Who is Bixby We went to South Korea to meet Samsung's new A.I.
It's Monday, March 20th, and We're Counting Down to Samsung Galaxy S8 Reveal
We're just a few days away from the official reveal on March 29th of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus, probably the most leaked about cell phone since well ever. However, less is known about Bixby, the digital AI assistant that Samsung will introduce and they say will be an integral part of the S8 experience. This feature is so crucial and different that it's going to differentiate it from what is suddenly becoming a crowded Market of high-end phones with AI helpers inside.
Samsung Hopes Bixby Will Differentiate It
The folks at DT are excited to get more information about Bixby, and they're counting on their editor-in-chief, Jeremy Kaplan, to share his insights. Jeremy flew to Digital City in South Korea to talk with Ang Jong, the head of R&D at Samsung Mobile, about what makes Bixby so different. According to Jeremy, one thing that sets Bixby apart from other digital assistants like Siri and Cortana is that it won't be focused on getting weather reports or telling bad jokes. Instead, Bixby will focus on helping users use the Galaxy S8 to its full potential.
Smartphones Are Complex
Let's face it, smartphones are incredibly complex devices, and we typically only use a fraction of their vast capabilities. Jeremy notes that this is exactly why Bixby is going to be so important - to help us get more out of our phones. And like Siri and Cortana, Bixby will be driven by spoken language, which is still a challenging technological feat. However, with the right technology in place, Bixby has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with our devices.
Apple's Foray into AR
In other news, Apple has been making big strides in augmented reality (AR) technology. According to Bloomberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that smartphones are the better vehicle for easing consumers into using AR, rather than fancy headsets or glasses. And it's not hard to see why - Pokémon Go, an AR game that was released last year, shook the tech industry and society in general. The game was a huge success, and it showed that people were ready for immersive gaming experiences.
Smartphones Can Enable AR
The success of Pokémon Go highlights just how much potential smartphones have for enabling AR experiences. And with Apple's focus on developing their AR technology, it's clear that they're committed to making this vision a reality. DT will be keeping an eye on Apple's progress and sharing all the latest news and updates as they become available.
Mass Effect Andromeda Release
Finally, resting up for the big release of Mass Effect: Andromeda tomorrow is the perfect excuse to talk about one of the most anticipated games of the year. According to game reviewer Phil Hornshaw, who has been playing an early copy of the game, it's a must-play experience that offers top-level gameplay and a colorful galaxy full of adventure. If you're as excited about the game as we are, make sure to check out Phil's review at the link he provided.
