Creating a Cozy Media Room: A Personal Project of Love and Nostalgia

As I sit in my newly set-up media room, surrounded by posters of my favorite movies and TV shows, I feel a sense of joy and contentment. This space has been a long time coming, and I'm thrilled to finally have it as my own. The process of creating this cozy retreat was a labor of love, and I couldn't wait to share it with you.

My media room is located in our Florida house, which was previously used as a home office by my sister, Micah. It was the perfect spot for me to escape into a world of entertainment and relaxation. When I inherited this space, I knew I had to transform it into a haven that would bring me hours of happiness.

The first decision I made was what kind of flooring to choose. While black carpet would have been a great option in theory, I decided to go with a bold statement by choosing white walls instead. This added a crisp and bright touch to the room, which I knew would be perfect for long movie nights or binge-watching my favorite shows.

Next, I selected furniture that was both comfortable and stylish. A plush couch with a simple yet elegant design was the centerpiece of the room. I chose this style to ensure maximum comfort and relaxation, as I want to spend hours snuggled up in here watching movies or TV shows. The two chairs were also carefully chosen to complement the existing decor, adding a touch of warmth and coziness to the space.

Now that the basic furniture was in place, it was time to add some personality to the room. My collection of movie posters took center stage, with frames that lit up from behind to create an immersive experience. I have to admit, I had a few frames missing from my collection – Goonies and Labyrinth were still on my wish list! However, this only added to the excitement as I discovered new posters to add to the mix.

One of my favorite features of the room is the barn door-style closure that separates the space from the rest of the house. This clever design provides a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living while also adding an air of mystery and drama. The step-down feature also creates a cozy nook, perfect for curling up with a good book or enjoying a quiet evening at home.

There are two floor lamps that provide soft, warm lighting when the projector is turned off, and I also have a collection of plants scattered around the room to add a touch of greenery. However, as much as I love the idea of having more plants, I've decided to keep things simple with just one statement piece – a gorgeous fern perched on a decorative planter.

One final aspect of my media room that I want to share is the fun and creative way I'm planning to decorate it for Halloween. I'll be swapping out some of the posters for seasonal favorites like Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, and other spooky classics. This will not only add an extra layer of excitement to the space but also create a unique theme that's sure to impress.

this is the matching set um so I knew that when we had picked this house and just like the layout and everything um I mean I was going to do this for that construction house also but originally my construction house the media room was smaller and so I always envisioned only putting the oversized chairs up here um so these chairs used to be in my living room um but they're gonna be the media room now I think they're perfect for the space because they're oversized they're called like a chair and a half and the movers put the couch appear as well and it wasn't supposed to be delivered up here the couch was supposed to stay in the living room um however it is really heavy and because of the size of this media room I thought you know what let me just leave the couch here I already ordered some risers and I'll show you guys why in a second and then I knew that um you know I only had the one ottoman previously so I bought another one so I'm setting it up now and then I'll show you guys why I got the risers and because um this website is running a 25 25 off sale I went ahead and added and bought the couch again and I'm okay with this because um I'll explain that to you in a second but I also ordered like my dining room chairs my kitchen chairs they're all going to be the same Furniture so I really like that it's just gonna have that like cohesive feel throughout my house now the other the other slip covers need to be taken off and washed because this has been in the Pod I don't know why but I thought we had removed all the covers when we were packing the pods I guess we did it so they gotta get washed all right so here's the setup this is why I wanted to get another ottoman so that each chair has its own and it can kind of like you can scoot this in all the way you know and turn it into a bed so um loving how this looks I bought the risers so that I can lift the couch up higher than these two that way if anyone's sitting back here you're just kind of having a more elevated and you can kind of see over you know the the arm chairs also I forgot that this is dry clean only I've been washing it myself I mean I think it's fine but I do think I'm gonna take the big ones off and I am going to send them to the dry cleaners for sure like look at this I don't even know what happened with that um so I'm gonna get that done and I mean look at this that is just not that's from That's from the movers um I mean this one's like brand new so anyhow it's looking like this So eventually that couch will be up higher and I do have my posters and my frames they are in the garage I'll be getting those out next and we will get the we'll get those mounted on the wall and then other than like probably adding a little basket of blankets that's going to be it for this room other than you you guys if you've been watching me you know I change out the posters for season and holidays so because we're in Fall I'm gonna get my posters out and then we'll change them into fall um but yeah this room is absolutely gorgeous oh and the other explanation is the reason why I decided to go ahead and leave this there and order a new couch so in the event let's say we move and the house is just a different layout or smaller or whatever it may be I actually contemplating having two of these couches for the living room um so if I ever needed to like pull this and you know use it in the living room with the other couch I will I also ordered ordered these same two chairs and we'll know I ordered the matching chairs to this but not the big ones I ordered like the regular size chair but it's the same it's the same slip cover the same color everything um I just thought these were way too big for the living room and I thought they would be more suited in the media room all right I got the movie posters in and you can see that I think I have like I don't know if this is my like February stack but I have The Breakfast Club 16 Candles Groundhog's Day and then Star Wars over here so if you guys remember I wrote a list of what's behind each one so that I can fit you know so I don't have to like look through everything I can just know that I need to pull you know like Harley Quinn would be a great good one for Halloween um but some but I might want to do a fall first so I need to kind of like Labyrinth I would love for fall so we might pull Labyrinth and then on this one let's see what we have Hocus Pocus we get a Bernie's When Harry Met Sally as a second one so we've got one Beetlejuice Home Alone hmm Goonies I crossed out Goonies did I have five of these so I didn't want to do too much to it especially really being so much a rental but in my last media room I would have done like a black carpet because I didn't choose black carpet I chose Black Walls um and I was going to do totally different frames I had them actually picked out on Etsy and they're like the big kind that actually light up from behind so that you can actually see the posters themselves um like in the dark so but it's okay I love these I'm glad I get to use them again and the new addition really here is that one this is the first time I actually have a an actual media room so we have this huge Barn Door style that closes there it goes all the way so that's a really nice feature then you've got the step down so yeah I could have added a rug I also could have added like a plant in here but I actually really like the Simplicity because I think really you know the purpose is to have really good seating that feels loungy that you can also kind of like take a nap in and fall asleep to a movie on um I like the crisp bright white of the furniture so that is my couch that was in the living room um these two chairs were in the living room as well in the last house so and then I pulled out all of my posters I feel like I have a frame missing because Goonies is missing and I know I have more movie posters I just don't know where this Frame is Suicide Squad we've got Labyrinth I think I'm going to replace Labyrinth so I'm gonna go on Amazon to find a different movie to put up in here I might do like a Batman that might be a really fun one um and then we have the older ones so we have Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice it would be fun to kind of have like the same era theme so I might replace Harley Quinn as well for this year and just do like two older Halloween movies if you have any suggestions on what those two should be somewhere in the 80s and 90s is where I would like to place it so if you have any ideas let me know Labyrinth I don't know does anyone else consider that like Halloweeny but I do know that it's seasonally it is fall just because of what she's wearing um so it's not quite winter and it's not summer anymore so it's definitely a fall movie I think it fits but is it more fall than it is Halloween I'm going to go ahead and turn the projector on and we'll put on a Halloween movie and while the projector is warming up I want to just kind of show you guys all the other wall space I have so I have all this but you know there's a light there's the speakers so there's really no wall space here there's all of this here but I just don't think I need to fill every wall plus this one is actually like curved and then over here you know I know I could have definitely added a third frame like I could have scooted this in and done a third but I actually think that might have been a little too many frames I don't know I think four is a really good amount um for this space clue would be a good one oh I have clue I have this poster see I think I think there's a frame missing somewhere and I need to find it because I pretty positive I have the clue poster so I'm gonna go back in the garage see if I can't find the fifth um poster because I know that one's got to have Clues Gotta Have Goonies and now we're just gonna put on clue in here like look at look how wonderful the screen is like it's actually kind of crazy so then you know we would kind of close the light and I still have this door open and then I put these on risers which I think you guys saw I think it probably needs like another Riser set but um but yeah so from
