Gionee Dream D1 In-depth Review - Geekyranjit

**The Geoni Dream D1: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse**

In this review, we'll delve into the features and performance of the Geoni Dream D1, a budget-oriented quad-core phone that promises to deliver impressive performance at an affordable price point. With a recommended retail price (MRP) of around 17,500, but available in the market for around 15,000, this phone is definitely worth considering for those looking for a reliable and feature-packed device on a shoestring budget.

**Camera Performance**

One of the standout features of the Geoni Dream D1 is its camera. The camera app is user-friendly, and the device's quad-core processor provides decent performance in low-light conditions. We tested the camera with various lighting setups and found that it produced good results, especially considering the phone's budget-friendly price point. While not the best we've seen on high-end devices, the camera on the Geoni Dream D1 is certainly respectable.

**Benchmark Scores**

To give you a better idea of the phone's performance, we ran some benchmark tests. Starting with Nina Mark 2 Benchmark, which is an important test for gaming and GPU performance, we scored 39.2 FPS, which is a very decent score. We also tested the device with various games, including high-end titles, and found that it was able to play most of them without any issues. The device's GPU, Powervr SDX 544, delivers smooth performance, making it a great option for gamers on a budget.

**System Information**

Let's take a look at the system information on the Geoni Dream D1. As expected, the phone is powered by a Mediatech chipset, which is a common platform used in many budget-oriented devices. The device features a 4-core processor with a maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz and a minimum frequency of 497 MHz. With 1 gig of RAM, multitasking on this phone is smooth and seamless.

**Sensors**

One thing that caught our attention was the abundance of sensors on the Geoni Dream D1. The device boasts most of the essential sensors, including GPS, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and more. This indicates that the manufacturer has prioritized providing a well-rounded user experience, even at a budget-friendly price point.

**Quadrant Benchmark Scores**

To give you a better idea of the phone's overall performance, we ran some Quadrant benchmark tests. The results are as follows: CPU - 8,801, Memory - 3,421, I/O - 4,836, 2D - 238, and 3D - 2341. These scores demonstrate the device's capabilities in handling various tasks with ease.

**Multi-Tasking and Apps**

We also put the Geoni Dream D1 through its paces by running multiple apps simultaneously. With 1 gig of RAM, multitasking on this phone is surprisingly smooth, despite some lag at times. We're assuming that this lag could be mitigated with a third-party launcher.

**Keyboard and UI**

The device's keyboard is user-friendly and easy to navigate, even for those who are not tech-savvy. The predictive text feature is also present and works well in both portrait and landscape orientations.

**Build Quality and Display**

The build quality of the Geoni Dream D1 is excellent, with a sturdy construction that feels premium. The Super AMOLED display, which we're not seeing on any other budget device at this price point, provides vibrant colors and a crisp visual experience.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, the Geoni Dream D1 is an impressive budget-friendly phone that delivers solid performance and features at an affordable price point. While it may not be perfect, with some minor drawbacks like the stupid skin and limited third-party developer support, this device is definitely worth considering for those looking for a reliable and feature-packed device on a shoestring budget.

**Rating**

We would rate the Geoni Dream D1 as an excellent phone, given its impressive performance, features, and build quality. At 15,000 or so, it's a steal.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is ranit from tas.com and in this video we're going to do the full review for this Geon dream D1 I've already done the unboxing for this uh phone so you can check out this video for more info and this is a what do you say flagship phone from giuni and it Sports some very good specs uh first let me talk about the screen it Sports a 4.65 in screen with a 720p HD display that means it has a resolution of 12 80 x 720 and as you can see the viewing angles Etc are very good because it's a super amulet screen and the screen is also very crisp again the screen can go very bright let me uh quickly just adjust the brightness it's an auto brightness but if I this is the max brightness and it can get really bright the camera can't capture it but uh it does become pretty bright I would say also if you notice uh it does not have any physical buttons for navigation it's like the Nexus devices we have the back button this is the home and this is the multitasking tray but again the interface is not stock uh Geon has modified it as you can see we can add up to nine home screens if required and also we do get this quick toggles again I would say the skin is not that great and I do occasionally see lags I won't blame the what do you say the processor on this because it's a 1.2 GHz quadco processor it's the same mediatech chipset that we are finding in other budget oriented quadcore Android phones like like the canvas HD and the Zolo q800 and also the GPU is the power VR sdx 544 and it has 1 gigs of RAM so in terms of configuration uh it's pretty good also the front-facing camera is a 1 map uh shooter and the rear facing camera is a 8 mapix shooter with LED flash I would also say that the camera performance is pretty good I have made a separate dedicated video regarding the camera performance so you can check out that video for more info let me talk now first about the physical uh overview and on the top we have this uh uh micro USB slot and on this end we have the volume rocker nothing else on this uh side and on the bottom we have the microphone and the 3.5mm headphone jack is at the bottom if we move to this side again we just have the power onoff button on the front you'll just find a slab of glass there's no branding so the phone looks very sleek and we have the 1 mapix front- facing camera and we have this nice your piece grid and we have all the sensors like proximity sensors ambient light sensor and again we don't have any physical buttons again as I said because the screen is super amulet it's really nice to look at and let's look at the Android version that comes with it comes with the Android version 4.1.2 that is Jelly Bean and uh we can just lock it like this and we can just directly go to Google now also like this as it's Jelly Bean Google Now supported coming to the voice quality the voice quality on this phone was very good I have no problems regarding the same also the speaker phone is over here and it's adequately loud in terms of look also it's very sleek and it's a very slim phone actually and it reminds me of the original Galaxy S2 though even though the screen is 4.65 in it is very comfortable to hold coming to the battery here I have some negative aspects uh though the back cover can be opened like this for example let me show you you can pry open this back cover and ji provides us two more back covers as you can see the battery is a 2100 mamp battery but sadly this battery is not removable so it is like I don't know what was the design aspect though they have provided this back cover but the battery is nonuser replaceable uh again the as this is a dual SIM we can add one sim the 3G Sim goes here and the standard GSM Sim goes over here and we can also add a Micro SD card as of now Juni is pre-b bundling 16 GB of micro SD card with this phone again as you can see the back cover is like we have seen in Samsung phones it's pretty thin and overall I would say the phone is pretty light to hold and comfortable let me put back this back cover now and in terms of build quality I have no problems with this phone the phone feels very nicely built and there is no creaking noise or or anything like that so in regards of to build quality I have no problems with the phone uh as the batter is a 21100 mamp battery I would say uh with medium usage it was I was able to last it one working day nothing spectacular and nothing bad I would say and let me also show you the storage first uh if you go to the storage oops uh as with all budget oriented fold it's divided two parts the internal storage and the phone storage but you can just click this preferred location and change the storage to SD card and I suggest that you do that and uh the good thing is that you can just uh install app like apps to SD and thereby move most of the apps to the SD card hence uh even I was able to install heavy games for example aspal 7 Etc on this phone without any issues you can check out the gaming review for more info but overall uh this phone does allow you to move most of the apps to the SD card so storage should not be a problem with this phone now we are connected to our Wi-Fi so let's uh switch on the browser the default browser is the secure browser but we're going to test it with chrome I downloaded this from the Android market and let me adjust the brightness first and let's quickly just go to our what do you say uh website that's te tobas again the keyboard is uh really comfortable to type so you shouldn't have any problems and this is the first time we going to go to our website that's te2 bus on this Chrome browser so let's look at this loading speed 1 2 and 3 again as you can see it loaded the site pretty quickly I would say no issues and let's try the pinch to zoom gesture again that's also very good as you can see pinch to zoom gesture is nice let's open up one of the stories and we have YouTube videos that are embed on this web page let's change the orientation again as you can see that was also very quick and let's try to play back this video that's embedded on this web page hi there this is R let me the volum and in this video we're going to compare the two hottest Android phones by Sony the Sony xeria Z and the Zer both the phones are very similar in terms of specs so as you can see it can play back uh videos that are embedded without any issues and also the speaker phone I would say is pretty adequately loud and very clear so you shouldn't have any problems playing back music and videos on this uh phone so let's also try another web page for example let's uh one second let me just uh uh check and force the desktop view and let's go to uh website for example news.com this is a heavy site and let's see how well this phone manages that on the Chrome browser again as you can see it's loading at pretty fast I would say no issues and again pinch to zoom guesture is really good scrolling is also very smooth let's open up the story again I would say you won't have any problems with the regarding web browsing on this geoni phone so let me get out of that also in terms of what do you say media playback I had very good experience and let me show you the same I have these two videos this is a 720p uh video clip and I'm going to start over let me lower the volume it's going to be pretty loud otherwise and just notice the black levels because of the super amulet screen uh it's very clear and I would say it'll be a joy to watch videos on this screen because of the super amulet screen and also it can play back content like 720p content without any issues it can also even play back 1080p content this is a 1080p video and as you can see It'll play it back without any issues and it doesn't even skip any frames this is high bit rate uh video then also it can play it back without any issue so in terms of video playb you should not have any problems with this phone it's excellent for video playback also I could play back what do you say uh uh YouTube uh videos without any issues using the YouTube player so so overall in media playback you shouldn't have any problems with this one now coming to the camera the camera is a 8 megap shooter let me quickly show you the same the interface directly from this screen you can switch to what do you say the if you click this it takes a photograph and if you click this it can directly take a video let me just quickly set this to Auto and let's just you can just tap to an area to quickly focus and it quickly takes a snap actually there's almost no shuttle act I have done it dedicated what do you say uh video regarding the camera performance so you can check out that video for more info but overall I would say the camera is pretty decent I would say pretty nice for 8 megapix shooter but again in low lighting conditions and IND doors uh the photographs sometimes come out to be grainy but overall considering the price point of this phone I would say the camera is very decent and now let me show you some of the benchmarks we'll start with Nina Mark two Benchmark that is important for gaming and this test the GPU and as you can see I tested it and we getting a score of 39.2 FPS which is a very decent score and the GPU provided on this phone is a powervr sdx 544 and as I said I also tested it with a lot of games and even highend games and it was able to play most of the games without any issues I've made a dedicated video regarding the gaming so you can check out this video for more info regarding gaming performance of this phone I've also let me also now show you the quadrant and let's uh let me show you the system information and as you can see uh it's known as the dream D1 Geon and uh the maximum frequency it supports is 1.2 GHz the lowest is 497 MHz and it's a 4 core processor and it's the mediatech chipset that we are seeing as I told in most of these budget oriented quad core phones also the memory is 1 gig and again let's see the sensors and as you can see Geon did not skimp on the sensors and it has provided most of the important sensors that are needed now let me show you the what do you say quadrant benchmark scores I've saved it and as you can see our device got a score of 3,927 again I would say that's a very decent score and this is the same score that we are seeing in budget oriented quadcore phones for example uh canvas HD Etc let me give you a breakup the total is 3927 out of that the CPU got a score of 8,801 memory is 3421 I/O is 4,836 2D is 238 and 3D is 2341 I also Run The at& Benchmark so let me show you the scores and we got a score of 12,384 and this is the breakup so again very respectable benchmark scores considering the price point at which this phone sells in India the geoni is scorting an MRP of around 17,500 but you should be able to get this phone in the market for around 15,000 or so and uh uh let me also show you the multi-touch points uh for example let me first show you the compass app and as I told you uh Geon did not skip on the sensors and this compass app works fine on this phone also let me uh one second show you the multi-touch points and it has five multi touch points as you can oops I invoke Google Now by mistake and as you can see it supports Five multitouch Points so again that's also decent also as I said Google now works and again it has 1 gig of RAM and even uh I would say multitasking is pretty smooth on this phone let me kill all these apps now that are running and let me show you the Android system info and uh if you look at the free Ram it's 590 MB which is excellent and I would say I could easily do multitasking without any issues on the phone yes there is some lag at times and I said that's due to the stupid skin that Juni has put in I think if you install a third party launcher you that lag should not be visible also let me show you the keyboard quickly and uh as I told you it is uh very easy to type and this is the standard uh keyboard that we get and we do get this predictive text at the top and you can also move it in this orientation and it also works so again uh pretty nice I would say so how do I rate this uh geoni dream 1 uh phone from Geon I would say it's a excellent pH the build quality is really good I would say and the super amlet screen at this price point we are not seeing a 720p Super amet Screen so the screen quality is also very good again this is the first Geon phone in India Geon is actually a very big uh company in uh China and this is their first debut I'm sure that they be launching some other models of their phones also but overall I'm very impressed with this geoni phone the things that I don't like is that stupid skin that Juni has put it lags at times also uh third party developer support is really limited as of now and I would say that if your budget is around 15,000 or so you can have a look at this phone overall uh I would say the phone was very good and again it's a very slim and a Sleek phone I hope you found this video review helpful that's it for now this is ranit from tech.com and I hope to see you in my next videohi there this is ranit
