16.1 for iPads now no you didn't miss iPad OS 16.0 that was never released Apple actually held it while they continue to work on things like stage manager but it is now finished it is now public it's available for download I'm gonna walk you through the biggest the newest features for iPad coming in this update there's a lot of stuff to love and I'm very excited to show it to you so let's go ahead and just dive into it here are the best new features in iPad OS 16 and 16.1 I'm going to start the list with Stage manager stage Manor is a new way to interact with your apps on iPad basically it's a rebuffed version of multitasking made for a tablet Apple allows you to make these different workspaces and move between them you can work with a few apps at a time Jump to a different workspace do some other stuff and just move things around it also works with external displays or at least it will with a coming update on a newer version of the iPad like the ones running the M1 chip but it has had a lot of problems getting to this point there are still issues resizing windows that just don't look quite right and others random things when you rotate the display around and apple even had to completely remove external display support before shipping this release well it continues to work on that so while stage Bender has a lot of really nice things going for it it still has a little ways to go but for me the reason I'm including in the best new features is because of that actual external display support where you can move stuff between two different displays at the same time and actually use two displays with iPad for me even with Stage managers issues it's worth it the next new feature I'm very excited to talk about is the shared iCloud photo library this will be coming to all of the platforms iPad OS iOS and Mac OS with this update and basically allows you to create a whole second library of photos that you can share with your loved ones you can set it up directly here inside of settings inside of the photos part then you can add some participants right now I'm going to add them later so you can copy all of your stuff over choose by people or by the date or you can manually choose the photos I'm going to choose some manually going to go to next it's going to ask me which photos I want to share I'm going to share some of me and my little kiddo that we just had like a week ago I'm going to add a couple of those to the library hit add and I can preview or I can Skip and again invite later now my shared photo library is set up you can also share it directly from the camera which is amazingly cool or you can keep it manually let's go ahead and hit share automatically inside of photos I can now go to the top right hand corner tap on those little dots and change my view from my regular library to my shared Library you can see both libraries personal or shared so here's my personal Library looking at it tap this again and go to my shared Library there's those photos that I just shared from my personal one and if we go up here we go into camera you can see we have this icon so now I'm shooting this is my regular library or it's have this and now I'm shooting to the shared library and I have an alert right there at the top of the screen take a photo go back to photos and I have just the one photo I took in my personal Library I have the other one I took so it's really easy to move between personal and shared libraries by the way photos will also suggest photos to add your your shared Library Basin or who in the photos where you took them or proximity to other people that you have in your contacts of course we also have to talk about messages messages was one of the biggest features in iOS and it was really annoying that it wasn't available yet on iPad but now it is with this update you're going to be able to edit a message that you've sent so you spelled a word wrong you can go back edit it and then it'll update on the other person system as well and you can view the history of those edited messages and within only a couple minutes you can delete a message that you sent as well so maybe you asked someone to get something and instead of having to you know send another message and say never mind just delete the message and it's gone and it never happened it's really neat so yeah the ability to edit and undo sending a required it is very cool and iPad OS iOS Mac OS tws homepod 16.1 all bring support for this new standard again that new redesigned home app also looks gorgeous makes it really easy to interact with your accessories tap them to control them or along hold on to them or tap the body of them to get in there and see additional details change colors or add automations all sorts of stuff you can filter your home view by what you're looking at along the top in those different pills so just pull up blocks or climb it anything like that it's really cool and I've really enjoyed using it on my iPhone since iOS 16 has launched what about weather weather Apple's app is now available on the iPad this is pretty clutch and I know there are a ton of weather apps on the App Store but here's why I think this is Sweet Apple purchased dark sky which has historically been like the number one weather app for iPhone and iPad and it's going to be shutting the app down so with dark sky going away people are going to be looking for other great weather apps and fortunately Apple has baked much of the dark sky features and functionality into its own weather app so Apple weather coming to iPad is essentially just a revamped version of dark sky available for the iPad so for me that's pretty great with iPad OS 16 Apple's giving you more space on your screen Apple has new display scaling options that make it easier to see what's going on decrease your size of your text change that display Zoom between multiple versions you do all this together and it can really help you customize what you're seeing on your display how large text is how large apps are it's really useful especially on larger screen iPads or when running apps in split screen mode so that pretty much covers it those are my favorite new features coming to iPad OS 16. there's still a lot more to love and most of what is in iOS 16 is also an iPad OS 16 16.1 so if you've seen it on your iPhone it's like we can be here on your iPad as well like the ability to do pluck subjects out of the photo and and drop it into a note or to a message that's here uh redesigned mail app with undo and revamped search and everything all that's here uh pass keys and Safari tab groups that's here there's a lot here on I've had OS 16.
