The Evolution of Amazon Echo: A Journey from Speaker to Smart Home Hub
We knew that the Amazon Echo speaker had a ton of potential, but I don't think anyone, including Amazon, had any idea it was going to blow up quite like it did. It's easy to understand why it does so many cool things, including controlling your smart home devices. So, Amazon recognized the success and decided to expand the echo line, resulting in this compact version.
The Amazon Echo Dot: A Game-Changer for Smart Homes
If you were to take the Amazon Echo speaker apart and remove its brain, that's Alexa you'd have here. The Amazon Echo Dot is a clever product that has changed the way we interact with our smart homes. Hello, your Amazon Echo Dot is ready for setup. Just follow the instructions in your Alexa app. Apparently, setup is supposed to be pretty automatic.
Setting Up the Amazon Echo Dot
I'll open up the Alexa app because I have an Echo at home. It knows I bought a Echo Dot, so I'm just going to click customize Alexa. And it looks like the Echo Dot is currently offline, so you click that. Now, I am prompted now to update the Wi-Fi. So, I'm gonna give that a click and already I'm being shown how to set things up. We'll press a little action button here to get the process started.
The Setup Process
The light turns purple and it's ready to start connecting as these things usually go. You first connect to the dot via Wi-Fi with your phone, then point it at your home's Wi-Fi network from there. Now, the Dot looks exactly like the top of the Echo speaker right down to the swirling LED light around the ring. We've got a mute button here so that Alexa will stop listening. We've also got a simple action button but the idea behind the Echo is that you don't have to touch it everything is voice controlled.
Connections and Features
Really simple connections on the back we've got a micro USB port for power and then an aux out Jack to hardwire to speaker. Alexa like get lucky now that might work ok if you're just using it for an alarm in your bedroom frankly I need something a lot and if you're gonna do any music listening I think you will too. So, you could connect to a compact speaker like this Reba s something much larger like that flow on back there or you could connect it directly to your big home theater system if you wanted.
Connection Options
Of course, you can hardwire using a 3.5 millimeter cable or any number of adapters if you like but I think going via Bluetooth is much more convenient to do that. Go into the Alexa app find the speaker you want a pair to and press the Go button from there on out all you need to do is tell Alexa to pair to your speaker when you want to Alexa connect to my speaker searching.
Amazon's Motivation
Oh, I think Amazon wanted a less expensive way to get inside your home and they've done exactly that with the dot. 90 bucks you use your own speaker system and now Alexa is inside your home. Ensure you're gonna set alarms that play music but you're also going to be able to control your smart home devices like your smart light and perhaps more importantly order stuff off of Amazon and I think that's a really big deal it's a clever product I think it's going to do well.
