DIY Cozy Pom Pom Rug - HGTV Handmade

As the weather gets cooler, we get to get a little cozier and what does more cozy then having a plush rug? Not much in the craft world, I'll tell you that so today we're going to take our shared adoration of pom-poms and take it to the next level by making something I've been dying to try - a fabulous room decor DIY pom pom rug.

Now that it's October, it's the perfect time of year to make these and it's super easy. All you need is a bit of time and a bit of yarn. Save yarn use some that you already have and pair it with stuff at the store be sure to check out the sales section. I just saved you a lot of money and time, and you're welcome. To get started, measure and cut your rug pad to the size you want. My rug pad is 18 by 24 inches with varying sizes pom-pom makers and an array of colorful yarn.

Make enough pom poms to completely cover your mat. I made 100 pom-poms in total, but that's not necessary - just do as many as need be for complete coverage and a lovely cozy pom-pom rug. The thicker the yarn the faster it'll go. Double up yarn to make poms at twice the speed tripling goes even faster and creates a layered multi dimensional look. Choose one base color like white and add smaller snipped of a contrasting color then continue on with the white and add another pop if you like. Your pom is looking pretty sweet, prune your completed poems before adding to the mat.

To fix any mistakes or unevenness, I ended up ruining most of them off for the cleanest look and fix the pom-poms with a separate piece of yarn instead. Do this to all of your pom-poms, add as many pom-poms as need be for complete coverage and a lovely cozy pom-pom rug to warm up the fall and winter months.

What color palette will you go for? Classic fall modern and bright ombre - let a girl know in the comments below. Be sure to subscribe to HDTV handmade and keep the pin a thumbs up if you dig pom-poms, who doesn't love pom-poms anyway. I'll see you guys later bye.
