grandpa's electric vehicle it's got  a thousand horsepower and it can do this  all right  the MSRP of the Hummer EV is a hundred  and ten thousand dollars but last year  one sold at auction for 250  000 and for all that money this thing  better be futuristic but you take one  look at the cockpit definitely delivers  to be honest it's a little overwhelming  with all the technology inside of this  thing but it begs the question do all  these bits Bobs and buttons really make  this thing any more fun to take off-road  let's talk about how we got here now up  into the Vietnam War America's Main  military vehicle was the Jeep but as War  technology and tactics evolved so did  the military's need for a more capable  vehicle that's where the Humvee comes in  so in 1983 the United States spent a  whopping  1.2 billion dollars Contracting AM  General to develop early versions of the  hmmwv or high Mobility multi-purpose  wheeled vehicle we like to call it the  Humvee  it was built to be a rugged and  Unstoppable force on the battlefield and  its sheer size presence and undeniable  badassery started to gain attention from  everyday civilians and one of those  civilians with none other than star of  the hit film Jingle All The Way Arnold  Schwarzenegger now Arnold saw a few of  these things on the street and was  instantly hooked he was like I have big  muscles that car looks like it has big  muscles so I need to be a big muscly guy  inside the big car mostly God so my boy  Arnold made a few calls and eventually  convinced AM General to give him a  street legal one and with a price tag of  a hundred thousand dollars which is 216  000 for inflation today it's no wonder  that the H1 was highly sought after by  the Hollywood Elite and it only made it  more alluring to the general public Jer  have you ever driven a H1 Hummer I have  not well Jerry we're about to pull up on  a Hummer H1 and I don't know about you  but I am stoked to see this thing in  person and finally get to drive one the  Hummer H1 boom baby and all her magical  ebony Glory the Hummer H1 Alpha the most  powerful Hummer H1 to have ever came out  it has a 6.6 liter Duramax turbo diesel  making a whopping 300 horsepower oh this  is going to be exciting when we do a tug  of war a little bit later especially  with only 520 torque this one is  imported from Japan born in America yes  did a little uh study abroad in Japan  and the parents called it back home they  said hey you're done all right get back  home let's see what the inside is like  yeah let's take a gander you know this  feels very familiar but also extremely  different to me the original H1 was  considered the most analog vehicle ever  which is probably because it was  inspired from a military vehicle but the  alpha is much nicer we got butt warmers  we got switches for the windows good  switches by the way if GM made all their  switches like this in the 2000s their  trucks would last longer this is  straight from the catfish and every  other GM vehicle from the 2000s but the  gauge clusters are cool it says it can  go a very generous 100 mile an hour I  mean what's under here what's typically  under here is this part of the funnel  the military Humvee this is your where  you stand for the turret on top okay I'm  a tall boy I'm six foot four so this is  my leg situation right now this is the  size of my hand okay just think of a  normal sized man hand but mine are  bigger I got the best hands possible I  have noticed something that is exactly  the same from a military Humvee the  e-brake nice whoa whoa it's over like  that oh that's sick now Justin I'd say  that my Hummer is pretty futuristic now  just because this Hummer is electric  doesn't mean it's efficient just like  it's granddaddy this thing sucks Zeus  juice quicker than anything on the  market it has a 205 kilowatt hour  battery and it gets 329 miles of range  compared to the very efficient Lucid  airs 520 mile of range on 118 kilowatt  hour battery the Hummer EV is still just  as much of a guzzler as its 11 mile per  gallon predecessor but all those quirks  and little gadgets probably won't do you  too well on a real off-road Trail well  there's an off-road Trail like here yeah  why don't we go bomb a hill and see uh  if those electronic gadgets help me or  hurt me this is a sketchy line it is a  really big wash but we're so wide I'm  pretty confident we can clear all this  I'm in low right now in one as well I'm  just riding the brake big drop right  there  you know not really worried because it's  16 inches of clearance
