The Coolermaster Mouse Mat Debacle: A Day to Forget
As I began setting up my new audio workstation, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. But little did I know that my day was about to take a surprising turn. As I reached for the Coolermaster mouse mat, I noticed that it wasn't actually from Coolermaster at all. Instead, it bore the same logo as another brand altogether. I couldn't believe my eyes - who would do such a thing? It seemed like a prank gone wrong, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all.
Despite this mishap, the mouse mat did seem to be of decent quality, and its functionality was surprisingly good. I wasn't too disappointed with it, considering I had no expectations in the first place. However, I couldn't shake off the feeling that this little incident had ruined my otherwise promising day. As I moved on to the next part of my setup, I tried to put this aside and focus on what really mattered - creating high-quality audio content.
On the right side of my desk, I placed a microphone arm from Road, which was a boom arm in design. This allowed me to keep the microphone off the desk itself and created some excellent cable routing options. The flexibility of the arm was impressive, and I was able to easily position my Scarlett m25 microphone wherever I wanted it to be. It's worth noting that this microphone is one of my favorites, and I've used it in numerous PC build videos linked to this playlist.
Unfortunately, the microphone itself doesn't sell as an individual standalone product; instead, you have to buy a bundle with the Scarlett 2i2 preamp and pair of headphones. While this might seem like a drawback, the bundle is actually quite fantastic, and I'm glad I got it. The Scarlett 2i2 preamp is what converts the XLR signal from the microphone into an analog signal that my computer can understand, allowing for excellent audio quality.
Speaking of which, the pair of headphones I used with this setup are another important piece of the puzzle. They're not exactly the most affordable option, but they deliver exceptional sound quality and are incredibly comfortable to wear. The surround sound is incredible, and the battery life is remarkably good. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with these headphones and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a reliable pair.
As I continued setting up my desk, I noticed that it included two useful accessories - an aluminium USB hub from Okey and a five-port multi-USB charger from Angkot. These were both super convenient and super duper useful additions to my setup. They allowed me to keep all my cables organized and charged at the same time.
Moving on to the audio equipment itself, I was using two systems - one for archiving footage and another for editing. The first system consisted of a server with 16 terabytes of hard drive storage (or 810, giving me 8 terabytes of usable space). I also had some second-hand networking gear from eBay that gave me a super fast link to the archive. My main editing rig, on the other hand, was an Intel Core i7 1700 system with 64 gigs of DDR and a GTX 1060, which handled Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects beautifully.
That's a wrap for my 2018 setup, folks! While it may not be as flashy or high-end as some of the setups I've seen on YouTube, it gets the job done. And hey, sometimes minimalism can be just what you need to stay productive without breaking the bank. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat is up guys welcome back to another geek walk video today is my 2018 gaming and set up tour this setup has been adapted it's evolved at the best suit my needs and to be as efficient and as a comfortable place as possible to sit so they'll take you over everything I chose and why let's do this snazzy intro aside any setup for me starts off with cherries where you said you're going to be properly supported for five hours it's our gaming or editing sessions GT Omega truly are my the only chair that I will sit in they're absolutely superb so so comfortable and have so much adjustment you can practically fall asleep on these things I'll actually link these and all the other products mentioned today in the description below and you can actually get five percent off with GT Omega using coded geek app if you like to pick one up I reviewed many of their chairs in the past and I've had very good things to say about pretty much all of them nice design uncomfortable to sit on it's a win-win next up is of course the monitors I chose I went for 223 inch algae freezing panels now there's a couple of reasons for this 23 inch is nice and small and having two of them is just a bit more preferred in my opinion than an ultra-wide as it allows better multitasking in Windows with two separate displays these two screens are both IPS which means the colors are super vibrant but also super accurate which is arguably much more important than resolution when creating content if the colors look good on a reference display they're gonna look good on a 40 inch TV or your smartphone and that's the issues that I had with my previous monitors these are also free sync as well as I mentioned over HDMI and the super thin bezels look really really nice I've got both of the monitors floating off the desk if you will using joannec and monitor arms which gives me more desk real estate for schoolwork or a laptop and peripherals all that good stuff talking of peripherals I've got a bit of a weird setup going on one that's changed quite a lot and just continue to change the keyboard work for was cooler masters MK 750 is that flagship keyboard has a number pad full RGB control a very comfortable wrist rest and great RGB implementation I reviewed it and you can find that video in the card section yeah for the mouse in this set of us also another cooler master unit it's got a pinky support as well which I found so so nice and the scroll wheel has quite a weird but really unique texture it's there mm 215 it is it a cheap Mouse by any stretch of the imagination but the clicks super satisfying and it seems built really quite nicely and in the mouth I would definitely recommend that he's a bit of a better all-round that is creative siege I've been so impressed with this mouse and actually you reviewed this mouse I believe if I remember rightly which you can go and check out on the channel it's really comfortable and the RGB implementation on that it's a bit more preferred in my opinion I've also got an RGB Mouse map from coolermaster which looks really nice and it's super simple to control with these sort of finger print button if you will on the top of the unit now one thing to bear in mind with this if you want to buy an RGB mouse mat like this don't buy this corner master one it's essentially just a Chinese off-the-shelf mouse mat from like Alibaba or wherever you want to go there's just been rebranded with the Coolermaster logo it's not actually a Coolermaster product at all a day to have done the same with one of their new mouse mats it's a bit disappointing but it looks good and it kind of functions well so I can't really blame them for it too much moving to the right-hand side of the setup you first have been microphone arm which is from Road it's a boom arm once again keeping the microphone off the desk itself and also allowing for some good cable routing options it's super flexible and allows me to easily position my Scarlets the m25 microphone wherever I want it the microphone does have a clip on a pop filter as well as well as a shock mount to give the best possible audio quality and that microphone is superb it's the one you hear in all of my pc build videos which are linked to the playlist for here and it's just absolutely fantastic one real shame about this microphone is that they don't actually sell it as an individual standalone product instead you have to get a bundle which also includes scarlett 2i2 preamp and I really kind of surely pair of headphones that being said the bundle is absolutely fantastic and the scarlett 2i2 preamp is what i currently used to convert the XLR signal from the microphone to one that can be understood by the computer ie analog to digital it also allows very good audio preamp as well to build a pair of headphones into and allows you to plug in like a guitar or a piano or microphone for loads of different recording purposes the other two pieces of the audio puzzle in the setup are of course the speakers and the headphone / headset in terms of the speakers I've got a pair of creatives t30 Wireless which to be honest with you aren't that great they sound quite good and they're pretty loud but they're pretty expensive for what they are and they're not they just emphasize the bass way too much there - bass heavy not really any mids and the treble can just be way overdone at times there are nice pair of speakers and the music does sound good on them but interlaken or justified dropping some serious cash on some studio monitors such as the JBL alice are three of fires of yamaha HS fives these shall have to do in the headphone / headset department i've actually been using a brand new pair of Plantronics dolby atmos compatible headphones / headset and i've been really really impressed I've got it sitting on this super cheap headphone stand and I can't emphasize just how good these things are they're so comfortable they're great for long gaming sessions the surround sounds incredible the battery life is really really good and it actually has both a some mix at under volume control on the left ear cut for on the flight adjustment are we doing for view of these very students and make sure you're subscribed for that one overall very very impressed indeed a couple of other notable things on the desk included for poor aluminium USB hub from okey as well as a five port multi USB charger from angkot which are both very very convenient and super duper useful finally though what systems are my rocking in this setup to repower things up and make things work as well as they do I actually have two systems the first of which is a server that I did a video on not too long ago he's got 16 terabytes of hard drive storage every single piece of footage sorry that I shoot goes on that with video projects that I can go back and take a look at later for my main editing rig until recently I was using an i7 8700 k system with a 1080 TI inside cool masters H 500 P case I did a full video series of build guide on that which you can check out in each card section here although recently arrived is back to my rising 7 1700 system which I also bet on the channel 64 gigs of DDR for 1 terabyte of SSD storage and a GTX 1060 do the job nicely for editing in Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects but I think that just about wraps it for everything in my 2018 setup it isn't quite as brass and glamorous as some of the other setups Ian might have seen on YouTube with 4k triple monitors and dual 1080 T eyes but I just haven't quite got the budget for that scope of a set up just yet and I want to keep things somewhat minimal but not unproductive if that makes sense if you enjoyed today's video smash that like button
