"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso morning another day another world test today we're doing it on the s22 ultra if you're not familiar i'm gonna use this phone as my normal phone my sim card's even in it i'm going to take some photos on it some of its competitors put that up on the screen so you can see how it does we'll also talk about some of the features i like and don't like and we'll check another battery throughout the day all while we explore a new hood it may seem like i am in a hotel room and that's because i am this is the cara hotel here in los angeles and it's a cute little hotel that has a very like mediterranean vibe even has these hundred-year-old olive trees in the like entirely outside restaurant surrounding the small pool and the person who checked me in was actually telling me about how this place was opened in 2019 right before the pandemic and it replaced a very run-down motel that even had like bulletproof glass everywhere very different now but regardless let's get out of here because first things first all right we're gonna get around in the only way that i know how in los angeles electric scooters right now we're heading into a neighborhood called los feliz or at least that's how i thought it was pronounced because seems like it's a spanish word and that's how you pronounce it in spanish which i even confirmed with jaime rivera from pacquiao who you might know los feliz but my friend tk of tk bay who actually lives here kindly corrected me and told me that they pronounce it here los feliz in los angeles we refer to it as los feliz now since then i've been asking around how people pronounce it what i've learned is nobody pronounces it the same so how would you say that so if you live in los angeles please in the comments below let me know how i'm supposed to pronounce it thanks coffee check and i decided to try something different actually this is called a cream top it's one of their like signature items it's basically an iced americano with a very sweet cream on top when i say sweet cream it's like it's like the best whipped cream i've ever had this is maru coffee and it's a korean coffee shop which seems kind of appropriate but it comes from the word sen maru which means mountaintop it's kind of a node to their beans being grown in these high elevations actually roast all of their beans in downtown los angeles but they have a little outpost here in this neighborhood while we're here let's talk about what everyone's talking about which is the fact that this now combines the note series and the s series together to the point where people are jokingly calling this the note 22 and it does have the same squared design language all around that the note is known for and we of course have the s pen built in like the note which we'll get into more detail later on but there's something very important that the s series brings that the note series usually doesn't and that's the latest hardware now usually the note series has the same hardware as the by the time the note is launched six month old s series now tan inherited the cameras from the s10 plus the note 20 from the s20 ultra etc the camera hardware is literally the same camera sensors from the s series just kind of reused in the note series so now with this device you get brand new camera hardware since samsung no longer has to split up the resources between the two series we'll talk about the cameras in a sec but there's also a lot of other reasons that make this make a lot of sense while we're out by the way why don't we we were just in is the most visited public observatory in the world griffith observatory built in 1935 by its namesake griffith jenkins griffith his parents were very lazy about picking his first name clearly it is a zeiss refracting telescope in the east dome and a solar telescope in the west stone along with a large planetarium and a bunch of other exhibits now in ann griffith park which is built on a large lot of land that griffith griffith donated to the city happened to be on top of mount hollywood with pretty incredible views of la and probably a good place to talk about the cameras so i've seen a ton of articles talking about how the only difference in the cameras is software and of course if you look at specs on paper it's easy to assume that but samsung has assured me that there are new generations of sensors and interestingly enough you can see that the sensors all have a slightly wider field of view now regardless of the specs the images are obviously what matter and there is a different slash improvement in the photos that come out of the s22 ultra compared to the s21 ultra something honestly i loved about the s21 ultra and i'm very happy to see on the s22 ultra is the sheer variety of focal lengths for the camera we have four cameras so you get an ultra wide wide three times optical telephoto and a ten times optical telephoto now i've said it before and i'll say it again i will take as many cameras on the back of the phone as someone is willing to give me because honestly it's the closest i'll ever get to the interchangeable lenses on my mirrorless camera the more cameras you have on the back or the more lenses you have it's just the more options you have for when taking photos or even videos now where the software does help a ton here on this phone over the s21 ultra is the zoom shots now a hundred times still feels like a fun round number that they just wanted to do for gimmick reasons but like 20 times at least in decent light looks pretty darn close to the 10 times which is kind of nuts and again more options the better this is the barnes doll art park and it's a small park at the top of olive hill that was donated to the city of los angeles by allen barndall back in 1927 along with the frank lloyd wright structures on which sadly are closed for the moment because of kovid so we can't go inside right now it is an art center now actually and the hill is a spot where people from the neighborhood just kind of come to hang and watch the sunset even while we're here let's talk about the s pen for some s series users who aren't familiar with it firstly it's a great fidget spinner i do this a lot much of the annoyance of everyone around me besides that taking out the pen actually activates a menu for pen specific apps now personally the one i use the most of course is samsung notes as jotting down notes is what i use it for the most by far you can also take the pen out when the screen is off to be able to write on the lock screen and it'll save it automatically when you're done just as a way to kind of take notes really quick now i also particularly like the fact that there is a physical button on the pen which i set to an eraser something i simply need quick access to when i'm writing now the other thing that's super useful to do with it is that it's also a remote so you can hold the button and swipe up in the air with the camera open to switch between the rear and front cameras you can hold the button down and make a circle in one direction to zoom in or the other direction to zoom out and you can of course tap the button to take a photo or start a video recording it's actually pretty useful for when you know you're filming or taking photos of yourself by yourself and frankly the fact that the pen is built in means you don't have to plan to bring it it's just there if you need it which personally to me and a lot of other reviewers that i know makes a huge difference compared to any other device with a pen that is separate so this is like one of two main drags in this neighborhood it's located here just north of hollywood boulevard and the park we were just at and then there's another main drag that's like a couple of blocks over that's a bit longer and that's where we were actually earlier today when we got coffee but this little main drag even though it's only like four blocks long there's something about like the trees and like the string it's just a very cute little main drag it's very little but it's cute all right in a bit of a juxtaposition to the sidewalk cafes on this street we have a place called atrium it's an american restaurant that has a small cute alley that leads into it with outdoor tables but the indoor space is honestly massive for this part of town and a very objectively good looking space i might add it actually apparently was the old storage facility for the theater that's a few doors down now as for the phone as for the battery it died when we were at the park so here is my screen outside my usage for today for anyone who's curious and of course today is not a normal day i used the phone a ton i filmed with it a lot etc so here is another day where i did not do a real world test so you can compare that as well welcome okay calling it a night so firstly the starting price of this phone is 1200 and that is the same as last year and you get all the normal like incremental upgrades that we're used to from year over year but you also get the s pen for free now if you had an s21 ultra the s pen and like the slightly improved cameras probably not worth it upgrade but you have any of the lesser models from that lineup or just older devices then maybe the really interesting thing about this device though is the mixing of the two very distinct samsung phone lines into one as mentioned before and honestly it makes a lot of sense note and ultra users share a lot of overlap with both wanting larger screens and basically just like the highest end tech they can get in their phone nothing stopping most no users from buying the ultra was the lack of an s pen which we now have and as mentioned like sort of for free so now no users can get this device and anyone that would normally be an ultra user won't mind just having an s pen they might even start to use it and like it which i'm sure samsung really wants because the s pen is a feature that apple still doesn't have and i'm sure that samsung's own research has shown is a very sticky feature it keeps people within their ecosystem once they get used to it and honestly if we look at the entire lineup now of samsung's like mid to higher end phones we have something at every price point from the s21 fv at the low end all the way up now to the z fold three and now the z fold three can use the s pen so i'm just waiting for the day where the s pen now fits inside of the z fold 3 and maybe it starts to absorb a bit of the ultra series if that happens we're probably still a
