The Affordable Horse: A Muscle Car Buying Guide
Dodge is known for its affordable muscle cars, but they're not the only game in town. Ford has a range of Mustangs that offer powerful engines at a fraction of the cost of some of their competitors. The most expensive option on the list is the GT 500, which makes an astonishing 760 horsepower and costs $73,000. However, for those who want to save a buck, there are plenty of other options.
One of the most affordable Mustangs on the market is the EcoBoost, which starts at just $27,000. Despite its smaller engine, it packs a punch, producing 310 horsepower and giving it a value of $88 per horsepower. That's a bargain, especially when compared to the Dodge Challenger.
But Ford isn't the only game in town. Chevrolet has been quietly building a reputation for offering affordable muscle cars. The Camaro LT1 is a great example, with its 6.2-liter V8 producing 455 horsepower and starting at just $34,000. That's a value of $75 per horsepower, making it the best option on the list.

But don't just take our word for it - put the Camaro LT1 through its paces and see what you think. With its powerful engine and agile handling, this car is sure to leave you grinning from ear to ear.

And let's not forget about performance - the Camaro LT1 is a real rocket ship, with 455 horsepower and a 0-60 time that's quicker than most sports cars. But it's not all about raw power - this car also has a comfortable interior and advanced safety features like lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
Overall, the Chevrolet Camaro LT1 is a great option for anyone looking for an affordable muscle car with plenty of performance. Its powerful engine, aggressive styling, and comfortable interior make it a joy to drive - and its affordable price tag makes it accessible to everyone.

lot of great new cars, but which new car is the best valuewhen it comes to power, baby?Today we're gonna find out. We're talking dollars per HRSPRS.I'm James. This is the Monolist, and this is The D-List.A big thanks to The Zebrafor sponsoring today's video.(horn honking)- Ah, how do I fix this thing?- Hey, replace the so and sowith a new such and such, and she'll run like new.- Are you a car baby!(mellow instrumental music)Guys, I found it!It was in the hole the whole time.(car horn honking)Guys?- In this video, we'regoing off a 2022 MSRPs,but as we all know,MSRP are meaninglessbecause society's broken, everything's fake, and dealers can charge whatever they want. You'll own nothing and like it.Now just to set a baseline, the absolute cheapestnew car that you can buyin America today is the Chevy Spark. It has an MSRP of $13,600,and makes a whoopin' 98 HRSPR.Do the math. That is $139 per horse. Now on the other side of the spectrum,a brand new, lamber-guymachi Aventador SVJcosts $517,000.It as a 6.5 liter V12,that makes 760 horsepower. But crunch those numbersand you wind up with 681 per HRSPR.Worst value than a Chevy Spark.Makes you think.Let's be honest,Chevy Spark is in the mostexciting sports car in the worldand the Lamborghini isn'texactly budget minded. So, let's talk about everyone's favorite,budget-ish sports car,the 2022 GR Supra. Now the cheapest Supra available todayhas a two liter in line four. That's the exact amount of Mr. Pibbthat Nolan drinks after lunch. But with the help of a littlespinning boy turbo charger, this Pibster makes 255 HRSPRs.With a starting price of around 43 grand, that gives us a dollarper horsepower of $169.But, just because the four cylinder oneis the cheapest Supra, doesn't mean it's the best valuebecause you can also get itwith a three liter six cylinder.Costs 8,000 more dollars, but this three liter skeeterhas a dollar per HRSPRof 135 bucks.Sorry, Spark! You've been usurped fromthe top of the Monolist!Supra reigns king! For now.(dramatic music)I mean is the Supra reallyeven Toyota's best bargain?Well, let's take a lookat his little brother, the GR86.It makes less power, 228,but it also costs less monies.27 grand, MSRP.That gives us a ratio of $121 per horse. But neither of those flagship sports carsis even Toyota's best value.Allow me to introduce the TRD Camry,as in Toyota Racing Development. That's right. They did a TRD on a Camry. And this sensible sedan means businesswith 301 horsepower coming from its V6.Costs a little over $32,000,giving it a dollar per horsepower of $108.That's a value. Now since we're talking aboutaffordable, front wheel drive sports carsat this point in the video, let's see where Honda stacks up.Now the top is dog offered by Hondais of course the Civic Type R.Every pirate's favorite car. It's supposed to start at $38,000.Here's a used one thatI found at a dealershipthat's listed for $64,000.64 American thousanddollars for a used Honda. Now we have a whole on this showabout the absurdity ofthe used car market. And if you thinkdealerships are outta hand, consider hitting that subscribe button.Hit that notification bell.If you like that kind of stuff,we make that kind of stuff. You check it out.Anyway, 306 horses live inside ofthe Civic Type R's, two liter engine. If somehow you found onethat isn't double the MSRP,that gives you a DPH of $124.But, turns out the Type Risn't Honda's best valuefor power at all. It's not the Civic SI either. It's not even an Accord. The best dollar perhorse Honda we could findwas the Odyssey LX.This minivan has a 118 dollars per HRSPR.I didn't wanna include theOdyssey on this list, all right? It's a list about sports cars, but the Honda Odyssey isthe monolith's favorite car,and he had a whole teamof lawyers threaten me,so I didn't have a choice, all right?(lightning buzzing)Now, let's check back in.The TRD Camry is still on top,but which car company'sfinally gonna step up and kickthis sedan off the mountain? Is it Hyundai with Veloster N?Nope.118, tied with the Odyssey.Maybe VW with the GTI?Not even close.123 buck, barely even a value.I wish I would've spread these out more.Let's try the Subaru's WRX.This boxer boy makes 268 HRSPRs,starts at $27,000,giving us a dollar to power ofa dollar three.Boom!King of the list!(dramatic music)For now.And I think it's timeto step it up a notch,so we got a lot of congestion down here. The new Z boy is coming out next yearand we're fired up about it.It looks sick and it'sgonna have a 400 HRSPRtwin turbo, V6.Uh, super killer much? And you can get it with manual. So what's the price tag gonna beon this 400 HRSPR Z?Well, Nissan says it's gonna cost $40,000.That's a hundred dollars per HRSPR,ladies and gents.A cool, crisp, even number. Finally! We can do better than that. All right, let's move on toInglewood's favorite muscle car,a vehicle known for makingway too much horsepowerfor the amount of money that it costs.I am of course talkingabout the Dodge Challenger. But which Challenger is the best value?Let's start with the king of the pack, the Superstock. Now this makes the most powerout of any current Challenger.807 HRSPRs,but it costs $84,000.That's a dollar four per HRSPR.But down great to the Hellcat Redeye, and you save about 10 grand. With 707 horsepower,we're all a sudden onlyspending $94 per horsepower. We're in the double digits, guys. You can't afford not to get one of these. Now downgrade againto a regular, old, grandpa Hellcatand you're looking at $66,000 MSRP.That gives you a dollar per power of $93.But again, let us downgrade evenfurther to the (beep) pack. One of the coolest cars named after poop.Unlike the other challengers on this list, the (beep) pack doesnot have a supercharger. It has a naturally aspirated, 6.4 liter V8that makes 485 HRSPRs.That's 322 horsepowerless than the Superstockin the same car.Yes, but it's also $41,000 cheaper. So, the humble Scatpackhas a DPH of just $89 per horse. That's a cheap horse! You go to the fair, you see 'em lined up,you say, how much is that one? They say $89.You say, Betty, that's a cheap horse. But Dodge ain't the only car companyselling powerful, cheap cars.Ford has a lot of different Mustangs, and they put down some prettygood power for the price too.On the expensive end of the spectrum, over in here, you got the GT 500which makes an absolutelynormal, usable 760 horsepower. It costs 73 grand, meaning the GT 500 givesyou $96 per horsepower. That's a bargain, but on the cheaper sideof the Mustang spectrum, you can buy a four cylinder EcoBoostfor only 27,000 bucks.A car people made fun ofthe EcoBoost for years. That the Ford ain't have no V8,so it ain't a real 'Stang! That's what they said. They said it all over the place! They made T-shirts and everything. And honestly,I don't think it deservedmuch hate to be begin withbecause that four banger-stanger,makes 310 horsepower, giving it a ratio of $88 per HRSPR.First place!Better value than a poop pack Dodge.Surprisingly, there's another Ford that'san even better value. The GT's famous, five V8makes 460 HRSPR!That is more than enoughto have a good time.Believe me.I've never even owned acar with that much power. And you could walk into animaginary Ford dealershipthat honors MSRP values, and buy this 'Stand for 36 grand.Good luck, but theoretically you could. What's that give us?A value of $79 per horsepower. You know how much an actual horse costs?Do you know how muchland you need to maintain460 livestock animals?Good on ya, Ford! But even still, the list ain't done!I popped my ears when I did that.Ae still gotta talk about Chevy, but first I wanna givehonorable mention to Rivian, and we thought about includemore trucks on this list,or more EVs,but we decided people don'treally buy trucks for HRSPR;however, the Rivian R1-T is very quick. It makes 835 electric buffers, hearses, and costs 67 grand, giving it a ranking of$81 per electric horse. That's better than any othertruck that we could find, and it's got a little pocket on the sidethat you can fit a Jimmy in.And with that outta the way,can Chevy make it tothe top of the Monolist?First up, the Corvetteis a pretty good valuefor what it is,but don't waste your time. It's $126 per HRSPR.Moving on.If you're looking forserious budget power, you're gonna want to get yourself a 'Maro.A Camaro. And the biggest chonger in the lineupis the ZL1, which makes650 bumblebee horses. It's 63 grand. That's $97 per pony. And just to be clear, that's before you factorin the gas guzzler tax,and the destination charge, and also getting completely, completely reamedby the dealership.Just reamed.(man yelling)But you don't have topay a gas guzzler taxon the V6 Camaro 1LT.It makes 335 horsepower. It only costs 27 grand,so it ties with the Rivianat 81 bucks per pour. We're not even done!Chevrolet beat theMustang GT's insane value!Let's crunch some numbers and find out.(dramatic instrumental music)(music skipping)Fact number one,the Chevy Camaro LT1,not to be confused with the one LTthat we just talked about, has a 6.2 liter V8that turns out 455 HRSPRs.Fun fact number two,the Chevy Camaro LT1has a starting MSRP of $34,000.Let me just do a little math here.(dramatic instrumental music)(loud explosion)$75 per horsepower! The greatest value on planet Earth! That is the last Chevyyou'll see on this list.In fact, that's the lastcar you'll see on this list.- Check out
