Apple Got It Right - iPad Pro Final Review

The iPad Pro: A Game-Changer for Productivity and Creativity

I've had my iPad Pro for a year now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for me. When it was first released, I was excited to see how Apple would utilize the USB-C port on the iPad Pro. One of the main reasons I wanted an iPad Pro was that I wanted to be able to plug in one cable or one power brick and do everything I needed to do. With the iPad Pro's USB-C port, I finally have that convenience. It makes it so much easier to travel with my tablet, as I no longer need to carry multiple cables or accessories.

The use of a single cable for charging and data transfer has also made a big difference in my daily life. No longer do I have to worry about carrying around separate power bricks or adapters. The iPad Pro's USB-C port is fast and reliable, making it perfect for charging my tablet on the go. And with the ability to plug in a single cable that can handle both data transfer and charging, I've found that I'm actually saving more space in my bag than before.

But what really gets me excited about the iPad Pro's USB-C port is the potential it has for future innovation. With the advent of new technologies like Thunderbolt 3, we're seeing the capabilities of the USB-C port expand far beyond just charging and data transfer. We can expect to see even faster speeds, higher resolutions, and more advanced features in the future.

In comparison to other tablets on the market, I've found that the iPad Pro has been a revelation. While some may argue that it's still just a tablet, I believe that this device has truly carved out its own niche as a mobile computer. With its powerful A12X Bionic chip and 6GB of RAM, the iPad Pro can handle even the most demanding tasks with ease.

One area where the iPad Pro really shines is in its ability to multitask. The introduction of desktop Safari on iOS has been a major game-changer for me, as it's allowed me to access a range of features that were previously only available on desktop computers. With desktop Safari, I can now check YouTube analytics in real-time, access my email inbox without having to leave the app, and even watch videos with the ability to pause or rewind at will.

Of course, no device is perfect, and the iPad Pro has its own set of quirks and limitations. One area where it falls short is in its home screen functionality. While the new layout has improved significantly from previous versions of iOS, there are still some features that I miss, such as the ability to move icons around freely or access a wider range of widgets.

Despite these limitations, however, I've found that the iPad Pro has made my workflow so much more efficient and enjoyable. The introduction of multitasking capabilities has allowed me to work on multiple projects simultaneously without having to constantly switch between apps. And with the addition of features like Split View and Slide Over, I can now access a range of tools and resources at my fingertips.

Another area where the iPad Pro has really impressed me is in its ability to blur the lines between tablet and computer. With the introduction of support for external displays and keyboards, it's become even easier to use the iPad Pro as a mobile workstation. And with the growing number of third-party apps available specifically designed for the iPad Pro, I'm finding that I can get more done on this device than ever before.

One of the most exciting developments in recent months has been the growth of creative apps and tools specifically designed for the iPad Pro. From Adobe Photoshop to iMovie, we're seeing a whole new range of possibilities emerge as developers take advantage of the iPad's capabilities. And with the ability to edit videos, create documents, and manage spreadsheets all on the device itself, I'm finding that I'm using my computer at home less and less.

The Apple commercial featuring a little girl asking "what's a computer?" has struck a chord with me. For years, we've been conditioned to think of computers as these clunky, inflexible devices that are only useful for specific tasks. But the iPad Pro is changing all that. It's showing us that a device can be both portable and powerful, flexible and accessible.

As I look to the future, I'm excited to see where the iPad Pro will go from here. With its clear path forward and continued innovation, I have no doubt that this device will continue to evolve and improve over time. Whether it's with new features, capabilities, or hardware upgrades, one thing is certain: the iPad Pro has truly become a mobile computer in its own right.

phone and computer is what the iPad was made for and when the first iPad pro has announced that initial vision didn't make sense it was a giant screen at the blown up phone operating system that wasn't in the middle of anything but enter the current generation iPad pro been out for a year apples vision for what that product can be it's finally coming into focus so before the second generation iPad pro came out now a year ago pretty much every iPad in 2010 up until last year looked identical and that made this generation iPad pro seem so different than the previous generations it was a completely new design have thin bezels it felt premium I think it's one of the best-looking Apple products they've ever made so I love the way the iPad pro feels in the hands sometimes I take that out of the case just to hold it I think it feels really good it was plagued just some bending issues I haven't had any of those problems when we films our Apple alternate history video and we had the iPad up on the pedestal it wasn't in a case and it got kind of bumped and it fell and my heart sank with it and all I had was a tiny little scratch in the upper corner and that's been my only experience with dropping the iPad but for that experience it does seem pretty durable obviously the iPad is more than sum of its parts but those parts are still very impressive but not perfect I love having face ID on everything I say face ID all the things I know that I'm in the minority here but my experience with face ID on the iPad pro has been significantly worse than I experienced on face ID on the iPhone really since any generation that has had it going back to the iPhone 10 when I'm in bed washing an etic doesn't often work or I gotta sort of hold it up or luck and try to unlock it a few different times usually I end up just putting in the passcode so that's been a Miss for me and I've talked a lot about how much I like higher refresh rates on on phones after using the iPad pro the 120 Hertz refresh rate honestly I don't notice it anymore it's a really good screen I don't take it outside nearly as often as I would like a phone but I'm trying to watch your movies on an airplane usually got to turn the brightness all the way up once I do you can see from everything I take it with me when I come to the studio here to film it's how I review scripts and edit notes and I'm now I start using the Apple pencil more to edit and I'll take notes to go through and know what I want to say on these videos I have really used the Apple pencil before really had much of a need for it and what I'm sitting at home working on the weekends I'll alternate between putting on the keyboard case taking that keyboard case off and it's been really helpful and useful to have I have really loved having USBC on the iPad pro and comes back to convenience when I travel I can generally carry just one cable or one power brick I can plug in USB type-c thumb drives I can just do everything that I would want to do I can plug in monitors an USB type-c it doesn't really give me that much more than what lightning did but it has made things a lot easier it makes less bulk when I travel and one cable to do everything has been nice and it makes me excited for USBC coming to the iPhone every time I got to plug in a lightning cable into my iPhone it can't help but feel a little bit annoyed so while the hardware on the iPad have always been good it's kind of been software that's been holding it back really nice physical devices but just using a phone operating system but now we've got iPad OS on this hardware that's really premium but a year old and with iPad OS we finally have a path forward for the iPad so you think about the iPad probe being out for a year iPad OS has only been out for like two and a half months so it's still a very new experience and it's brought with it on the software side a lot of things that have improved my iPad usage and I sort of made it more of a computer and less of just a media consumption tablet so desktop Safari has been absolutely amazing and I know that you can use other browsers in desktop mode but desktop Safari has been absolutely perfect and I should preface it with I don't use Safari or for anything else I'm generally a chrome user but being able to have that disappearance for the YouTube studio has been almost worked changing I can now check analytics in real time I can check stats I can do things that I couldn't do through the dedicated Studio app they would have to go to a computer for so I've really liked having that there's been some other use cases but for me the YouTube studio has been huge on the iPad and if there's one area on iPad software that was in desperate need for an update it was a home screen and it got like a tiny tiny little one you've got some more icons there you kind of widgets on the home screen it's still missing a ton of stuff that it needs then you want to move icons anywhere you want would be huge but also brought things like improve multitasking so that's been nice to have things split-screen have sort of apps almost floating on the side I use that a lot oftentimes I'll watch YouTube videos and have my email up on the side it's been nice to have well those things have been really good the welcome additions and have helped my workflow it's certainly not been bug free I have weird screen rotation issues where the screen will rotate if I'm not moving it and the dock will stay in one spot I had a stop using the mail app that ships with iPad OS because it just didn't work it wouldn't pull a new mail for me I keep having to pull it down to refresh and just wasn't working so things like that have made it less than a perfect experience let's say but as far as software can go still been - awesome and as the iPad kind of finds its own way more developer to taking notes we now have like actual Photoshop for the iPad you can edit videos with iMovie or luma fusion built-in if we're going to change your workflow to change how you work you can get most things done on an iPad pro I think that's been the most pleasant surprise when Apple launched their commercial with a little girl saying what's a computer I think everybody kind of cringed not it was a tablet it was a big iPhone it was great for watching movies on an airplane but not much else but now it's good for a lot else I find myself editing all of my documents on this creating documents on it managing my spreadsheets for the business all on the iPad pro and when I come to the studio I don't bring my laptop with me anymore and that's a new experience I find myself using my computer at home less and less because I can do more and more with the iPad and it's funny how the iPad is kind of becoming more of a computer being able to use a mouse and a keyboard the hallmarks of a desktop PC brought that something that's mobile has even made it more so of an easy transition now iPad OS is certainly not perfect but what I like about iPad OS as it is is now there's a clear path for the iPad to get better it's not stuck and married to what's on the current generation iPhone on a longer larger screen I imagine generation of our generation will see a divergence on what iPad OS does versus what iOS is going to do and I love that there's a way forward for the iPad pro that gets or blaze its own path and maybe we're Q or 3 or even more generations away from getting it's that ultimate mobile computer tablet Hybrid but we are right now still very impressiveand the question
