X399 Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 AMD Threadripper MB Review -- LGH

**A Closer Look at the Highly Anticipated Motherboard**

As a huge fan of this motherboard, I was excited to get my hands on it and take a closer look at its features.

That's one cool thing about this motherboard - it has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't audio or anything else here.

I'm glad I could confirm that the RGB lighting is indeed TPM, which means there are eight + four fan headers on this board, which is kind of odd, but not entirely unexpected. Some thread worker boards had more fan headers in the first generation, and now we have five, six, seven, and eight fan headers at our disposal.

Let's take a look at the IO, shall we? We have keyboard and mouse connectors - purple for keyboard and green for mouse, because, why not? They're powered by USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, which is pretty nice. And of course, there are six of them! We also have one red USB port, which could be either a 3.2 or specific to certain needs, like a bias update. It's got Wi-Fi and gigabit connectivity, but I'll look into whether it's 2.4 or not.

The board itself has a beautiful gold-plated design with fiber optic cables - nice touch! The plate on the bottom is pretty much empty, except for these beefy looking capacitors, which makes me happy because that means the board can handle heavy loads without breaking a sweat.

As I mentioned earlier, this motherboard is the one I've always wanted. It's got all the features and design elements that make it stand out from the crowd. And now, let's start building!

**Building This Beast**

We're going to build this motherboard as air-cooled, using the big Ryzen fan that was released a while ago. I want to know what it's like, so I'm putting it on the board first. The reason for this is that I've always wanted one of these fans for my server, but they didn't fit in the space where they were meant to be.

We'll be using the EK Quantum Velocity water block for this build, which I also used in my server. But before we get to that, let's take a closer look at some of the other features on this board...

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enokay guys welcome back and we are going to look at a thread Ripper motherboard this is the x399 Aurorus gaming 7 of course from gigabyte as that is my brand of choice now I know this is not the newest board but this is the board I'm going with for my build for now and until I can afford to get a better thread Ripper CPU in it now I've already and you've already seen some of the uh things that I've done with my threadripper server which still unknown and unclear what I'm doing but I want to go over this board because I'm about to start building my uh new editing computer and this is what I want it to be I've always wanted one and I always wanted this board so we have it foreign get going I put this here um I have to say that uh when I bought this board it did not have a back plate and I didn't think much of it because I thought that Aurorus high end they have the back plates built in but apparently the first generation when they started doing this did not so I had to get that and that was like thirty dollars that was a 3D print I did um it's still in there and that was going to be a cut I was going to cut it to replace this but I have the original now um the bag of stuff I will say it does come with this SLI bridge for NVIDIA cards it's kind of cool but also at the same time not really uh relevant to me anyway um this stuff was all in bags because like everything was loose in here I bought the board used okay so I bought the board used with a I think this board had a 1950 X but it was my buddy who bought the board first and he wanted the Chip And yeah so it's a long story so here is the uh piece that you wire in all your wires and you can just plug it directly into the board no fooling around extra nvme uh screw-ins looks like a argb thing here and the worst metal logo which I always love of course and this is a thermo sensor so thermal sensors are kind of neat uh bilingual your installation disk none of this stuff anybody uses anymore and here is a nice big thick book so that is uh or manual book so the key here is I wanted to go over the board not necessarily what comes with it because again this is a older board um it's just it was my favorite board a board that I didn't think I could ever afford and here it is well this is in the box and it's well used so if I was actually going to use this I would literally put brand new Thermo pads on again you don't know what you're getting half the time when you buy used off eBay but this seemed to be an okay deal I have tested the board that's why you've seen the threadripper was already in it to make sure that it was working and I didn't get ripped off um so we got a hyperx sticker for a non-hyperx product weird and you can see that they custom cut this was never the insert and you still get the stickers I've always loved these stickers I thought these were always cool okay looking at the board straight out you'll notice that the CPU is in here as I said I had to test it I got it from eBay we never know what you're getting so fire it up make sure it's all good this in particular chip is a ryzen a threadripper 1920x 12 core 24 thread I know it's an older processor but when a 2000 series like a 2990 or something like that becomes cheaper this is still a feasible package so that is my goal here is to and I always wanted the 1950x my buddy has one I don't yet but one day I'll find a good deal on the 1950x just to have it and the packaging I don't have any of the packaging I want the packaging I love the way that original packaging was so off the Hop there is three nbme slots I just noticed that there is one here because I was wondering I thought there was three and it puzzled me because we had that little tiny shorter one but that's where it goes so I'm happy to see that I was starting to think wow there's only two one here on a threadripper that's just absolute you know but it isn't so USB C right here 24 pin you have three uh fan headers here so I think the CPU and water pump or or whatever you want to do with it because it never really matter you can do that regardless your headers are right here here's your error LEDs to tell you if they have something going wrong USB 3.0 two more fan headers right here this is one of those boards that is going to make you happy as far as needing fans uh I get it it's a fan I'm a fan of this uh whatever that was here of course USB twos there's uh two of them yeah so I was just making sure it wasn't audio or anything here we have your uh TPM that's your RGB not argb and this I believe is uh lighting as well um I think there's adapters for that I have to check I know my other boxes or kits I've had over the time has had them looks like this is you know been dinged up a little bit I might try and clean that up as I go along but we'll have to see um next is the uh well of course the amp up audio and the high-end caps that are being used this is one of the things that I love and I mean most motherboard manufacturers are doing that now um but they do it well here we have your reset button uh I think that's a CMOS clear or and then your power switch the ram slots actually have RGB Lighting in the slots it's really cool the board looks like lit up and you can see why I always wanted this board if you're a fan of RGB awesome if you're not well turn them off but you'll see that they're every all the ram slots everything are completely lit up on this no I didn't plug this in yet but I just wanted to show you guys why I think this board is so freaking cool and why haven't they continued doing this the idea is completely gone if you don't want certain things on turn them off they should give you at least the option to do so and I don't understand why it became something that just you have a good vrm cooler I cannot find a water block that would be a vrm like a monoblock for this board anymore if you know anybody or you know where to get one please let me know so we're going to be using the EK Quantum velocity which I did use also one in my server but first we are going to build this as air cooled so remember that big ryzen fan they had out there well we're going to put that on it first and the reason for that is I want to know what it was like I always wanted one finally had one that didn't fit in the server where it was meant to be hence I had to go water cooled now there is a lot of toys on the board like fan headers like I said here's another one um it is a eight plus four which is kind of odd you think it would be an eight and eight but not all of the thread worker boards were in the first generation two more fan headers here so you got two more here RGB here three here so that's five six seven eight fan headers on this board that I can see off the Hop pretty pretty nice so let's look at the IO so here we have of course keyboard or Mouse that's why if you're ever wondering why this is purple and green because Purple Keyboard green Mouse same connector powered USBS USB threes uh of course there's six of those we have a USBC right here we have a red USB which is usually a 3.2 but it also could be uh specific like this white one could be for the one you would need to plug in for a simple bias update or whatever this one has Wi-Fi um gigabit I believe I don't know if this has 2.4 or not uh that's something I'll look into and of course everything's gold-plated and beautiful with the fiber optic because it does have a decent high-end sound and on the bottom here nice plate pretty much nothing really to you know other than I do see these are pretty beefy for what they are and that makes me happy because well I want to believe that the board that I always wanted is the board that I'm happy I got it was a quick brief well send me brief overview of the board and the reason why I wanted to show it is the board I always wanted it does look like I'm gonna have to do some cleaning up here and there um but it is the board I always wanted almost a chip I always wanted let's start building guys till next time which is coming really soon game overokay guys welcome back and we are going to look at a thread
