LG Unveils Exciting Products at CES 2020

LG's Ultra wide monitor segment is getting some exciting updates. The company has revealed that it is ready as well albeit less so than its Ultra gearing ultra wide buddies on top of exciting developments in their monitor segment. LG's Ultra wide monitors are known for their impressive features and capabilities, and it seems that the company is building on this momentum.

In addition to its monitor segment, LG has also unveiled its new Graham laptops at CES 2020. This is the kind of everyday laptop that's just so thin and light you can just throw it in a bag or a backpack without a second thought. Whether you're going to class, work, coffee shop, or anywhere really, the Graham line has been trademarked by best-in-class performance for productivity combined with great battery life in a light and compact form factor. The new 2020 models offer configurable specs, and are available in 14-inch, 15.6-inch, and 17-inch sizes.

The new Graham laptops weigh just two to three pounds depending on the model and measure no more than 0.6 inches thick. Whew! The panels are blessed by IPS, although the two smaller models support Full HD, while the 17-inch models bump up to 2560 x 1600. The systems are powered by 10th gen Intel Core processors code-named Ice Lake, which are based on an optimized ten nanometer process. Yes, that's right – we're feeling that 10 nanometer fatigue from Intel, but rest assured there's something new around the corner.

The onboard Iris Plus graphics have up to roughly 2x the graphics performance compared to 8th gen Core processors, which let's be real still won't cut it for triple-A gaming in the slightest, but eSports titles, indie games, emulators, and other content will see up to 24 gigs of DDR4 memory. There's also dual SD slots with NVMe support and Thunderbolt 3 via USB-C, as well as a microSD slot. The backlit keyboard now has enlarged keys for Backspace, Enter, and Shift to reduce typos. Heck yes! By the way, there's also a 10-key number pad, which is fantastic.

The old Graham already had fantastic all-day battery life, but it's been improved again from 72 to 80 watt-hours for all weekend battery life. No, that's just a term I made up and probably as an actor under the hood. The thermal solutions also got fitted with a larger, get-thinner fan that allows for cooler, quieter operation over last year's model in the thin and light segment.

Meanwhile, switching gears for our last product here, if you've ever dreamt of having your own home theater without the complexity and cost that they're often bundled with, LG's new Sena Beam 4K projector model (hu7.0la) looks worthy of consideration. It casts a native 3840 x 2160 image up to 140 inches with 92% DCI-P3 and 1500 lumens. LG's 4ch LED technology allows for a 30,000-hour lamp lifespan, so you can watch eight hours a day every day for ten years – thank God for math or else someone would have had to test them.

The tech not only extends the bulbs' lifespan but also significantly reduces initial brightness degradation over time. This is in contrast to conventional projectors, which can appear much dimmer after just a few hundred hours of use. Another huge advantage of the LED technology is the removal of the traditional color wheel used on many single-chip DLP projectors that results in a rainbow effect – a visual artifact caused by a slow wheel forcing sequential color actions to appear simultaneously. The color wheel is replaced by four individual channels for RGB + Dynamic Green, which reduces rainbow effect in the viewer by 90%. RGB improves performance and also uses a single DMD panel with higher sharpness and contrast ratio to reproduce vivid image quality.

The unit supports HDR 10 with dynamic tone mapping and Light (a new technology that enhances display brightness without increasing power consumption). The fully backlit remote comes in handy in dark theater rooms and lets you adjust focus without having to access the projector directly. Thank God, finally!

The Sena Beam 4K projector is available now and competitively priced at $1,799.99. This is just the tip of the iceberg for all the excitement surrounding CES 2020, but let me know which of these products I covered today tickles your nickel!
