E3 2019 Recap: The Final Verdict is Not Yet In, But There's Always Next Year

There's always next year, and honestly at this point I'm not going to get my hopes up. Not going to get my hopes up, I thought, "I'll just take what I can get." You know, common sense would kick in and say, "Hey, the fans want a new Splinter Cell game. It's been years; let's just give them what they want." But now, Square Enix is finally okay.

So, first of all, I have to say that I did not watch a Square Enix conference. I was out that night, um, but from what I've seen, the Final Fantasy 7 remake looks incredible. It's coming out on March 3rd, 2020, and it's just going to be amazing. Final Fantasy 7 will always be my all-time favorite Final Fantasy game. Like it was incredible, incredible on PlayStation One, and to relive that experience with modern mechanics, yes, I'm totally okay with the new combat system. I just can't wait to play that; it's gonna be so much fun.

I have not seen anything on this yet, but I heard from a friend of mine that there is a Final Fantasy VIII remake, which I have not seen anything about. But I loved Final Fantasy 8, never finished it as a kid, but it contains some of my favorite music and cutscenes from any game ever. Like I will never forget that intro; such a cool intro. But then again, back then I was obsessed with CGI intros nowadays I kind of am too, but as a kid, like you have that nostalgia related to all these memories of gaming and you want to see those memories come back in modern formats, so that's why I'm excited about Final Fantasy 7 and 8.

So, I did watch the trailers for Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Doom Eternal, both games look incredible. I loved Wolfenstein II; the first new Wolfenstein was okay, but it thought it was kind of boring, wolfenstein 2 with the Nazis and the KKK and everything that game blew my mind because they pushed boundaries. They pushed boundaries, the fact that it has the Nazi symbol, that's a big deal, you can't change history, so why the hell would you censor history in a game all about stuff that really happened. Props to Bethesda for keeping it in the game at least on the Switch; I saw that's different but that might be a Nintendo thing trying to keep it family-friendly.

Thought I understood but from what I saw, it looks like the Nazi symbol is kept in the PC version, Xbox, such as the version section, and the PS4 version. So, thank you, props for that, no, that's not me being pro-Nazi or anything; just me being pro-history, pro-history, you can't change history, so why would you change it in gaming? Oh, you get me triggered.

And Doom Eternal looks incredible; I loved the first new Doom. Always have to say first, there's been like a million Doom games in history but the new Doom was so much fun and it looks like Doom Eternal just makes it even more fun. Guys, that's what there is my E3 2019 recap, I'm sure I missed something; it's a big show, I'm not guaranteed to catch everything but um those are definitely my biggest highlights, my favorite things that I saw throughout the conferences that I had time to watch.

Very, very close second despite all the hate around Microsoft, I think Xbox did a great job; they showed a lot of stuff, gave us a glimpse of the future, did some incredible things with Game Pass Ultimate; I can express enough how good of a deal that is.

promise you that this summer right geek updates aren't going anywhere anytime soon but the thing is i don't want to record just a record i only want to record a geek update when there's something truly passionate to talk about so in other words i want it to be good and today man today i have a lot to say guys so all the important press conferences have officially wrapped up yes of course e3 goes all week but all the important stuff has been announced and of course i might miss some things here and there so please don't get too angry in the comments but with that said i did make an entire list of things i want to talk about today so today's geek update is all about e3 2019 and my personal recap my personal thoughts so let's jump right into it starting out with microsoft i got to say this right off the bat guys i've seen a lot of hate around microsoft saying oh microsoft's presentation sucked they didn't really show much i thought they showed a lot i mean i thought they showed a lot i mean at least they showed up sony come on come on anyway here we go jumping into microsoft project scarlett now we all knew that microsoft's been working on the xbox for a couple years now right that's no secret that's pretty much common sense i mean nintendo is working on a new switch right now i guarantee you as i speak they're working on a new switch yeah i mean this kind of hardware change requires a lot of development a lot of research and all that stuff so it's just really nice to have official word for microsoft themselves saying that hey we're working on the next xbox right now we're calling it project scarlett personally i like the name xbox next i've always liked that name so i'm hoping they go with that name but if they don't who cares it's just a name anyway project scarlet is confirmed to be released holiday 2020. i kind of called that one but again it's common sense it's really not that hard to predict these things um so yeah holiday 2020 we will have the new xbox and microsoft made it very clear that this is a game focused console as it should be because they've gone through so much bs with the xbox one you know as a set top box some people called it for like media playback and cable tv and all that stuff mixed in with the game console i thought it was a very unique approach more unique than the playstation 4 in my opinion but obviously it didn't work out in their favor they kill the connect so it's pretty cool to see microsoft is back on track and they know what they're doing they're kind of like apple in the mac pro they admit they messed up and they're going back to the roots hey all these multi-billion dollar companies they mess up at some point they're run by humans like you and myself so it's gonna happen but um yeah the xbox is back and microsoft also made it very clear that one of the main goals with project scarlett i don't know what they mean by this but it excites me most games are targeted to run at 120 frames per second now before we get ahead of ourselves don't expect 4k gameplay at 120fps it's just not gonna happen i mean it's not even that common on pc gaming so i can't imagine it being that common on a console but i will say this 120 frames per second 1080p that's enough for me i'm totally down for that also it's worth noting that microsoft did say that the next xbox will be four times as powerful as the xbox one x and guys let's face it the xbox one x is already pretty freaking powerful so to have that kind of experience times four plus whatever us microsoft hasn't told us yet it's gonna be huge however with that said let's not get too excited let's not get too positive let's not get too negative we always have next year's e3 hence why we didn't see too much about project scarlet and i don't blame them we still have a long way to go okay so hello infinite um they did mention that it's going to be a launch title for project scarlet but i don't know if they mentioned it's going to be an exclusive i can't imagine it being exclusive because that's literally missing out on millions upon millions of sales but at the same time making it a project scarlet exclusive launch title sells consoles so if i worked for microsoft i'd be like look let's make this a scarlet exclusive it might be a stab in the heart to millions of players around the world but in my opinion it's a smart move it's a smart risk i mean if you want people to buy your console you're gonna have to have some kind of big aaa exclusive title and welcome on what better exclusive title to include alongside a major system launch than halo halo is a huge brand so um we didn't really see any real gameplay we just saw a cutscene with master chief in space or whatever it looked cool it gave me chills when his shield came up and just the music and the visuals looked great but um yeah like the scarlet let's not get ahead of ourselves we still have a long time to wait sorry that's just the way this world works cyberpunk 2077. gotta be honest i didn't really look into cyberpunk too much before e3 2019 but it's always been that game in the back of my head where i'm like why is everyone so excited about this game well i saw the trailer and i gotta say i'm pretty hyped now i'm pretty hyped now with that said i'm gonna go with the pc version because well pc is always gonna look best so yeah i'm officially on the hype train cyberpunk 2077 is coming out in march and i will be there fantasy star online too dear lord gotta take a drink for this one guys all right fetishes are online was and will always be one of my favorite games ever i fell in love with it on dreamcast for several reasons the biggest one being you know besides that it was damn fun is the fact that it was my first mmo yeah spanish dessert online was my first mmo and yeah i realized you can't even compare it to the grand scale of games like world of warcraft oh this girl is online i'm getting e3 alerts on twitch and all that stuff but as a younger david you know early 2000s it was a big deal and i got to be honest i thought fantasy star online 2 was a brand new title but at the same time i'm like i thought i saw this before because i've searched it before and apparently it's only been available in japan so correct me if i'm wrong fantasists are online too for the first time ever is coming over to america so to us it's a new game and it's free to play xbox and pc i believe are cross play maybe ps4 i'm not sure i just know i'll be getting on a pc obviously so if finishes are on line two can bring back the love that i had for the fan for the first venice star online count me in seriously i wanted to cry when i saw that sherlocks i wasn't sure if it was pso at first um but then i heard the music like the theme was modified but i heard it and i'm like that's fantastic online so i'm hyped anyway let's speed this up guys this is gonna be a long video gears of war five look they're just saying we didn't get any real gameplay like there but they showed it after the fact and from what i can tell it looks cool i'm not a gears fanboy i mean i've played all the gears games at least i think most of them and i've enjoyed them but i don't enjoy gears of war like i enjoy halo so i mean i'll get gears 5 on day one especially with game pass i believe you get it early morning that in a bit so yeah excited to play that xbox elite controller series 2 so this timing is amazing i was seriously considering buying an xbox elite controller or controller elite whatever they call it last week and i'm glad i waited just days later at e3 microsoft announces series two you know it's refined better control more customization all that stuff so yes i will be buying an elite too at some point not right now because i'm spending all my money on my streaming pc also you might be wondering what david why why do you need an elite controller for mostly pc gamer why not i mean it's always good to have a controller as a backup for games like gta which in my opinion is terrible mouse and keyboard at least the keyboard portion is terrible unpopular opinion i know gta and pc overrated it's fun but it's overrated i'm just gonna say that that game belongs on console and man that's gonna get a lot of hate but you know what i don't care it's my opinion anyway for racing games and platformers you should always go with controller keyboard or mouse i mean it's obviously a lot better for shooters mmos rts's and whatever okay ori ii this game was confirmed last year to be released in 2019 and 2020. yeah 2020. freaking 2020. ori is one of the best games i've ever played at least one of the best platformers like the side scrolling platformers beautiful music beautiful visuals great story easy to follow sorry likable characters i mean actually a little choked up in the game which is a big deal i mean it takes a lot for a video game to make me feel you know emotional um so i cannot wait until early or two but unfortunately it's coming out 20 20 now so i guess i have to wait minecraft dungeons i'm not like a minecraft fanboy but i've played my fair share of minecraft and loved it um so minecraft dungeons looks like it's minecraft meet diablo kind of rpg style gameplay and well you know what i'm totally down for it it actually looks like a lot of fun and i believe it's cross play before before between pc and console which is really cool okay continuing psychonauts 2. got to be honest i've never played the first psychonauts but it's always the game i've heard from people say oh psychonauts is amazing psychonauts is a great game question for you is it really that good i'm not hating i've seriously never played psychonauts so i'm curious is the first one still worth playing because i want to get ready for psychonauts too i mean people are acting like it's a big deal so i guess it is a big deal um and i am curious about the first one i'm sure i can get it for really cheap right it came out years ago correct me if i'm wrong but i believe it was an xbox title right original xbox maybe yeah i'm not a psychonauts fan but i'm definitely curious so let me know i appreciate it blair witch all right this is a trailer which really grabbed my attention because one i love dark horror games and two i love dark horror games and they showed towards the end of the trailer this person standing in a dark room staring at the corner and i'm like that looks like the blair witch movie and then where do you know the whole blair witch symbol that signal symbol comes up and it says blair witch i'm like dude i called it so blair witch definitely looks really cool of course we didn't get that much gameplay but if blair witch i mean is anything what it seems like in the trailer count me in because i love horror games especially when you stream them on twitch just makes it even better to get jump scares on camera and finally last but not least from microsoft and i just signed up for this last night for a dollar game pass ultimate so this i think was a show stealer for microsoft i mean if xbox is ahead of the competition in any way it's game pass okay so backing up for a bit if you don't know what game pass is think like netflix but for gamers so basically you pay a monthly fee and you get access to literally over 100 titles now granted they're not always the newest titles but a lot of them are for instance you get day one access to new releases from microsoft um you know powered games or whatever like forza forza was available for day one and because i'm a game pass member i feel like i got the game for free that's a great deal i mean why pay 60 for a brand new game if you can pay 10 monthly for that game on top of hundreds of other games and guys as a twitch streamer this is a big deal i mean if you stream on twitch you know exactly what i'm talking about you're always looking for something new games like siege and blackout might get old after a while so why not dig deep into that game pass library and find something new or old to play i mean for ten dollars a month it's a steal but with game pass ultimate it's 15 so basically you get game pass for xbox game pass for pc which is a bigger deal for me nowadays and you get your xbox live membership for 15 a month that's a steal i believe i pay more than that now for netflix now granted i use netflix obsessively i use netflix every single day i can't imagine my life without it so obviously it's worth whatever i pay i forget now they were always raising the price anyway as you can see i'm getting quite passionate game pass ultimate as a twitch streamer as a content creator who's always looking for new games to stream and just play in general gamepad's ultimate is a steal and also don't forget you'll be getting games like gears 5 early as a game pass subscriber that's a big deal you actually get one of this year's biggest games early just for paying that fee so i'm going to say it again if xbox is ahead of the competition in any way it's game pass it's an absolute steal and as a pc gamer or xbox gamer you need to check it out the first month right now is one dollar i mean why why wouldn't you sign up for a dollar a coffee cost more than that okay so overall i thought microsoft's showing was solid i mean nothing blew my mind but i definitely had a few nice surprises um especially the sequel to fantasy star online that just stole the show from me besides game pass ultimate but man finishes are online i am there on day one i'm gonna grind it so hard all right so nintendo they didn't show a ton of games that blew my mind but they definitely had a handful of titles um you know that i'll be buying on day one number one soak up your chairs david soak up your tears animal crossing new horizons it's official this is the game okay animal crossing is like one of those games where it really gets to me it really gets to me in a good way of course like i love animal crossing overall it's just a feel good experience going fishing collecting your fruit going to your friends towns getting their fruit selling it for profit digging up fossils building up the museum collection and building your house decorating your house upgrading tom nook shop going wherever like it's the ultimate chill game like if you have never played animal crossing please do yourself a favor and pick up an older animal crossing for cheap item crossing city folks amazing wild world is good and arguably new leaf is the best one in the series because they did a lot of good stuff with this series david you gotta slow down when you talk i just get passionate guys like i love animal crossing so new horizons visually looks incredible they've introduced some new things like vaulting over water which is crazy good so if you don't play animal crossing you don't know what that really means to us animal crossing players let's just say it's a big deal it's a huge huge time saver um the only thing that crushed my little heart 20 20. nintendo last year basically said hey look animal crosston is coming out in 2019 i was like yay they didn't show any gameplay so i was like okay i'll wait then i was really anxious for yesterday and they showed it they ended it with a date and i nearly cried on stream 2020 march 2020 you're building your city new horizons 2020 i mean come on let's face it we have so much to play throughout 2019 anyway so it's whatever and honestly a game as big as and and as important to me as animal crossing i want nintendo to take their time and they actually repeated themselves quite a bit during the treehouse stream which was a lot of fun to watch by the way i mean they seemed apologetic i mean they seemed like they genuinely were sorry to delay one of their biggest releases of 2019 into 2020 so that's i respect i can wait and it's gonna be worth it that's gonna be so much fun to stream brother the wild sequel i don't think anybody saw this coming like i love breath of the wild i'm not some zelda fanboy but i gotta say breath of the wild is by far the most fun i've ever had with a zelda game mainly because it's open world the music was incredible the combat was legit a lot of fun and i like the fact that you didn't have to go through a linear story just to get to the final boss now of course i did do all the bosses before the final boss but the fact that you can go to the final boss before doing anything before that that's really cool that's really cool i don't i don't recommend that because you're going to get your ass kicked but it's just really neat that nintendo actually allowed you to do that like that's truly an open world experience and i wish other games would allow you to do that so hopefully they can kind of like set the bar for open world adventures in the future all right so that looks really cool luigi's mansion three this looks great i loved the first one at gamekeep unfortunately i never got around to playing luigi's mansion two was that on 3ds it probably was because i'm not a big 3ds gamer because it's mobile i'm just not a big mobile gamer i would much rather sit down in a chair like this or my couch or whatever and just enjoy a game yeah i realize you can do this on a couch or in this chair that's not what i'm saying i mean i want like a better experience visually you know a tv monitor whatever and audibly a nice headset nice surround sound all that good stuff serious stupid sirius talking about the background i mean good job good job she did something for tv anyway luigi's mansion 3 looks really good and looks really really good the new slam mechanic looks very satisfying and it has online co-op online co-op is a big deal guys so i will definitely be doing that on twitch uh links awakening never played link's awakening as a kid please don't hate please don't hang i can't play every game i say that for a reason because link's awakening as far as i can tell from other gamers is one of the best zeldas to date just never got around to playing it as a kid i don't know so i'm happy to say link's awakening is coming to the switch which apparently we heard about a while ago but i forgot about it because again i'm not a zelda fanboy i don't really think about zelda too much but um lake's awakening looks really good like it actually looks really good and i'm quite excited to play it so that will definitely be a day one purchase for me and finally pokemon sword and shield not a big pokemon fan i know i'm probably like murdering so many people today just i'm more of a like a mario donkey kong kind of gamer um but pokemon sword and shield i didn't look into it too much but as far as i understand it's a core style pokemon game on the switch not the 3ds for once thank god um so that's definitely a game that i will be buying on day one and i think it comes out this year right like very very soon so i will be playing that on twitch ubisoft let's talk about you real quick your conference sucked it was pretty bad like it was it was it was pretty bad guys watchdogs legion looks amazing like it actually looks really good the fact that you can take control of pretty much any character in the game it literally takes the n out of npc you know non-playable character so now it's a bunch of pcs politically corrects not really that's a stupid joke that doesn't even apply but seriously watchdogs legion looks incredible i loved the first watchdogs one and two especially two two was really cool i just loved the whole hipster vibe and the presentation it was really really fun to play so watchdog's legion looks even better and rainbow six quarantine i love siege like i'm a huge fan of siege but i have zero interest in rainbow six quarantine yeah i might play it because i'm a siege person but aside from that quarantine it just doesn't interest me at all three player co-op doesn't get more boring than that but then again i've never been a zombies fan in siege or call of duty for that matter or anything i'm like i'm not i'm not a big zombie gamer like horde like hordes of enemies coming at me i just find it to be kind of boring unless done right unless done right but uh yeah rainbow six quarantine does nothing for me sorry and to wrap up this super long ubisoft segment sarcasm we did not even see a hint of a new splinter cell ubisoft what are you doing what are you doing like you spend 10 minutes of these fools dancing on stage to just dance which i can understand as a seller people love just dance so i'm not gonna hate i'm an open-minded person i'm not gonna hate just because the game's not for me doesn't mean it sucks it's just not for me but come on dudes and dudettes what the hell where is the new splinter cell it's been years i just want not only a new splinter cell campaign but especially a new spies versus mercs spies vs mercs is the most fun i ever had on the first xbox the new one on 360 was okay in my opinion it was like a watered down spies verse marks pandora tomorrow and chaos theory especially chaos theory seriously some of the most fun i've ever had in gaming ever ever spies verse marks is that good it takes everything i love about stealth takes everything i love about action and cctv cameras that's hence why i love siege so much siege is kind of like spice versus marks but i want a true spies versus mercs game we're just new splinter cell in general and we got nothing absolutely nothing and i said this last year i was like all right well there's always next year so i'll say it again there's always next year but
