Hyundai i30 Fastback N 2020 review - see why it's the best value performance car EVER!
The Car of the Century: A Review of the i30 Fastback N
We're standing in front of one of the most exciting cars to hit the market, the Hyundai i30 Fastback N. This car uses a 2-liter forced turbocharged petrol engine with an impressive 275 horsepower and up to 380 Newton meters of torque. The performance figures are pretty decent considering its price point.
Performance Figures
The i30 Fastback N is not just about looks; it's also packed with impressive performance features. We put this car through its paces, launching it from a standstill in record time. With the launch control system engaged, we managed to accelerate from 0-60mph in an astonishing 7.1 seconds. However, our repeat attempts only confirmed that this is not just a one-off result; we consistently recorded a lap time of 7.1 seconds. Despite some minor issues with the timing gear, we're confident that this car has what it takes to leave its rivals in the dust.
Handling and Driving Experience
But how does this hot hatch perform on twisty roads? We put it through its paces in "N mode" with the suspension set to its firmest setting. The result was a dead smooth ride that allowed us to take full advantage of the car's capabilities. The steering is incredibly sharp, and the car turns in well, but it does still move around beneath you slightly. A gentle lift off the throttle and some careful handling soon had the car carving through corners with ease.
The Rev Matching Feature
One of the standout features of this car is its rev matching system. This clever feature allows the engine to automatically adjust its revs to match the speed of the wheels, making it easier for drivers like us to get out of tight corners without overrevving or stalling the engine. It's a feature that makes driving more intuitive and enjoyable, rather than relying on manual control.
A Daily Driver
But what about everyday driving? How does this car handle the daily commute, school runs, and family errands? We find out by switching to our custom version of the i30 Fastback N, with the engine, spoiler, and exhaust system all fitted. The suspension is set to its "comfort" setting, which provides a more relaxed ride that's perfect for cruising around town. The car is fully loaded with features like heated steering wheel, electric seats, cruise control, lane departure warning, and reversing camera.
The Verdict
So, what's our final verdict on the Hyundai i30 Fastback N? In short, it's a fantastic car that checks all the right boxes. With its impressive performance, agile handling, and generous feature list, this car is an absolute bargain. Whether you're a driving enthusiast or just looking for a reliable daily driver, the i30 Fastback N should be at the top of your shopping list.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi everyone I'm Matt Watson here from car wash so I'm here with a Hyundai i30 fastback n yeah I said that correctly it's not I thought en fastback otherwise hi and I'll get very cross so will people in the forms apparently now obviously I'm going to review it and to do that I'm going to talk around the design upgrades over the normal fastback oh look we've got an extra inch show you what's new inside it's a stitch-up a sporty red stitch-up tell you what's good about it it's more configurable than my phone what's not good about it that could be annoying and of course when I test its performance now this car starts from 30,000 pounds however you can save an average of 2,000 pounds off on through car Wow however that is for a factory order we also do used a nearly new cars in fact this car was an ex demo because it was bought by this chap over here so Vic so so Vic you bought this car ex demo how many miles did it have on the clock just under 2000 just in 2000 and what did he pay for it twenty three thousand pounds twenty three thousand pounds for this car that is a bargain isn't it it is indeed yes so if you know of someone who's looking to buy a new car or you are looking for one yourself where should you go so Vic just go to car well yeah definitely now you can do it by click on the pop-up banner up there or follow the link below the video let's start this review by talking about the design it's based on the norm or a thirty fastback which means you have this swooping rear end which is just a little bit more sophisticated in the normal I thirty hatchback but then you've got the N editions you've got a sporty boot lit spoiler there you've got your end badging you've got a deeper rear bumper with a diffuser that's boys that and there's two exhaust pipes press they're real the only bit of fakery around the back is this bit here which isn't too bad really and as you move down the sides you'll notice the alert wheels they are 19 inches as standard interestingly the i30 n hatchback starts off with 18-inch alloy wheels then you have some n side skirts you again war and badging cost it's low to the ground the standard fastback makes you look leaner you've got red brake callipers then moving on to the front the car comes a standard with LED headlights you got an angry with more end badging just in case you'd forgotten already as a front with a red stripe and it looks really sporting and here look there's some more vintage helps call the brakes how cool is that I tell you what which do you think that was the best the fastback version of the end or the hacks patent click up there in fact let me know I want to see what you think here on the inside upgrades include yet more ends na na na na and na yeah then there's the red stitching everywhere red stitching red stitching red stitching stitching and then there's some more redline accents here on the events and you get an N steering wheel so it's a bit more sporty and a sportier gear knob as well with a bit metal on it and what seems to be one of those dead ahead struts that you normally have from the steering wheel but maybe high-end i owners just want to check their knob is straight other upgrades of course include these sport seat so it's nice to see an actually they seem to have like a bib no did they dribble their food down them I don't know it's very hard on the steering wheel you have some specific drive mode buttons including a special in button there as well one more thing look we have some aluminium pedals which feel suitably sporty and some sporty-er floor mats and that's about it over there normal car it's alright inside but it just doesn't feel as plush as a golf GTI in fact if you want to see my fault in depth video review at the VW Golf GTI TCR model no less click on the pop-up banner up there here in the back the end theme continues with some sporty mats seats that are like those in the front more red stitching or constant defined any in badges they forget to fit them other than that it's a fastback business-as-usual so all right knee room but look oh dear Headroom is a bit tired if you lean back due to that sloping roofline so that's a problem for you take it down the Popeye balance watch my detailed review the i30 n hatchback it's a bit more women if Headroom yeah one area this car is better than the hatchback is the boot capacity it's about 12 percent larger there's a bit of functionality as well so you've got your 12-volt sockets there things to hang stuff off i've known as hawks in the trade and some tied on points as well one issue though is the huge boot which really does just over agin that aren't I sorry anyway that's a bit annoying and that both are annoying things about this car this rear strut brace is great for making the cost stiffer yeah it's not so good when it comes to try to shove heavy items to the front of the car when you got it fully loaded so it gets in the way now well everyone knows what a GTI is or a type are they're gonna wonder what the heck in any so after explaining it's the performance version of a high-end die and the N stands for the fact that the car was conceived in Nanyang Korea and developed at the Nurburgring now a flint because normally whenever I mentioned Nurburgring someone kicks me in the ass because it's a kind of rule that I had but fortunately there's no one around here to do that but if you're the kind of person that likes to have the car a maximum attack all the time and drive around in the sportiest endnote' setting you might find it a touch of knowing that when you turn the car off and on again it automatically defaults to the bloomin normal mode so then you have to press the button to put it back into n mode just as you want it and I'll tell you what I'm far too busy to be pressing buttons there are only two standard paint colors red or white if you don't like those didn't have to play 600-pound extra for something else such as this grey don't go for this I will go for the light blue it's far cooler sorry so Vic it's true and I call this cause competitors you cannot get an automatic gearbox yes I know manuals are more fun but some people want an auto and so if you do yeah you have to discount this car don't worry there's still plenty to like about this car is the car well five cool features yeah lovely sounding sports exhaust as standard you don't have to pay extra for it like you do on some of the manufacturers cars oh sorry yeah also there's no soft limiter like in many competitors so you can just sit at the lights scaring the bejesus out of the pedestrians you get performance breaks and a limited slip differential which is electrically controlled so it responds very quickly for maximum traction out of corners the suspension is lower and stiffer than the standard I thirty fastback also you have adaptive dampers as standard this cars driving settings are completely customizable so you can mix and match the engine settings the rev matching the e limited slip differential the exhaust sound the suspension the steering feel and the stability control between loads of different parameters so you can have it setup exactly as you want it you decide not high and die which i think is really really good and other manufacturers don't let you do that in fact someone has worked out that there are 20,000 different combinations yeah whoever that was is way more boring than me I'm too busy just like having fun with you in cars this car uses a 2-liter forced into turbocharged petrol engine with 275 horsepower and up to 380 Newton meters of torque yeah so there's performance figures a pretty decent considering this cause reasonable price let's see just how quick this car is 260 miles an hour so I'm gonna launch it a bit bad doing this to someone's actual car normally the press cars doesn't matter so much but this is in the name of proper car testing okay sorry so Vic it has to be done this actually has a sort of launch control as well you just floor the throttle then sidestep the clutch so what happens and I'll measure the time my specialist timing gear here so come on come on oh it really bogged down I want to do it again but it's not my car that did it in seven point one seconds should we give it another go I promise I'll buy your new clutch if there's a problem later so Vic okay I'm just going to reset this go into first and hold on the handbrake and try and manage a Thrall it's what happens it's not great spinning up its wheels okay but the exact same bloody time another seven point one seconds bank special date in six point one seconds so a whole second behind buggery I'm gonna give it one last go come on use the noise control again no bobbed again come on no no it is seven point one seconds again right that's it that's what it does I don't care what hind eye says it's nothing to do with me it's their fault definitely fine that's enough of that I don't destroy so vyx car hopefully he won't be too mad and he sees this start to find out what this hot hatch sorry hot fastback is like on a twisty road so I've got in n mode with the suspension the firmest setting I wouldn't normally do that because it's really really firm and it just bounces down the road but this bit atomic is dead smooth so I can get away with it and it does keep the car flatter so first thing to note is a steering really sharp it does turn in well the car has plenty of grip but it does still move around beneath you a bit it's a really good this they grow under steering there I just lift it off a bit and it timed it slide which is a good thing Josie's a playful chassis I've also got the car with the rev matching on now generally with the manual oh I want to heal and toe myself but the pills perhaps a little bit far apart for me I can do it but it's just a bit easier letting the car do itself so I can concentrate on just driving like a bit it is a real laugh and every time you change care lift off the throttle do you care gunfire coming out the exhaust it's like you're fleeing from a war so finally let's talk about what this cars like as a daily driver so I'm going to come out of extreme end mode and going to my own custom version which basically has the engine the spoiler setting and the death and the exhaust sound but the steering and the suspension is in the comfy setting which is much better for just cruising around now the suspension is still quite fun but it's not bad at all it's not quite as soft as a golf GTI in its comfort setting we don't forget you have to pay extra for that on the golf also this cars are so fully loaded to make your everyday life so nice I've got heated steering wheel seats the seats are electric I've got cruise control and it'll steer to keep me in Lane I've got a reversing camera all round parking sensors the gearbox in time can give it hard work so we say it's very mechanical and nachi superb when you cane in it because it's just like I say mechanical you feel involved of it but for day-to-day driving it could do maybe in a bit slicker no less heavy minor complaint another minor complaint is a bit of Tyre no he's really going quickly but yeah it's alright I mean I need to overtake its drop it down and off you go again yeah yeah yeah wring it out watch those Rev lights that's it change up a lot it's gone it does so much for really so very little money it is an absolute bargain so Vic chose well so then what's my final verdict on the i30 fastback n well do you know I think it's a really really good car it's fun to drive it looks more sophisticated than the hatchback it's incredible value for money for what you're getting especially if like sobic you get through car wow just saying so if you're looking to buy a new car or you know someone who is they should head to where should they head so big they should and you could do thathi everyone I'm Matt Watson here from car wash so I'm here with a Hyundai i30 fastback n yeah I said that correctly it's not I thought en fastback otherwise hi and I'll get very cross so will people in
