Fake Dating and Love Triangle Tropes: Book Recommendations
As someone who has experienced fake dating firsthand and has explored the complexities of love triangles, I wanted to share some book recommendations that feature these tropes. Fake dating is still one of my favorite tropes, and it's amazing how much joy it can bring to a story.
One of my favorite books about fake dating is "The Love Letter" by Jenny Han. However, this isn't the only reason why I think this book is worth reading. It also features a love triangle, which is not typically something I enjoy in romance novels. But there's something special about this one that worked for me. Each relationship in the love triangle is equally as adorable, and it's hard to pick just one favorite. In fact, I found myself being happy with either way that the story could have unfolded.
If you're still a fan of love triangles, "The Love Letter" by Jenny Han is definitely a great choice. And if you're looking for another book with a similar theme, I highly recommend "Loveboat Taipei" by Abigail Heng. This novel features a love triangle that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and it's not hard to see why it's one of my favorite love triangles.
However, there's another trope that I want to talk about - enemies-to-lovers or hate-to-love relationships. While I don't always enjoy this trope, I have to admit that it can be done well. One book that features this trope is "Paris Is Always a Good Idea" by Jen McKinley. This novel follows a young woman who sets out on a journey around Europe, hoping to rekindle romance with her old ex-boyfriends. But instead, she finds herself falling for someone unexpected - and it's not love at first sight.
What I think makes this trope work is when the hatred or animosity between the characters is more playful than bitter. For some reason, "Paris Is Always a Good Idea" really got me hooked on this trope. It's clear that the author took the time to develop the characters' relationships and make them believable, which makes all the difference.
Finally, there's another trope that I want to talk about - forbidden love. While not always easy to read, I've found that this trope can be incredibly compelling when done right. One book that features forbidden love is "Red, White & Royal Blue" by Casey McQuiston. This novel tells the story of two young adults from different worlds who find themselves falling in love despite being from families with deep-seated animosity towards each other.
For one reason or another, their romance is forced to stay under wraps due to societal expectations and prejudices. But as they navigate their feelings for each other, they must confront the obstacles that stand between them - and fight to be together.
If you're looking for more books like "Red, White & Royal Blue", I highly recommend adding this one to your reading list. It's a beautiful, heartwarming love story that will leave you feeling all the feels.
Recommendation Videos
I know that some of my viewers are still eager for specific trope recommendations videos. That's exactly what I'll be focusing on in my next video! If there's a particular trope or theme you'd like to see explored, please let me know and I'll do my best to create content around it.
Ultimately, I'm always looking for new books to read that feature the tropes I love - and I hope that by sharing some of these recommendations with you, I can help make your reading experience even more enjoyable.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eneveryone it's hailey and today i'm going to be recommending some books based on popular tropes so if you aren't familiar with what a trope is a trope is essentially like something that you'll see commonly in books kind of like a cliche it's not necessarily a bad thing like i have some tropes that i really enjoy and knowing what tropes books are can kind of help me pick because like personally i enjoy second chance romance so i will go for books that have that sort of trope so i'm going to be covering six different notes seven different tropes today and recommending one book for each but i think in the future i might also do like a specific trope recommendations video so like a recommendations video for enemies to lovers recommendations video for fake dating so let me know if you would be interested in that down below but i wanted to start off a little bit easier and just talk about one book for every trope so i've got a good stack here and i'm super excited to share them with you guys so without further ado let's just get into it so i'm just popping in here after my move to thank the sponsor for today's video native deodorant so i have partnered with them multiple times in the past and it is always a pleasure i love working with them because i really love their products they have products that work and will make you feel good and they're also good for you so it's a win-win all around just in case you guys aren't familiar with native deodorant so these are vegan and cruelty free and they are also aluminum free paraben free and sulfate free so obviously during the summer you know you want a good deodorant and this is somewhere where you can't go wrong it dries fast it's not sticky at all not uncomfortable like i'm really picky with that sort of thing so i really love these so i have three scents here and i have tried quite a few scents and i have never been disappointed with these scents either so here i have coconut and vanilla and then next i have citrus and herbal musk and then finally i have cucumber and mint and all of them smell so good i just like to kind of change it up depending on my mood which is always fun i especially feel like i love all of these scents for summertime because like i feel like citrus kind of feels a little bit tropical the coconut also feels tropical but in like a different way and then the cucumber just feels fresh and clean which is really nice for summertime native also carries more than just deodorant they have toothpaste which we have pretty much used i think all if not almost all of the tubes that we have and they also have body wash which smells amazing as well with this month being pride month it's so nice to hear that native is actually partnering with the lgbt asylum project so this is a non-profit organization that is based in san francisco and it is dedicated to providing accessible legal representation to members of the lgbtq plus community who need it so by donating funds to this organization native is going to be able to help a lot more people who are seeking safety and security in the community which is amazing so if you guys wanted to try out native which i highly recommend then i have a little deal for you guys so normally you can get three deodorants for 36 dollars but native has been kind enough to offer a coupon code and i will have the link down below as well as the coupon code which is haley book six but if you use my linking code you can get the three deodorants for 24. which is 33 off and a really great deal and also using that code you can get 20 off of any body wash or toothpaste so thank you so much to native for sponsoring today's video i really love their products they keep me feeling fresh and that is super important all the time like year round but especially in the summer time i really love it so definitely check out that link down below if you guys were interested so as i mentioned second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes so i'm going to start off with that one so a second chance romance love story is one where the characters knew each other previously and they were friends something happened they haven't seen each other whatever but it just didn't work out then but now it is happening it finally is coming to be second chance romance i kind of will get mixed up a little bit with friends to lovers because i feel like they are kind of the same general idea it's just with second chance romance it was a relationship in the past meanwhile friends to lovers doesn't necessarily like have to be a relationship that was in the past so that being said one of my favorite second chance romances is 11 other words by christina lauren so christina lauren is definitely one of my favorite romance author duos like overall i absolutely love them they are probably my number one favorite to be honest but this is a story that completely blew me away so it follows characters who they used to see each other every year at their cottage they had a great relationship and it kind of formed into a romance but then when they were young things just didn't end up working out and now it's years and years down the road and the main character macy ends up running into elliott who was her first and only love this guy that she used to see at the cottage every year so meeting him again ends up bringing up a lot of difficult things she has to deal with a lot of feelings this is like particularly a really emotional romance and i think that's why i tend to kind of enjoy second chance romance a lot because i feel like there's always a lot of romance behind it there's a reason why it didn't work out in the first place and i want to know like what that reason is and i love seeing these characters like rekindle these feelings that used to be there before it just is so lovely to me i can't explain why i just think it shows how deep their connection is and that it was always meant to be and that is just something that i tend to enjoy so i think this book did a fantastic job with that it also deals heavily with books and that is definitely something that i love and like words and all of that and it was just a pleasure to read so definitely a great second chance romance for sure like it's definitely one of my favorite tropes i don't know what it is about it but i just love it so speaking of friends to lovers i will actually go on to that one next so i have to talk about josh and hazel's guide to not dating by christina lauren this could actually also be a second chance romance because the characters knew each other in college and they are polar opposites so they never like came together but hazel has always had a giant crush on josh she has always been interested in him it just never ended up working out and now they come together again and things end up starting to work out but first they do become like really great friends and it's so lovely to see their relationship because they just clash in every single way but it works for some reason this is one of the most adorable adult romances i've ever read i think it's probably my favorite like if you watch my videos i'm sure you've heard of this book before but it definitely deserves all the hype that it gets because it is so cute so fluffy like absolutely just adorable and it's the book that kind of introduced me to romance as a whole but it is fantastic as a friends to lovers story so you'll kind of notice that most books don't generally feature just one trope so like for example i'm going to talk about an opposites attract story next which is also another one of my favorite tropes but that could also be josh and hazel but it's friends to lovers and like this one in particular really hits a lot of tropes and that is beach read by emily henry so this is what i'm recommending for an opposites attract romance because you have a character who writes romance and you have a character who writes literary fiction and they end up switching what they're going to be writing for the summer to try and beat writer's block it's also second chance romans because they went to college together and they are seeing each other for the first time since then and i feel like there's another trope that i can think of but i can't exactly think of what it is right now but those are like the main ones that this covers and their relationship as opposites it was so lovely to see them come together like my boyfriend and i are pretty much polar opposite so i think that's kind of why i really enjoy opposites attract romances because it's something that i totally identify with and there's something about seeing these characters that like for all like intents and purposes it doesn't seem like they should be together it doesn't seem like they make sense but it actually does make sense for them to be together and you can't really see them apart and that's for sure what you get from the characters in this book and this is also another kind of more emotional romance which i tend to enjoy but it just hits all the levels for me so definitely a great one i'm actually going to add an eighth trope in here because i forgot that this one had two tropes and the one i think this is the only book i've read with that trope but it was really good so the book that i'm talking about is take a hint danny brown by talia hibbert and the trope that i'm talking about is friends with benefits so this is a fake dating relationship that ends up blossoming into a friends with benefits sort of deal and the chemistry between these characters is so palpable like you cannot help but get invested in it and that is like the best thing about a fake dating or friends with benefits arrangement like it starts with they know each other they see each other in passing they're acquaintances but then there's this rescue mission that ends up going viral and they end up using that in a fake dating arrangement to try and promote like use that publicity for the main like the love interest his charity so danny she is interested in fake dating so she makes that proposal and it blossoms into that and you also have a main character who is bi because danny is bi and then you also have anxiety representation in here so it's just a great book overall but oh my goodness talia hibbert does such a great job with writing like her writing is so easily readable it's something that you can't get enough of you have to keep on flipping the pages and for sure with this relationship i knew they needed to be together and i knew they would end up together but like it was just i was on the edge of my seat the entire time and oh my goodness the romance was chef's kiss amazing so originally i was going to just talk about take a hint danny brown for fake dating but i'm glad that i remembered that i had friends with benefits in it because i really wanted to mention this book as well and that is the kiss quotient by helen huang this is such a great representation of fake dating it is so steamy and so great like keep in mind i don't really love a ton of smut i think this would be probably like my smut level where i like to read it i don't like something that's super super steamy but these do definitely have those steamy scenes and by steamy scenes i mean like sex scenes so just in case you don't know what i'm talking about but with the kiss quotient it's about a character who she has autism spectrum disorder and it is own voices and she is really into numbers like that makes sense to her but the one thing that she can't really figure out is dating and sex and all of that so she ends up hiring a male escort to teach her all about that and they have obviously like kind of this fake dating arrangement and oh my goodness is it steamy but so cute at the same time like it manages to be sexy but adorable all at once and you will fall in love with these characters and their story and their relationship as you watch it go from fake to actual romance like you know it's gonna go there i personally am currently writing a fake dating story because it is one of my favorite tropes i love it like you definitely know that it's going to go from fake dating into like actual love but i'll never get tired of it speaking of fake dating next up i wanted to talk about the love triangle trope so this isn't my favorite and it's not one that you really see too often anymore but it can be done well now most of the recommendations actually all of the other recommendations that i have here are adult books but i couldn't think of any adult ones that had a love triangle so this is why a but it's really amazing and that is to all the boys i've loved before by jenny han i'm sure you've heard of this this isn't like a revolutionary you know ever since the netflix adaptation it has been getting the publicity that it deserves but it definitely features a fake dating arrangement but also a love triangle and it is one of my favorite love triangles because generally i don't love love triangles but this one it worked for me and it just has like each relationship in the love triangle is equally as adorable because there's a few that i can think of but there always tends to be like one relationship that i'll favor but in this case i don't think that there really was like i would have been happy either way i definitely did have like kind of a preference but for the most part i was like either way this goes i will be pleased with how it ends up ending so if you are still into the love triangle trope this is definitely a great one to go with also i mean maybe i'll do a recommendations video for it but loveboat taipei by abigail heng one is also a great love triangle next up is enemies to lovers or hate to love i feel like it's pretty much the same thing and they're kind of synonymous but this is probably the most popular trope but it's also one that i kind of struggle with i'm not the biggest fan of it and i've talked about this before but i really struggle to get behind it sometimes because i don't see the foundation for the hatred all the time and i feel like it seems kind of silly why they hate each other and it's just added there to have the angst of them finally getting to romance but there are some that i've really liked and one that i wasn't expecting to feature this trope is paris is always a good idea by jen mckinley so this is a romance that it features the enemies to lovers trope and i wasn't expecting that at all because it's about a girl who goes to try and find herself again she's going on this trip around europe that she took when she was younger to meet with her old ex-boyfriends and she's hoping to rekindle a romance there but it ends up not really going that way and the romance goes an unexpected direction and it ends up being enemies to lovers and this enemies to lovers really worked for me for some reason like i don't know why but i did really love this one so i feel like when it's not like the hatred is kind of more playful that's when i can get behind it i don't know i'm very picky with it so it's kind of hard for me to explain but i think this book definitely did enemies to lovers really well and my final recommendation is for forbidden love so i haven't really read all that many forbidden love romances but the one that i decided to go with is red white and royal blue by casey mcquiston so i think this is forbidden love in a way it definitely is enemies to lovers i think is the main trope in here but it is forbidden love because the characters kind of can't really be together because of prejudices so this is a male male romance it is with prince henry of wales and the first son of the president of the united states and they are enemies but then there's like this whole scandal so then they have to try and appear as friends for publicity but they end up actually forming a relationship and it is adorable so cute and it does have that forbidden element to it because it's not like really supposed to happen so it kind of has to stay secret and it just oh it's so amazing highly recommend this book it is beautiful and everything i wanted and definitely a great ferdman romance but also just romance in general okay so that is all for my book for every trope recommendations like i said i definitely do want to do like specific trope recommendations videos so let me know which trope you would like to see first and i can definitely do that for you guys so i hope you guys enjoyed please let me know what you would recommend for each trope as well because i'm always looking for like new books to read with tropes especially the ones that i love and i know that will probably help a lot of you guys watching as well so thank you so much for watching and i will see you guys in my next video soon bye youeveryone it's hailey and today i'm going to be recommending some books based on
