered.Straight up.It just not gripped at all.I can't believe how good it is.That's good, huh?I can't believe it, it feels great. We need better seats, man. Yeah, we need some grippy seats.I'm sorry I took your other one out, that would have really helped. It's alright.I think I can fix the back thing, or an evo seat. We could go proper.Unbelievable. It's fun, hey? It's amazing, this is like a little basic little LancerJust holding on at about 70 km/h. That's awesome! That is incredible.I love it. Power on, power on!Where's the handbrake?Woaaah!Oh, it works now! That's something. We had these wheels spinning up to 100 km/h.Oh, wow. Oh, shit!Woaaah!I think I'm going to have to take the keys off you now.2SEXY knows how to blow.Wow!That is amazing. That was exciting. Thanks, man. Think I need a moment, should we begin the battle now?The what? The battle.\n"
