**The Xiaomi Mi 5T: A Powerful and Impressive Android Phone**
I recently had the opportunity to test and review the Xiaomi Mi 5T, one of the latest Android phones from the Chinese manufacturer. The phone features a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display, a massive 3300mAh battery, and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 6GB of RAM. Despite being stuck with a full HD+ resolution, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Mi 5T still managed to deliver impressive battery life.
The phone's battery life is one of its strongest suits. With half an hour of charging, you get a full day of use out of it. The USB-C port allows for fast charging, and the phone comes with a bundled plug and cable to make the most of it. Additionally, the Mi 5T supports Bluetooth 5.0 and has dual SIM card slots, which is handy for travelers like myself who often find themselves in different countries.
One of the things that sets the Mi 5T apart from other Android phones is its fast performance. The phone feels incredibly responsive to use, thanks to its latest nan dragon 835 processor and 6GB of RAM. While it's a shame that the phone ships with Android 7.1.1 rather than Android 8 Oreo, the Oxygen OS skin on top of Android is minimal and lightweight, making it feel almost like you're using a stock Android phone.
The camera on the Mi 5T is also worth mentioning. It features two lenses - a 16-megapixel main camera with an F/1.7 aperture, and a second 20-megapixel sensor that uses pixel merging to reduce noise in low-light conditions. While it still falls short of some top-end flagships like the Google Pixel and Excel, I was impressed by its performance in low-light conditions.
However, there are also some areas where the Mi 5T falls short. The speaker quality is not great, and I often found myself covering the speaker grille with my hands when holding it horizontally. This can be a bit annoying, especially when watching movies or playing games. Additionally, the phone lacks dust and water resistance, which is a shame considering the high price point of many flagship phones.
Another disappointment is the lack of support for high dynamic range (HDR) on the screen. While this isn't a major issue, it's something that some other top-end flagships like the Pixel and Excel offer. Finally, I was surprised to find that the phone doesn't have an IP rating, which is becoming increasingly common in flagship phones.
**A Compelling Value Proposition**
Despite its minor flaws, the Xiaomi Mi 5T is still a compelling value proposition. At a price point of around £450, it's significantly cheaper than many other Android flagships on the market. The phone's fast performance, impressive battery life, and excellent camera make it an attractive option for anyone in the market for a new smartphone.
In comparison to other phones like the Google Pixel and Excel, which are also great options, I'd say that the Mi 5T is my favorite Android phone of the year so far. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of some top-end flagships, its performance, battery life, and value proposition make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their smartphone.
**Conclusion**
Overall, I was impressed by the Xiaomi Mi 5T's impressive performance, battery life, and camera. While it may not have all the features that some other flagship phones offer, its value proposition is hard to beat. If you're in the market for a new Android phone, I'd definitely recommend considering the Mi 5T. It's available now in various colors and configurations, including a £500 model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe Samsung Galaxy s8 started the trend of thinner bezels and taller screens the Google pixel 2 has the best camera on any phone right now and the iPhone 10 is arguably the most bold relying on gestures and face ID but if one of my friends asked me what phone should I buy right now I'd say the 1 + 5 t and then they'd say what's a 1 + is it a new Samsung or something and then you'll have to explain what 1 + is and the reason I'm recommending it and why I'm calling it the phone of the year is value for money bang for buck the 1 + 5 t starts at 450 pounds that's the same as the older one plus 5 but also 350 pounds cheaper than the pixel to excel and wait for it I think he knows it's going more than half the price of the new iPhone 10 you can get two of these for the same price as this but it's not just because it's cheaper than its rivals the five T is one of my favorite phones to use and they've addressed almost all the issues I had with the 1+5 they've trimmed the bezel right down so you get a bigger well taller screen in roughly the same size phone and they've improved the camera by replacing the second telephoto lens with a better low-light lens which visibly reduces noise and improves image quality over the 1+5 they've also added face unlocking with the front camera although honestly I still prefer using the fingerprint reader which is now on the back rather than the front they've got rid of the home button but it is still incredibly fast so there's not a whole lot new here the five T basically offers a refined design and updated cameras so it's not worth upgrading if you already own the one plus five but considering they are the same price if you're looking for a new phone I definitely go with the five T and the best news they've kept the three-and-a-half millimeter headphone jack thank you so there's a lot to like here the slim aluminium body feels great and isn't a fingerprint magnet like most other phones although it's quite slippery so I'd recommend using a case the six inch 18 by 9 aspect ratio screen uses an AMOLED panel which is bright and really vibrant and coming from the pixel too it's nice to see that in the display settings you can actually choose whether you want srgb DCI p3 or the default color settings the 5t has the same 3300 milliamp hour battery as the one plus five but despite the biggest screen and probably thanks to the fact that it's stuck with a full HD plus resolution I get about the same battery life which is to say it's still very impressive the 5 T ez lasts a day and a half about the same as - pixel - Excel and with - charge half an hour gets you a full day of use for the USB C port although you do need to use the bundled plug and cable but come with 1 + 5 t to get the most out of it then there's the nifty alert slider on the side the fact that it supports Bluetooth 5 and also dual SIM cards which is really handy for me as I travel quite a lot but I think most importantly for me is it just feels fast and responsive to use I'd say after the pixel - this is the fastest Android phone I've ever used now in part that's thanks to the latest nan dragon 835 processor and 6 gigs around although you can also get eight gigs of ram on the 500 pound model but also it's the software now it is a bit of a shame that the 5 T ships running Android 7.1.1 rather than Android 8 Oreo although hopefully that'll be updated soon but despite that the oxygen OS skin that sits on top of Android on the 5 T is so minimal and so lightweight it feels almost like you're using a stock Android phone like the pixel and it's also the little things like they give you a case for the phone in the box and there's a screen protector already on the phone now I must admit I did like the telephoto lens that you got on the one plus five which gave you a two times optical zoom but at the same time I've glad they focused on improving the main camera which is now much better in low light you still get two lenses one 16 megapixel main camera and a second 20 megapixel sensor both with an F 1.7 aperture but when the camera detects you're taking a photo in low-light less than 10 looks to be specific which is about what you'd get from street lighting at night it uses the second lens and basically merges four pixels into one to reduce noise and give you a better less noisy image but overall while the camera is definitely an upgrade over that one plus five it does still fall short of some of the top-end flagships the pixel to excel is still significantly better in terms of dynamic range and overall detail but because during the price I think the five T is still very impressive so that is the good stuff but I do have a couple of issues with the five T the speaker quality isn't great and I always seem to cover the speaker grille with my hands when I hold it horizontally so I always have to sort of turn it around if I'm watching a movie or playing a game which is a bit annoying there's also no dust or water resistance no IP rating at all which is a real shame and one of the only flagships this year that doesn't have it so that's a bit disappointing also the screen doesn't support high dynamic range for watching HDR movies on Amazon or Netflix which isn't the end of the world but a fair few of the other top headphones do have it but also despite feeling as fast as a stock Android phone like the pixel oneplus phones do tend to be updated a little bit slower as I say it's a bit of a shame this is running Android 7 so right now I'm testing and using a whole bunch of different phones and while there's a lot going for each of these and I have to say I think the pixel to excel is my favorite because well I just love the camera on this thing it is 800 pounds whereas this is 450 and even if you opt for the 500 pound model of the 5 T with 8 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage is still a lot cheaper you could of course buy a guide cs8 for around 500 pounds now as well which is also a great phone and has a slightly better camera although I prefer the faster performance and the better battery life on the 5 T so I think what I'm trying to say is well I may not be perfect the 5 T is incredible value for money and not only would I highly recommend it but I am genuinely calling it my phone of the year 2017 I've put links to the 5 T in the
