Why Iā€™m NOT Reviewing the S21 Ultra!

**The Evolution of Smartphones: A Comparative Analysis of Samsung's S21 Ultra and Zed Fold 2**

As we continue to witness the rapid evolution of smartphones, it's essential to analyze and compare the latest models. In this article, we'll delve into the world of foldable smartphones, specifically focusing on Samsung's S21 Ultra and Zed Fold 2. Daniel, a tech enthusiast, shares his insights and experiences with these devices, providing valuable information for potential buyers.

**The Powerhouse: Samsung S21 Ultra**

When it comes to power, the Samsung S21 Ultra is undoubtedly the king of Android smartphones. With up to 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, this device can handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. Daniel notes that he was able to play demanding mobile games like Call of Duty Mobile at high resolutions and frame rates without any issues, thanks to the S21 Ultra's Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.

However, Daniel also highlights one significant drawback: the lack of a microSD card slot. With only 128GB of internal storage available on the base model, users are limited in terms of expandable storage options. This is a notable concern for those who rely heavily on their phone's storage capacity.

**The Unconventional Choice: Zed Fold 2**

Enter the Zed Fold 2, which may seem like an unusual choice compared to the S21 Ultra. With its smaller 4,500mAh battery and last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor, one might expect it to lag behind in terms of performance. However, Daniel's experience with the device reveals a more nuanced reality.

The Zed Fold 2's power efficiency is indeed higher than expected, thanks to its external display panel which consumes less power. Additionally, the fact that this device has an external display means users can utilize it more effectively when on-the-go. This display isn't just smaller and lower-resolution; it's also a 60Hz panel, further contributing to its power efficiency.

Daniel explains that these design choices have led to longer battery life for the Zed Fold 2. He notes that his device can easily last him a day and a half, whereas the S21 Ultra was only able to make it through most of the day.

**The Future of Smartphones: Foldable Devices**

The emergence of foldable smartphones has revolutionized the industry. These devices offer a unique blend of functionality, portability, and display real estate. As Daniel points out, having multiple form factors available can cater to different use cases and user preferences.

Daniel draws an analogy between the foldable smartphone market and the netbook era. Just as the iPad disrupted the netbook market with its innovative design, Samsung's S21 Ultra may not be the most powerful device in terms of raw power, but it sets a new standard for traditional smartphones. Similarly, Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone will undoubtedly create a demand for similar devices.

In conclusion, Daniel's insights highlight the complexities and nuances of both the Samsung S21 Ultra and Zed Fold 2. While the former may excel in terms of performance, the latter offers unique advantages in design and power efficiency. As we move forward into the future of smartphones, one thing is certain: foldable devices will play a significant role in shaping the industry.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eni've probably gone back and forward on reviewing the s21 ultra at least five times now and in the end i came to the conclusion that i will not be reviewing this phone not because it's bad but because it is so good that it's actually boring you see the s21 ultra is what i would really call the perfect phone it literally takes every single box that i would want in a phone except for one which is the fun factor after having used foldable phones for the past year now i strongly believe that they are the future and while the s21 ultra is the best phone that there is it is still just a traditional smartphone that will slowly be forgotten in the face of the upcoming era of foldables so without any further ado this is not a full review but rather a few reasons why the s21 ultra is by far the best phone that you can buy right now while also being one of the most boring ones unfortunately okay so with the s21 ultra samsung has not only fixed the issues of the s20 ultra which you can check in this video right here but pretty much reach the highest level of where traditional smartphones can be at for example the s21 ultra has my favorite smartphone design by far at least from the back this matte black monolithic look which looks absolutely incredible kinda reminds me of the xbox series x for some reason maybe because they're both a matte black monolith also i'm pretty sure that this is the phone that agent 47 would use the massive camera module on the back shows everyone that you have a camera with a phone strapped to it rather than the other way around this phone screams pro more than any other phone that has pro in its name or maybe not when compared to the xperia pro but come on no one should really buy that phone anyway while the back looks stunning i can't really say the same about the front the note 20 ultra to me at least looks far better mostly because of those squared off corners however the reason why i find the s21 ultra boring is because well it is just a traditional smartphone whereas phones such as the galaxy zed flip or the galaxy zed fall 2 there's smartphones that give you more the zed flip gives you this super cute square when folded which fits pretty much anywhere and then unfolds into a regular smartphone while the zedfold 2 is a standard smartphone when folded which then unfolds into a tablet the s21 ultra has none of this it is just your traditional smartphone and even though it has better specs than both the zflip and the zedfolds i promise you that if you were to use any of the foldables for just a few days you wouldn't be able to go back to regular smartphones when it comes to the display same thing here the s21 ultra has by far the best display that you can find on a smartphone it is a 6.8 inch 3200 by 1440 resolution panel with a 120 hertz refresh rate at native resolution this time and 1500 nits of peak brightness that just destroys something like an iphone 12 pro max display which only adds a 60hz refresh rate it is smaller lower resolution and with the lower 1200 minutes of brightness but you know what destroys the estonian ultra's display well the zedfold twos display which is not only bigger but it also folds making it easier to put in your pocket oh and it too has a super high resolution alongside a 120 hertz refresh rate it is again one of those things where the s21 ultra is the best in its category but not the best in terms of smartphones overall not only that but phones such as the galaxies that flip and the galaxy's deadfall 2 they have something called flex mode where the hinge can actually keep the display open at an angle and then the apps themselves will adjust the content for this dual screen view super useful in apps such as youtube where you get to see the video on the top and then the comments on the bottom or in the calculator app and a bunch more first party apps the zed flip also has a tiny display on the outside for viewing the time and your notifications which is actually separate from the always-on display which is also present all of these make the s21 ultra look so boring in comparison or should i say so classic because in a way this one reminds me of the ipod classic when compared to the ipod touch the ipod touch was more innovative it had more features it was you know more flexible uh and more usable being a touchscreen but then the ipod classic had more storage just like this one has in some ways better specs a better camera than folding phones but folding phones give you so many more options but luckily there is one thing that yes 20 on ultra has that none of the foldables do and that is a super impressive camera we've recently done a very detailed camera comparison where we put the s21 ultra against the iphone 12 pro max the pixel 5 as well as the s20 ultra from last year and tested 35 different scenarios the s21 ultra ended up being my personal choice as not only did it have very good photos all around but it also had some outstanding unique features such as 10x optical zoom when compared to 4x on the s20 ultra or 2.5x on the iphone 12 pro max it also had a macro mode which worked surprisingly well alongside a super high resolution 108 megapixel sensor which allows you to crop into your photos a lot we also have a second zoom lens at 3x which is perfect for portrait mode shots on top of the pretty nuts 8k video recording capability of this phone these are things that foldable phones do not have at least not yet mostly because the camera module like on the s21 ultra takes up a lot of internal space and we're already pretty limited with internal space on foldables not even to mention that the whole idea of holdables is for them to be as thin as possible so that when you do fold them the thickness is still quite manageable like if i could pick one feature from the s21 ultra that i would like to have in the zedfold 3 that will definitely be this camera and even then i'm not saying that the camera on the zedfall 2 is bad by any means as it's actually using the same main sensor as on the standard s21 and the s21 plus as well meaning that while you don't get that massive 108 megapixel resolution the sensor itself is actually very good in low light as the pixels are bigger it's just that you're missing out on that crazy 10x optical zoom in favor of a more traditional 2x and you're also missing out on macro mode but other than that you still get a very good camera with foldables in fact you could argue that there is a very unique feature that foldables have camera wise that traditional smartphones will never be able to get so remember that flex mode well you can actually use that for taking photos too and what's really cool about that is that it essentially acts as a tripod meaning that you can get some incredible low light photos which you couldn't do with the s21 ultra at least not unless you had an actual tripod or some sort of improvised stand and there are plenty of other cool things that you can do with the zetfold too like you can use the back cameras as front cameras and take some super high quality selfies that way if you want the possibilities are almost endless and my point here is that yes the s29 ultra has a very good quality but then the zed fall 2 is way more practical and once we get the quality of the s21 ultra's camera inside the zedfold 2 well there will be zero reasons to get a non-folding phone over a folding one aside from the price of course now performance wise the s29 ultra is great i actually haven't had any issues with mine even though i do have the accents model here in the uk and i cannot say the same about the s20 ultra from last year which has gotten quite hot on a few occasions same for the note 20 ultra both accents models of course but what's really good about the foldable ones that zedfold 2 and the z-flip is that they only come in one cpu configuration and that's not an exodus but a qualcomm processor instead and with a snapdragon 865 plus that's inside of zedford2 for example i was able to play some very demanding mobile games like call of duty mobile at the highest possible resolution and frame rates and have zero issues with it i've also never had the zed for 2 lag on me in the 5 months that i've been using it for so absolutely superb performance my point here is that while yes the s21 ultra is the most powerful android phone on the market especially if you go for the 5 12 gigabytes of storage 16 gigabytes of ram model the zed fall 2 which comes with last year's snapdragon 865 plus processor and 12 gigabytes of ram is already insanely fast although i gotta say that i am quite happy that samsung has resolved most of their issues on the excellence model of the s21 ultra as it's now much closer to the qualcomm model than ever before i think the only problem performance wise if you could call it is the fact that there is no microsd card slot so you have to rely on that internal storage and the base model only comes with 128 which i mean for a phone that cost this much i think that's just not great now when it comes to battery life this is where it gets super interesting so although the s21 ultra comes with the larger 5 000 ml power battery compared to the zed fall 2's 4 500 million power the zed fall 2 actually lasted me for longer like my zetfold 2 can easily last me for a day and a half whereas my s21 ultra was pretty much a day of use for me but wait daniel how is that even possible like you know we have a much larger 7.6 inch display on the zetfold 2 and the smaller battery how come it actually lasts longer well the main reason is that the qualcomm processor inside is a bit more power efficient but the main reason is actually the fact that since we also have an external display on the zedfold 2 i did end up using that a lot when i was on the go also that display isn't only much smaller than the s20 on ultras but it is also just a 60hz panel which means that it consumes less power my point here is that zedfold 2 gives you options every single option for every single use case and that is what makes it so good so in the end our regular smartphones dead well not entirely dead but i do think that there is just so much that you can do with a slab of glass this sort of reminds me of the netbook era if you guys remember that and how when the ipad launched in 2010 there were many netbooks on the market that were more powerful than the ipad was but this whole new concept of just having the screen and packing all the tech all the components inside of that and also into the thinnest possible form factor that idea changed the entire industry for the better and you know for example how the iphone in 2007 was so different when compared to the traditional smartphones and that in the end it was this new idea this new form factor that really took off so i do believe that five years from now most of us will be using foldable smartphones as this is where the industry is heading towards as not only do we have reports of samsung working on a bunch of foldable phones for 2021 but we also know that apple is also working on their own foldable iphone and we all know that when apple launches theirs well that's what everyone will want a foldable as of right now while the s21 ultra is what i would still consider the best phone that money can buy it is still just a traditional phone but yeah let me know comments what do you guys think about foldable phones in general and traditional smartphones and what do you guys think about the s21 ultra again this was not a review by any means this was just me pointing out some ideas but yeah let me know comments what you guys think uh definitely subscribe if you want to see
