Creating Your First Blog Post with Squarespace: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hey everyone, this is David DeFranco from Squarespace Summit with another tutorial to make your Squarespace website that much better. So, in today's tutorial, we're going to walk you through the process of how to create your first blog post. Now, this may sound basic, but it's definitely something everybody needs to know because having a Blog on your website is essential for not only announcements related to your website, but it's also a great way of connecting with your website visitors.

To get started, simply press the Escape key on your keyboard to enter your content manager view. As you can see, we already have a blog created on Squarespace Summit obviously, but for this video's purpose, we'll create a new blog by clicking "Add Page" in the left sidebar and then selecting "Blog" from the bottom of the popup window. We'll name our blog for this video's purpose "Test Blog" and click Save.

This is where it gets really interesting, because creating your first post is where you can start to get creative with your Squarespace website. Simply click anywhere within the window that says "Add Posts," and then you're presented immediately with an edit post popup window. Here, we can create our blog post title, and for this video's purpose, we'll just put a bunch of random characters here again, just to see how it works.

Now, what's really interesting about adding blog posts in Squarespace is that it's treated like you're creating a regular page outside of your blog. In other words, you can click anywhere between lines of text and add different forms of content from text to markdown language to a quote to images galleries videos audio embeds products Amazon, and the list goes on and on. So, this is definitely huge – the possibilities are pretty much endless, and honestly, it just comes down to what you put into it.

Let's scroll up here and click "Image" for fun. We'll drag an image that I just happen to have on my desktop this is a photo I took recently on a camping trip. Squarespace automatically imports and resizes that image, which does take a moment or so, and then you have it – the image is automatically placed into our blog post. Now, as you can see, I have caption below currently selected, meaning I can insert a caption. So, let's say this is a test caption – we'll click Save on the edit image popup window.

Finally, once your blog post is ready for the public to view, simply click "Save" and then "Publish." Then, click "View Blog," and voila! Your blog and your blog post title are both now live.
