The New Year: A Fresh Start to Get You Moving
As we welcome a new year, it's the perfect opportunity to get a fresh start on our entire lives. But if that sounds overwhelming, why not take things one step at a time? For those who are trying to get into exercising, adding a pop of color and personality to their shoes can be a great way to motivate themselves. One simple yet effective way to do this is by creating your own DIY rainbow shoelaces.
Lace Up with a Life Hack
Before we start our crafting journey, it's essential to tackle one quick life hack that will make the rest of the process easier. If your shoelaces are all creased and messy looking from being in your shoes for too long, you can actually iron them out with a hair straightener. This is a simple yet effective way to restore your shoelaces to their former glory, making it easier to work with them for our DIY project.
Preparing the Workspace
Once your shoelaces are ready to go, lay down some sort of plastic drop cloth to protect your workspace from any ink spills or stains. For this project, I'm using a trash bag as my drop cloth. Now that we have everything set up, it's time to gather our materials. We'll need markers and rubbing alcohol that you've put into a spray bottle.
Creating the Rainbow Effect
Now it's time to bring our rainbow shoelaces to life! To create this effect, we'll use markers to draw our design onto the shoelaces. For my first attempt, I did a random tie-dye pattern which came out quite well. However, for my second attempt, I decided to go all out with a rainbow of colors and colored about an inch at a time onto the shoelaces. It's essential to make sure that you're flipping them over and doing both sides as you go, and try to saturate the shoelaces with as much ink as possible.
Spraying for Perfection
Once we've completed our initial section, it's time to spray some rubbing alcohol onto the shoelaces. This will help spread out the ink and create a beautiful blend of colors. Make sure to flip the shoelaces over and saturate both sides before spraying with the rubbing alcohol. Don't worry about getting into every last spot, as this is where the magic happens. Just like before, once you've done a section just like before, spray it with rubbing alcohol making sure to flip it over and saturating both sides.
Drying Time
Once we've sprayed our second layer of ink onto the shoelaces, let them dry completely for at least an hour. This will allow the colors to set and blend together beautifully. While we wait for the shoelaces to dry, you can start thinking about your next step. Do you want to add more design elements or leave it as is?
The Final Result
Once our shoelaces are completely dry, we can see how the colors have blended together to create a beautiful DIY rainbow shoelace. I love these so much that I think they're really unique and I think they look great on black sneakers where the colors can really pop. This is a quick and easy DIY that will be fun to do with a friend. You could each come up with your own designs, maybe even doing your school colors.
Revamping Your Look
The best part about these DIY rainbow shoelaces is that they're incredibly inexpensive. With only a couple of dollars spent on materials, you can revamp your look without breaking the bank. Whether you're looking to upgrade your everyday sneakers or dress up your running shoes, these colorful laces are sure to make a statement.
