The Most Annoying Protagonist I've Ever Read: A Personal Review of the Book Series
I must say, I was thoroughly unimpressed with the protagonist of this book series. She was so wishy-washy and indecisive that it was like watching a rollercoaster in slow motion. I found myself constantly exasperated by her inability to make up her mind. It was like, "Girl, make a decision already!" But no, she just wouldn't commit.
Fortunately, this review will contain spoilers for those who haven't read the series yet and might be interested. So, if you're sensitive about spoilers, please consider muting your screen until I give you permission to continue. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get into the nitty-gritty.
This book takes place in America and is set with Prince (also known as Prince Harry) who is a prominent figure in British royal family news. The story follows his daughter's journey through a similar selection process to The Bachelorette. For those unfamiliar with this reality TV show, imagine a dating series where contestants compete for the affections of a single person. If you're not into that type of thing, then this might not be the book for you.
On the other hand, if you enjoy this sort of show and are curious about how it would translate to literature, then this might be up your alley. The author has done a great job in capturing the essence of reality TV without being too cheesy or over-the-top. I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe, her daughter won't be as annoying as she is because, let's face it, that was my biggest pet peeve about the main character.
Moving on to something more positive, I want to talk about Katie McGarry and her writing style. She has written several series, including "Pushing the Limit" and "Thunder Road", both of which are contemporary novels that don't require you to read them in order or follow a specific storyline. This made it easy for me to jump into this new series without feeling lost.
The story follows Emily, who finally meets her biological father after years of not knowing him. Her biological father is part of a motorcycle club called the Rain of Terror, and she's curious about his world and wants to learn more about him because, let's face it, he's her biological father. When Oz joins their ranks, things get interesting. He's trying to prove himself as a member of the group, but Emily's presence complicates things.
One thing that drew me in was the motorcycle club aspect. I've never really read a book about this subculture before, and it piqued my interest. Katie McGarry's writing is engaging and easy to follow, making it hard not to get caught up in the story. I also loved the "bad boy" vibe that Oz embodies – there's something undeniably appealing about characters who live outside the norms.
I must mention that Isaiah, a character from another series by Katie McGarry, also made an appearance in this book. If you haven't read her other books, particularly "Crash Into You", which is part of the Pushing the Limit series, I highly recommend checking it out. It's one of my favorite books by her.
Finally, I want to talk about the covers. Oh. My. Gosh. They are absolutely stunning! The author has done a great job in creating eye-catching art that will make you pick up the book and read it immediately.
And finally, onto something completely different – contemporary fever is happening on this channel right now!
For those who might be interested, I've recently ordered another book titled "One Last Time" by Mr. Kate, a YouTuber known for her fashion sense and DIY skills. While I don't know much about the story yet, I'm excited to dive into it as soon as possible.
If you have any thoughts or recommendations on books that might interest me, please feel free to share them in the comments below. Thank you so much for watching, and I'll catch you all later!
