How To Replace The Cabin Air Filter In A Subaru (Impreza, WRX, STI, Forester, Outback)
**Replacing the Cabin Air Filter in Your Subaru**
Replacing the cabin air filter in your Subaru is a relatively simple process that can help improve the quality of the air inside your vehicle. The process is very similar for many Subarus, so regardless of your make and model, this guide should provide you with a clear understanding of how to do it yourself.
I recently had the opportunity to learn how to replace the cabin air filter in my Subaru STI at a local dealership. The recommended price for the new filter was $50, but I was able to purchase it online for $21, which is an easy way to save $30. This project requires no tools and can be completed by anyone with basic mechanical skills.
To start, you will need to open up your glove box to access the cabin air filter. Once you have opened the glove box, you will see a damper that needs to be disconnected so that it can fold down all the way. There are two stops on either side of the damper, which you need to squeeze in order to pull the stop out from behind and lower the damper down.
As you continue with the process, you may need to wrestle with the glove box a little bit to get it open completely. However, this is not a difficult task and can be done without any tools or specialized equipment. Once you have both sides of the damper disconnected, you can pull the damper down and then remove the glove box from its hinges.
With the glove box removed, you will see the old cabin air filter in place. The new filter should be identical to the old one, which is why it's so important to purchase a genuine Subaru part. The old filter was looking a bit dirty with 13,000 miles on it, but once you have replaced it, the glove box can be put back together and everything should be good to go.
To complete the process, simply slide the new filter into place, put the glove box back onto its hinges, and push it back up into position. Make sure that the damper is securely reconnected before closing everything up again. If you have any questions or comments about this project, please feel free to leave them below.
**Changing the Engine Air Filter in Your Subaru**
In addition to replacing the cabin air filter, I also recently learned how to change the engine air filter in my Subaru. This process is very similar for many Subarus and can be completed by anyone with basic mechanical skills.
The first step in changing the engine air filter is to locate it. The location of the engine air filter varies depending on your make and model of Subaru, but for a 2014 STI like mine, it's located on the driver's side of the engine compartment.
Once you have found the engine air filter, you will need to remove it from its housing. This can be done by pulling the old filter out of its slot or by removing the screws that hold it in place. Depending on your specific Subaru model, you may also need to disconnect any electrical connections or vacuum hoses that are connected to the new filter.
With the old filter removed, you will see a clean and dry air filter housing. Now is the time to install the new filter, making sure that it's properly seated in its slot and that all screws or clips are securely fastened. It's also a good idea to check the air filter housing for any dust or debris before closing everything up again.
In most cases, changing the engine air filter does not require any tools, but if you do need to use some specialized equipment, it should be included with your Subaru owner's manual. If you have any questions or comments about this project, please feel free to leave them below.
**Conclusion**
Replacing the cabin air filter and engine air filter in your Subaru is a simple process that can help improve the quality of the air inside your vehicle. By following these steps, you should be able to complete both tasks with ease and at a fraction of the cost of taking them to a mechanic. Remember to always use genuine Subaru parts when replacing any filters or other components to ensure optimal performance and safety.
