vehicles um for for potential buyers I like the S-Class I like this car but the only thing I would change about it is I would I think that the rear angle the rear quarter panel makes the car seem a little bit higher than it than it is and it makes it look a little bit less sporty that's all like I think for example I think the Tian is sporty looking it may not be the best looking car in the world but the angles the car has wide hips I like cars that have wide hips you name it the Z6 the whatever they all have wide hips look it even has a hood scoop why would an electric car need these why would it really it really is look at this it really is Stephen it's the same car see yeah a lot a lot of inspiration what do you see Lincoln MKT but I do like this design element here over on the uh on the C pillar it almost looks like the integration from the glass roof to the rear glass I like this little like helmet looking thing it's like a neat design thing um also I think this also comes in aluminium roof for for those on a budget as they say that's the pure version yeah such as myself so if I were to get one I would probably get the aluminum roof because I think it's a little cheaper you don't get as much horsepower though how much do you get you know those Wheels look that yeah this some influence there just got a turbine slant to them this some influence there but no in all this really is good looking carbo I think the side profile is definitely my favorite favorite faite the the side profile like the way you have the camera set up right here is definitely my favorite but I to the the true obvious competitor of a Model S probably be PL honestly they don't want to admit that they they truly believe that the main competitor to this car is a Mercedes-Benz S-class which on paper would make sense it's in dimension wise it's about the same the interior volume feels the same but in reality unfortunately people are going to be comparing this car to a model to a top-of-the-line Model S clad over and over all all day every day the Tesla people are going to say Hey listen this is another electric car that we can hate because we love Tesla so much all the it all the controls for lights fog lights headlights are on the appropriate side that it would be in a normal car anyways you know like old square body you name it any car y most of the controls are right here for the light so you either pull to have the high beams on or you turn it left or right to increase the the brightness or dimness of the dash this is perfect at a glance ready you want your headlights on push this button you want your wipers on high low medium push this button this is a concave door and it makes it feel like the car is a lot wider than it really is this comes out at least 3 in from over here on most cars really wish they would show up better yeah yeah I know you'd have this flush you can't really see it you'd have this flush for the most part and it'd be like a very minor armrest you can actually fit your hand all the way in here it makes this car feels so spacious it's not even funny you could tell that the team that did this they had design in mind one thing I don't like about the car is that this is not a mechanical opening this pops via a micro switch so there's no levers in here that actually actuate the lever to pull in to open the door it's actually a micro switch when you tap it up it pops it out for you kind of don't like that I like having a physical door that I could pull does feel kind of playable yeah it kind of like if you like a he's even helping us all right so what exactly are we looking at here so in here this is the the unglamorous inits we've got fuse box in here covered by this trapo this is air intake for the HVAC system fireman's Loop over here okay so we can use that to easily disconnect all the uh low and high voltage systems in the vehicle in case of an emergency and on this one I noticed that this is car uses coil suspension instead of air suspension was reason behind that was it just just sportiness Comfort I mean it's called the air right it's called the air always surprise people with coil springs right there's a few reasons a lot of people think that air suspension is the best thing in in bright quality it's not necessarily true the benefits of air suspension are primarily changing ride height and potentially changing ride frequency but with it it can bring quite a lot of friction hysteresis so your secondary ride quality that's kind of the finer texture stuff the Small Bump stuff can actually be quite degraded um because of the frictions in the system right with the coil spring you've got almost no friction historis at all so your secondary ride quality that's really important to us on the Lucid air is is really first class and the other thing is Energy Efficiency as well on an airspring car many people lower the car at freeway speeds to reduce the frontal area to reduce the the the drag force on the car because the Lucid area has such a low coefficient of drag in the first place we have a pretty small frontal area and the car is pretty low already right we don't need to and if we were having to expend energy on an air suspension system running a compressor a valve block all the other stuff compend more energy than to break yeah so more reliable every part of it more reliable great ride policy great handling very predictable this is the this is the car that won the production class of Goodwood last week MH um it cleans up real nice yeah yeah driven by Ben Collins last week two three is one of the supercars effectively uh it's definitely pretty impressive to watch it's the first time I've seen this on the hill and I've got to say it's pretty impressive the Lucid air so I wanted to show you the three Drive modes we have smooth Swift and Sprint smooth as the name suggests it prioritizes Comfort everything's smooth everything's relaxing so MH yes we do everything firms up you get you need to put in a bit more effort into your steering and brakes to allow for easier modulation you get more torque available to you the torque is thrown more more rearward mhm and our suspension control module throws more current at the dampers as well in terms of targets and what we were going for we we were given the brief the car should be extremely ly luxurious comfortable refined it should be a place people want to spend hours and cover hundreds of miles at the same time it needs to be able to hustle and handle and be fun when people want it to be so we looked at kind of the the typical benchmarks in the second for on the luxury side Mercedes S-Class has been kind of the standout winner for years so so that was clearly in our sites and then on the on the handling side we we started off looking at the Mercedes e63s AMG okay BMW 5 competition later the Cs when that came out though that's a little bit more sporty Porsche taan came out during development we've purchased most of those and have them on our Benchmark fleets and they've been really good to reference against but to be honest one of the cars that kind of kept trying to figure out how did they actually do that how are they able to get the light in there when there's no wire I thought there was a really thin wire then we realized if we pull this up yeah you get the you get the batteries battery well done it is it is it is phenomenal well f um I just I don't it reminds me of an S-Class in a lot of ways and I know that that may have been one of the target vehicles um for for potential buyers I like the S-Class I like this car but the only thing I would change about it is I would I think that the rear angle the rear quarter panel makes the car seem a little bit higher than it than it is and it makes it look a little bit less sporty that's all like I think for example I think the Tian is sporty looking it may not be the best looking car in the world but the angles the car has wide hips I like cars that have wide hips you name it the Z6 the whatever they all have wide hips look it even has a hood scoop why would an electric car need these why would it really it really is look at this it really is Stephen it's the same car see yeah a lot a lot of inspiration what do you see Lincoln MKT but I do like this design element here over on the uh on the C pillar it almost looks like the integration from the glass roof to the rear glass I like this little like helmet looking thing it's like a neat design thing um also I think this also comes in aluminium roof for for those on a budget as they say that's the pure version yeah such as myself so if I were to get one I would probably get the aluminum roof because I think it's a little cheaper you don't get as much horsepower though how much do you get you know those Wheels look that yeah this some influence there just got a turbine slant to them this some influence there but no in all this really is good looking carbo I think the side profile is definitely my favorite favorite faite the the side profile like the way you have the camera set up right here is definitely my favorite but I wish that you couldn't see this piece of glass right here you see the glass that you're seeing in the frame yep it almost makes like look like it's a little bit more box than it should be I wish it charging ports the I that said sausage at first I saw the S and the e that's a rear Sun Shade that's a sunsh you touch it ready extend rear sun shade look at that if we were to critically compare this to the the true obvious competitor of a Model S probably be PL honestly they don't want to admit that they they truly believe that the main competitor to this car is a Mercedes-Benz S-class which on paper would make sense it's in dimension wise it's about the same the interior volume feels the same but in reality unfortunately people are going to be comparing this car to a model to a top-of-the-line Model S clad over and over all all day every day the Tesla people are going to say Hey listen this is another electric car that we can hate because we love Tesla so much all the it all the controls for lights fog lights headlights are on the appropriate side that it would be in a normal car anyways you know like old square body you name it any car y most of the controls are right here for the light so you either pull to have the high beams on or you turn it left or right to increase the the brightness or dimness of the dash this is perfect at a glance ready you want your headlights on push this button you want your wipers on high low medium push this button this is a concave door and it makes it feel like the car is a lot wider than it really is this comes out at least 3 in from over here on most cars really wish they would show up better yeah yeah I know you'd have this flush you can't really see it you'd have this flush for the most part and it'd be like a very minor armrest you can actually fit your hand all the way in here it makes this car feels so spacious it's not even funny you could tell that the team that did this they had design in mind one thing I don't like about the car is that this is not a mechanical opening this pops via a micro switch so there's no levers in here that actually actuate the lever to pull in to open the door it's actually a micro switch when you tap it up it pops it out for you kind of don't like that I like having a physical door that I could pull does feel kind of playable yeah it kind of like if you like a little bit of playing that's kind of weird just tamper with it this I want to see W wo wo wo wo what are you doing to our car I I'm checking to see what's under the hood just kidding all thank you sir he's even helping us all right so what exactly are we looking at here so in here this is the the unglamorous inits we've got fuse box in here covered by this trapo this is air intake for the HVAC system fireman's Loop over here okay so we can use that to easily disconnect all the uh low and high voltage systems in the vehicle in case of an emergency and on this one I noticed that this is actually replaceable on a lot of the newer electric vehicles that's actually integrated in the wiring harness and once it's cut you have to replace the entire harness absolutely absolutely then in here we have breake fluid few of the fluid fills in there as well yeah but these are the these are the boring Parts can I tell you about the suspension so what do you specialize in at Le who are you exactly I'm uh my name is David I'm fortunate to lead the chassis and vehicle dyamics team so suspension steering brakes Wheels tires ride handling okay all the fun stuff I also noticed that uh the car uses coil suspension instead of air suspension was reason behind that was it just just sportiness Comfort I mean it's called the air right it's called the air always surprise people with coil springs right there's a few reasons a lot of people think that air suspension is the best thing in in bright quality it's not necessarily true the benefits of air suspension are primarily changing ride height and potentially changing ride frequency but with it it can bring quite a lot of friction hysteresis so your secondary ride quality that's kind of the finer texture stuff the Small Bump stuff can actually be quite degraded um because of the frictions in the system right with the coil spring you've got almost no friction historis at all so your secondary ride quality that's really important to us on the Lucid air is is really first class and the other thing is Energy Efficiency as well on an airspring car many people lower the car at freeway speeds to reduce the frontal area to reduce the the the drag force on the car because the Lucid area has such a low coefficient of drag in the first place we have a pretty small frontal area and the car is pretty low already right we don't need to and if we were having to expend energy on an air suspension system running a compressor a valve block all the other stuff compend more energy than to break yeah so more reliable every part of it more reliable great ride policy great handling very predictable this is the this is the car that won the production class of Goodwood last week MH um it cleans up real nice yeah yeah driven by Ben Collins last week two three is one of the supercars effectively uh it's definitely pretty impressive to watch it's the first time I've seen this on the hill and I've got to say it's pretty impressive the Lucid air so I wanted to show you the three Drive modes we have smooth Swift and Sprint smooth as the name suggests it prioritizes Comfort everything's smooth everything's relaxing so your suspension steering brakes and everything is just designed calibrated for easy effort as you move through Swift and then into Sprint we have to hit this disclaimer sure we really want to do this MH yes we do everything firms up you get you need to put in a bit more effort into your steering and brakes to allow for easier modulation you get more torque available to you the torque is thrown more more rearward mhm and our suspension control module throws more current at the dampers as well in terms of targets and what we were going for we we were given the brief the car should be extremely ly luxurious comfortable refined it should be a place people want to spend hours and cover hundreds of miles at the same time it needs to be able to hustle and handle and be fun when people want it to be so we looked at kind of the the typical benchmarks in the second for on the luxury side Mercedes S-Class has been kind of the standout winner for years so so that was clearly in our sites and then on the on the handling side we we started off looking at the Mercedes e63s AMG okay BMW 5 competition later the Cs when that came out though that's a little bit more sporty Porsche taan came out during development we've purchased most of those and have them on our Benchmark fleets and they've been really good to reference against but to be honest one of the cars that kind of kept coming up in conversation over and over again is the the E39 M5 really so it's doesn't someone on your team own any they own two I think it was kind of BU bias okay anyway before we start our fight I really like this car it has over 500 mil of range it handles great 0 to in under 3 seconds it's luxurious and I really really hope it does well and to those that hope it doesn't a casual reminder that
