DIY Fringe Canopy - HGTV Handmade

Hey Everyone: Welcome to HGv Handmade

Hey everyone and welcome back to HGV handmade. I'm Meg, and I invite you today into my bedroom for our very first little DIY sleepover party. But instead of sitting around and talking about makeup and boys, we're going to talk about cool projects and tools and things that we can make because we are independent awesome women and gay men.

I found this really pretty 6-in fringe at the craft store, and I just thought that would be a really cool ethereal bed canopy. So in a really super simple project, we're going to transform the simple bed into a statement piece. I'm using a staple gun because it makes the most minuscule holes possible, but if you want to go for a more fancy schmancy look, you can find some really pretty brass tacks to use instead.

First Cut Your Fringe Pieces

A standard queen-sized bed measures 7 ft by 57 in, and I added space for scallops so I have two pieces of fringe that are 8 ft long and two pieces that are 65 in long. Adjust for your bed size and for the depth you want in your scallops, you'll be working directly above the perimeter of your mattress. Take your first piece of fringe and fold it over a/4 of an inch to create a clean edge. Place that folded piece on the ceiling right above the mattress corner.

Stapling the Fringe

Take your staple gun and put it flush up against the fringe, fold carefully removing your fingers. Add one staple or two if you have heavier fringe. Take the end of that first piece of fringe and pull it across to the foot of the bed, make sure the trim is all straight and there are no twists and turns. Put the end of the fringe directly above the bottom corner of the bed attach it to the ceiling, the same way you did the first.

Connecting the Scallop Pieces

Hey there Gracie, measure out from your first staple to locate the center of the ceiling line mine is 3 and 1/2 ft over. Pull the fringe directly up to that point and staple it in place one down three to go. Repeat the same steps for the second piece on the opposite side of the bed for the foot and head of the bed connect the two scalloped fringe lines that you just created with your smaller fringe piece, just be sure to have your pieces flush up against each other at a 90° angle and keep your corners as clean as possible.

Repeat for the last piece.
