Xiaomi Mi5 Long Term Review & Relook after 6 months

Battery Life Improvement: A Game-Changer for Xiaomi Mi 5 Users

One of the most significant improvements of the latest update on the Xiaomi Mi 5 is the battery life. The device used to struggle with battery life, especially when using mobile data. In fact, the battery life was so poor that it could only last around 2 and a half hours of screen on time. However, with the latest updates and the MIUI, users are now experiencing significant improvements in battery life. Even with mobile data enabled, the phone can now easily last for around 4-5 hours of screen on time, mostly if Wi-Fi is used. This is a huge improvement from the previous days when battery life was a major concern.

The addition of Quick Toggles: A Nice Feature

Another significant improvement in the latest update is the addition of quick toggles. The MIUI now comes with various quick toggles that allow users to quickly switch between different features, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more. This feature is particularly useful for those who want to quickly switch between their phone's connectivity options without having to go through the settings menu.

Phone Performance: Smooth and Stable

The device also boasts improved phone performance, with a smooth and stable user interface. The MIUI has fixed many of the bugs that were present in the earlier version, making it feel more responsive and efficient. This is particularly noticeable when switching between different apps or features without any lag or stuttering.

Network Stability: A Big Fix for Xiaomi Mi 5

One of the most significant improvements of the latest update is the improvement in network stability. The device used to struggle with dropped calls and poor connectivity, but the latest update has fixed these issues. Users can now enjoy stable and reliable connectivity, even with 4G networks.

IR Blaster: A Useful Feature for Third-Party Apps

The IR blaster on the Xiaomi Mi 5 is another feature that was missing in earlier versions of the device. The IR blaster allows users to control their TV's remote control or other devices using the phone. However, it also works with third-party apps like PE, which can be very useful for those who want to use their phone as a universal remote.

Google Now on Tap: A New Functionality

The latest update has also added Google Now on Tap functionality to the device. With this feature, users can access various Google services and features by simply long-pressing the home button. This is a significant improvement over the earlier version of the MIUI, which did not have this feature.

Fingerprint Scanner: Fast and Reliable

The fingerprint scanner on the Xiaomi Mi 5 has also been improved in the latest update. The scanner now works quickly and reliably, with an embedded fingerprint sensor on the home button that provides fast and secure biometric authentication.

Physical vs. Capacitive Button: A Convenience Feature

One of the most interesting features of the device is the physical vs. capacitive button combination. The phone has both a physical home button and a capacitive button that can be lightly tapped for quick navigation. This feature allows users to customize their experience, switching between the two buttons to suit their preferences.

A Limitation: No Micro SD Card Support

One major limitation of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is the lack of micro SD card support. The device only comes with a 32 GB internal storage option, which may not be sufficient for those who need more storage space. This is particularly true for heavy users who require a lot of storage space.

Relance Geo: Native Support for Volt

The latest update has also added native support for Relance Geo, a popular SIM provider in India. With this feature, users can enjoy seamless and reliable connectivity with their phone's 4G network. The call quality is excellent, even on low signal areas, making it an ideal option for those who want to stay connected.

The Design: A Compact and Stylish Phone

Finally, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has a compact and stylish design that fits comfortably in the hand. The device's glass back may be slippery, but with the right protection, users can enjoy a secure grip on their phone. However, it's worth noting that the phone is one of the most slippery devices available, so caution is advised when handling it.

Overall Experience: A Positive Review

In conclusion, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has come a long way since its release in 2016. With significant improvements in battery life, network stability, and overall performance, this device is now a solid option for those looking for a reliable and feature-rich smartphone. While there are still some limitations, such as the lack of micro SD card support, the device's many positives make it an attractive choice for many users.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is Ranjit and in this uh video we're going to have a relook at the xiaomi MI5 and actually unboxed this product in April and I did its review in May after using it for a month now it's been almost 6 months since I have this device now we're going to have a relo because if you recall in the review that I did in May there were a lot of cons that I had with this device but now this device has got a lot of software updates and now it's in fact running on the new Mi 8 and I feel a lot of things have improved with this device so we'll be having a relo again I won't be going into all the uh pros and cons I've already covered that in my in-depth review so I would suggest that you watch that video but before we continue here are the specs for the MI5 on the screen you can have a look at the same and the first problem that I earlier had with the uh xiaomi MI5 I was using it with ATL 4G ATL 4G is my primary uh mobile provider and uh in April and May when I did the review with Airtel 4G here in Hyderabad I had serious Network stability problem uh with the MI5 and due to that the battery life that I was getting was also not that good again I retested it in June but again the situation was the same it did get a few updates but it's not that great but now with the latest updates of the Mii 8 I have to say the network issues have been solved I'm no longer getting dropped calls or dropped connection that I was was having earlier and also in terms of battery life I have to say the battery life has also improved earlier also when it was mostly on Wi-Fi the battery life used to be good but the problem was that when you used to use mobile data the battery life was sort of pathetic I was only getting around 2 and 1 half hours of screen on time but now with the latest updates and with the mui I'm getting pretty good battery life even on mobile data that is 4G I could even get a screen on time of about 4 OD hours uh with mobile data 90% of the time and mostly if I'm on Wi-Fi it's close to about 5 hours of screen on time so in terms of battery life I would say the battery life has tremendously improved especially on mobile data so you shouldn't be worried about uh that now moving to the next thing is that it comes with the new uh Mii and I like it I would say I wouldn't say it's faster or something like that I didn't notice but the addition of quick toggles and stuff is nice to have and overall I would say the phone performance has improved now uh it does not hang or anything like that and also the network is really stable so finally uh xiaomi fixed all the bugs that I was mentioning uh and I still like the fact that this device has the IR Blaster and it works with third party apps like PE Etc so you don't have to be worried about that now another thing uh that was missing earlier was that though it was running on Android marshmallow but it didn't have Google on top functionality but now with mi8 we have that if you press this home button for a while you can access Google Now on tap so that functionality is now back and also I still like the fingerprint scanner it has this home button which has an embedded fingerprint scanner and I have to say uh the performance is good as you can see it unlocks immediately so it's really fast and it's been working very well and also like the fact that this uh button is a physical and a capacitive type also if you just lightly tap it it also acts like a home button you don't have to physically press that so you can customize that so overall in terms of day-to-day performance the phone has been performing pretty well one big con that I have with this device is that still xiaomi is selling only the 32 GB variant of the MI5 in India and we don't have any micro SD card support on this one uh so again the storage is limited they haven't launched the 64 GB model yes they have reduced the price earlier it was 25,000 but now it's about 23,000 but still it's sold via me.com and only the 32 GB variant is there so if you're a very heavy user who has a lot of storage then the Mii might not be for you another thing that I did test is that now we have relance Geo and I did test it with the relance Geo Sim and it has native support for volt so the volt calls work without any issues and the call Clarity Etc is excellent even on uh with Lance Geo Sim uh lastly again the phone looks pretty stylish I would say it's a compact size phone I still like the form factor it easily fits in your hand and uh overall it's nice if you don't like big uh size phones but again the phone is damn slippery I would say one of the most slippery phones that I've used apart from the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so again you have to be a little bit careful because the back is again glass so again you have to have some sort of prodection because uh if you know Amit Bhai from phone radar his MI5 fell down and the back is sort of as it's glass it's cracked so again I would suggest that you have some sort of back case of prodection because the phone is damn slippery so again to Summit I would say the earlier flaws that I was having with the Mii particularly regarding to the network reception issues it was losing a lot that is solved now and also the battery life has tremendously improved particularly on mobile data so to sum it up I would say if you really like the xiaomi Mi 5 uh now I can certainly recommend this device but again we still have devices like the OnePlus 3 and also the uh lenovo's uh Z2 plus is also coming soon in the market so we have a lot more options again regarding the camera performance the camera performance is again the same what I had in May again I also did a camera comparison between the OnePlus 3 and the Mii link for that comparison will be in the YouTube show notes so again guys I hope that you found this sort of re-review of the product uh helpful and if you're not subscribed to my YouTube channel hit that subscribe button thanks for watching this is ranit and I hope to see you in my next video ehi there this is Ranjit and in this uh video we're going to have a relook at the xiaomi MI5 and actually unboxed this
