Better than the NVidia Founders... _ RTX 4090 Vulcan OC Review
**The Colours Volcano C: A High-End Graphics Card with a Price Tag to Match**
Essentially what Netflix is using at the moment and it's the most efficient codec and it's the most royalty free so it's giving MP4 and also hevc a run for its money especially hvc it's literally giving that codec a run for its money though in terms of the performance in applications like blender and also v-ray we're getting over double the performance of a 3090 so it is good if you can utilize it for workstation applications and it's going to definitely deliver.
The starting price of the Colours Volcano C is $1599, which may seem steep at first glance. However, considering the level of performance and features this graphics card offers, it's hard to argue with the value. In fact, I never thought I would be entertaining the idea of recommending a card at this price point, but here we are. Years later, with governments and central banks having printing presses that have gone out of control, inflation is going out of control, and companies like Nvidia and board partners like Colours are forced to go to the high end and offer better value at the high end.
**Colours Volcano C: The Best Value in a High-End Graphics Card**
What we've got here is $1599 for their NB model, and now if you don't need any extras and you just want the best what I feel is the best configuration out of the box. From there, you undervolt, and that's going to be the best value of the lineup. You've got the Volcano C here which does include in my opinion a better looking design and you've got that OLED screen, you've got the screwdriver, the Gravis card anti-sad bracket, and you've also got a slightly better design in terms of cooling and performance though the OC itself I wouldn't pay any particular attention to that unless you just like wasting power which power is getting expensive pretty much all around the world.
So, in terms of the OC I would cut that out and actually if I was Colours I would offer an undervolting profile with a button on the back which would be very useful for people who don't want to do undervolting but want to save power. I think that is going to be the best option going forward and I'd love to see more companies do this instead of going down the overclocking route.
**The 1769 Dollar Price Tag: Is it Worth it?**
Now, in terms of that $1769 dollar price tag if you are spending this kind of money and you want that little bit more, that's really not going to give you any more performance. It's just cool extra touches. Ultimately, that choice is up to you though I will say one thing and that is Colours are the number one GPU volume ship company in the world for a reason they are providing some of the best value out of the partners out there in terms of performance and getting the job done with low temperatures and low noise and the build quality in this case is second to none. They've done a good job, there's no wobbly fans unlike the Nvidia Founders card which we took a look at yesterday has a wobbly fan I'm still yet to hear back from Nvidia on that one though.
**Conclusion**
The Colours Volcano C has definitely delivered in terms of performance and features. However, when it comes to the best value out there, especially for workstation applications like Blender and V-Ray, you're going to need to look elsewhere. The used market or discounted 3000 Series models at lower resolutions at 1440p and 1080p may offer better value.
However, if you want the absolute best configuration out of the box without any compromises, then the Colours Volcano C is still the way to go. Just make sure to undervolt it to get the most out of this graphics card. And who knows, maybe one day Colours will offer an undervolting profile with a button on the back which would be very useful for people who don't want to do undervolting but want to save power.
**Future Developments**
I'll catch you in another tech video very soon if you've stayed this far and you're enjoying that Tech yes content. You don't have to hit that like button and also hit that sub button and ring the bell to get the videos as soon as they drop.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe RTX 4090 is an absolute Behemoth and we're just talking about the founders Edition card in today's video we've got an even bigger unit the Vulcan OC from colorful which is even bigger than three slots it's actually three and a half slots and it's longer than the founders and weighs in at two and a half kilos so if you thought graphics cards couldn't get any more ridiculous then colorful are showing you how ridiculous it can get but the size of this cooler does give you impressive temperatures that is on the low side and also low noise now what I'm showing you guys here is also some undervolting figures where this card under volts extremely well just like the founders car that we checked out in yesterday's video now some of you guys in the comments did request that I check out to Bowers video on undervolting where he decided to go down a different route of put putting in essentially power limits of 60 and 70 percent I think that's where he said the sweet spots were for his RTX 4090 cards now I tried that method and then I also cross-referenced that with the undervolting that I did with the Curve profile and the curve profile was very similar to the 70 level it did slightly Edge it out in Easy bench on the performance numbers and what I did here was 950 millivolts so we dropped that voltage down and then we dropped down the clock speed slightly and this card was running absolutely fine and we're getting really good performance now one thing I'm going to talk about before we get into the dedicated 4K numbers comparing this against the founders Edition card I will say that a lot of people are saying you don't need this kind of power and that is very true especially if you're at 1080P or if you're at 1440p there's going to be much better option especially on the used Market which I'm a big Enthusiast of there's already RTX 3080s out there 30 70s 30 60 tis there's even the RX 6600s these are all great cards and they're going to come in at really good prices considering everything that's going on and they also work quite well at 1440p the RTX 4090 is for someone who wants that ridiculous FPS at 4K and they want absolutely no compromises they even want to turn on Ray tracing and have all the fancy bells and whistles now speaking of 4K one thing I'll show you guys is the power consumption not only can you under Vault these cards but if you are playing on a 4K OLED display for example then you can set in a custom frame cap in the Nvidia driver set and if you turn on g-sync as well whilst you're doing this it'll essentially mean you're getting really good power efficiency out of your card with which matches your monitor so instead of me running over 200 FPS Max settings in Apex Legends at 4K I can now do 135 FPS because we're going to drop the FPS slightly below the maximum refresh rate so there's no glitching or no stuttering and we're going to do this with using under 200 Watts at all times that's something that not only any graphics card out there besides the 4090 can do in terms of those frame rates but it's also the power consumption is remaining under 200 Watts so just to put that into perspective it shows you how good these cards can be if you're an Enthusiast wanting the high level stuff though as we roll through the rest of these numbers you'll see that when it comes to 4K gaming there is virtually no difference between the volcano C and the founders Edition and also the volcano C with its normal Bios mode engaged so it's actually got two different bioses one is the OC version one's the normal the normal forms identical to the founders in terms of performance as well as power consumption but the OC model when it comes to games even though it scored a higher score in Easy bench by I think roughly one percent in games it scored even less so as time goes on I'm becoming much less of an Enthusiast on overclocking and much more Enthusiast on undervolting especially given the price of power in a lot of different countries in the world and speaking of these prices you'll want to get the model which is obviously the cheapest in terms of where you live and this is where the dxy is going to make these prices a lot more difficult in pretty much everywhere else in the world but the United States the US dollar has gotten very strong this has caused that 15.99 price tag to essentially make it very difficult to buy these cards in places like Australia for example where I'm from or even where I'm staying now Japan where the prices of these cards are closer to 3 3000 Aussie dollars or in Japan it's sanjuman which is a big ask compared to what the 3000 Series were priced at in local currencies so that's the problem I think Nvidia is facing at the moment is that yes they're offering a very solid card for 15.99 USD but the USD itself has gotten very expensive now there's also the other problem that inflation is creeping up on people's discretionary income that is how much they can spend on things like a graphics card so it is a tough set of circumstances for NVIDIA and also Partners like colorful to sell their graphics cards in but that said the colorful Vulcan OC does do a phenomenal job in terms of what it's delivering and this Edition here is coming in with an additional asking price of a hundred and seventy dollars over there starting from model the 1599 NB now the MB looks like it's got a very similar cooler to the Vulcan OC and with the volcano C doesn't include some very cool extras and I do say cool because usually when I get a graphics card it's got stickers in there it's got some useless stuff that I just do not see myself using but colorful include a little screwdriver with two different sizes if you wish to pull the graphics card apart they also include two different visual displays one of those being an LED screen which you can either mount on your graphics card or mount on a separate USB header which is included as well and this is awesome in the fact that it can display GPU information or you can put custom images on there or you can display CPU information or both at the same time so there's a lot you can do with this little screen the software itself that colorful have introduced here also does a really good job of just working I didn't come into any problems whilst changing RGB LED lighting or else changing anything in general so sometimes when I've tried out software from other brands and things just crash and they're not where you want them to to be this is not the case very polished software and in fact they've got some really cool overlays that you may wish to try out too if you get the i-game software installed they're going through the rest of the card there is one big thing I'll critique and I critique this about the founders Edition card and that is that there's only one HDMI 2.1 which I use for instance an OLED to test this on that really craves HDMI high-end inputs in fact we've only got one there so if you want to use this with more than one HDMI 2.1 display then you're going to be out of luck and in fact they include three display 1.4 A's I believe not even DisplayPort twos and so the outputs in my opinion they could definitely use at least two HDMI 2.1s or of course include display port twos but even then a lot of monitors coming out really only want HDMI 2.1 on the high end so I would prefer to see more HDMI 2.1s on these graphics cards going forward as for the rest rest of the Cod extremely solid build quality at the end you also have the option to mount the included GPU anti-sag bracket and you can mount that in your case and not have to worry about your GPU sagging on the other end of the PCA slot point and onto dlss3 at this point in time I would not be buying an RTX 4090 for DLS S3 although this feature was giving FPS boosts in the games that I tested it in I feel like it is still very buggy and in its infant stages where although the FPS boost is there and I'll pull up these results from yesterday's video also put the link to the founders Edition up here for you guys I feel like the games were just crashing after like the second or third Benchmark run and it was just too frustrating at this stage to recommend also I got asked about gddr6x memory temperatures and they are absolutely fine both on the founders card and in particular this colorful card where they're running under 70 degrees at all times while I was running these gaming benchmarks those of you wondering about power supply consumption in all the tests that I've done in today's review and also yesterday's review I've used an 850 watt Corsair rm850x power supply and it's done an absolutely fine job even with piggyback cables which this graphics card comes included with a PCA Gen 5 adapter which will require four eight pin pcie cables and nothing happened even testing furmark which went over 500 watts direct for the GPU in the turbo OC mode I had no problems where that was scoring over 800 watts from the wall so I think maybe I should do an RTX 4090 test with a 650 watt power supply I think that would make for some interesting content the final thing to go over is the workstation attributes here is where you've got av1 in code which I did a test and unfortunately just on YouTube compression it really doesn't come out well at all but you do you get that feature there and so you can utilize it if you're streaming at lower bit rates or of course if you want to share files over the Internet with the best form of compression av1 is essentially what Netflix is using at the moment and it's the most efficient codec and it's also royalty free so it's giving MP4 and also hevc a run for its money especially hvc it's literally giving that codec a run for its money though in terms of the performance in applications like blender and also v-ray we're getting over double the performance of a 3090 so it is good if you can utilize it for workstation applications and it's going to definitely deliver though as we said before the price tag here is where we're going to jump over to a conclusion the starting from 1599 and this is going to be the best value and I do put quote-unquote there because it is hard to think of a 1599 graphics card as a value option I never thought I would be even entertaining the idea of recommending a card at this price point but here we are years later with governments and central banks having the printers that have gone out of control inflation's gone out of control and then also companies like Nvidia and then board Partners like colorful are forced due to the low end of the market just being completely hollowed out in terms of having any profitability there they're forced to go to the high end and offer better value at the high end though what we've got here is 15.99 for their NB model and now if you don't need any extras and you just want the best what I feel best configuration out of the box comments you want to see more budget stuff that's coming very soon I've got some real good budget Banger stuff coming to you guys very soon don't worry we're getting back to that stuff just all this new stuff is coming through and to be honest as frustrating as it can be sometimes I do enjoy testing stuff especially getting a bearing of where Tech is going and giving you guys the best recommendations going forward but in summary recommendation here is it's a high-end product it's definitely delivering but in terms of the best value out there at the moment of course it's going to be
