12-inch Retina MacBook Air - What Do You Think

The New MacBook Air: What to Expect and How It Will Impact the Industry

One thing that this MacBook Air may not have is a fan, it may just be a regular air cooled system so it can operate more quietly. This may be possible with low power Intel Core M processors, so Intel's next generation of chips will most likely be in this line of Apple notebooks as well. There was also word that the trackpad won't have a mechanical button anymore, instead, in addition to all the multi-touch capabilities it currently has, the multi-touch sensors will be able to determine whether the user presses the trackpad surface or just performs a tap. This is similar to how the Apple Watch Works.

One of the biggest pieces of news is that the new MacBook Air is going to use USB type-C. USB type-c has a completely different design it is similar to what Apple has been using in lightning for their mobile products. It is a reversible Port so you can plug a cable in in either orientation. Rumor has it that this may also be the way the computer is charged, there may not be Mag Safe anymore. So in addition to using USB type-c for peripherals, charge in may be performed through the same type of interface.

My Perspective on the Machine Overall

I think this is going to be a great seller. Portable compact notebooks really sell a lot, and I believe Apple's MacBook Air is their most frequently sold machine. Don't quote me on that but people really like having a powerful productive laptop in a portable fashion it makes Mobility easier and adding features like a retina display just makes it that much better to have. Taking out the fans is great too because then it's kind of like an iPad, it operates silently, it's very nice.

My Concerns

My concerns come down to the ports. I think USB type-C is most likely going to be the way of the future for a universal serial bus. However, there's going to be that transition period. I don't know you may need adapters for hardware and other peripherals right now if you have components that use older USB connections you won't be able to plug them right into the MacBook Air you may need a dongle. And you'll most likely see a dongle from Apple, but we need type-C it's got to be the way we move here to keep the products thinner.

There's also word of no SD card slot being on the MacBook Air anymore either. Now I don't know if this will apply to all the models, I don't know if Apple's even going to have different screen sizes anymore but just to let you know that may not be on there. I wouldn't be a huge fan of that cuz I love having an SD card reader but I do more professional work so I have a MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air it may not be needed and last for USB type-c.

The Transition to New Ports

I don't know if I would want my computer charging off of that because I really do like Mag Safe, it really keeps the hardware safer. The way the magnet just holds the cable on is really safe in case the cord gets stuck on something or someone trips over it I'm not sure if that's how it will work for a physical plug but maybe USB type-C will be really easy to have itself eject if someone trips over the cable or something, just so the cable pops out and it doesn't drag your computer off the table or something.

Discussion

I want to hear what you have to think about this new MacBook Air. Let's get a discussion going. What do you like? What don't you like? Do you think these concepts are great? What else do you think we'll be hearing about this computer? Also, let's talk about estimates on price because I don't know what it may cost. I know we'll probably see this in mid 2015 but I don't know what the cost will be.

Conclusion

It's time for an update and I'm excited to see this especially if it comes in multiple colors because oh man space gray, I'm all for that. Let me know what you think.

three Apple classic colors silver gold and space gray similar to the iPads and iPhones one thing that this MacBook Air may not have is a fan it may just be a regular air cooled system so it can
