My New FC RX7 Turbo 2s

I've recently had the pleasure of spending some time with my two Red Turbo 2's, and I'm excited to share my experiences with you guys. First up, let's talk about the first car that needs a little bit of TLC. It was making like 12-13 pounds of boost, which is super safe, and in second gear, it creeps like 16 pounds, which is pretty cool because it's running rich at 980 air/fuel ratio. Leaving some power on the table there, I have to say that I'm happy with how this car is coming along.

I did need a computer cable to hook up to my ECU, and after doing some research, I found out that Microtech makes an LLC10 or something, which works great. The plugs from idling just needed a little cleaning out, so I used some D-cells to get rid of the fuel buildup. It's amazing how much of a difference it made - the car was blowing air through the motor like crazy! To clean them out, I decelerated and then gave it a big rev with the D-cell, which really got the job done.

I also found out that my plugs were toast, so I had to replace them. Luckily, Chelsea told me about spark plug cleaners, and those plugs were still breaking up after new ones were installed, so I leaned out the fuel pressure regulator a bit. Now, it's running smoothly, but not quite yet - we need to get that special cable to plug in, which is going to make all the difference.

After getting some more familiar with my car, I've decided that it needs a little bit of bodywork and some Vargas magic underneath the hood. It's not as fast as I thought it would be, but it's definitely an improvement over what it was when I got it. Now, let me ask you guys - which one is the keeper? Is it this car that needs a little TLC, or is it the other one that's been driven around and is ready to go?

I'm also not opposed to finding another Red Turbo 2, even though I rarely have time to search for them. If something pops up and you think it's a good deal, send me a message on Instagram, and I'll take a look. I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot with these two cars right now, but I'm always excited to explore other options.

Tomorrow, I'm off to Pulling In for Drift Masters, which is going to be a lot of fun. I get to drive one of my cars and make sure everything feels up to snuff before we head out on the track. It's going to be a great test day, and I'm excited to show you guys what it can do.

In other news, I have 8,000+ other cars that I need to build, so I think I'll start working on those next. But for now, let's get back to my two Red Turbo 2's - they're definitely the focus of my attention right now. And if you guys are wondering about the problem that I'm trying to solve, well... I recognize the problem, and I admit it - I have a problem with cars! But I'm hoping that by sharing my experiences with you, we can all learn from each other.

Finally, don't forget about our giveaway - we've got an FC Red Turbo 2 up for grabs, worth $7,500 cash. All you need to do is head over to lzmfg or Drift HQ and pick something up, and then enter for a chance to win. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enin honor of the fdrx7 giveaway that is ending tonight at midnight I thought I would make an RX7 special video for you showing two cars that I've had stash for quite some time as a reminder this ends tonight at midnight California time and every five dollars you spend on lzmfg or drift HQ is going to give you entered for a chance to win we got awesome stuff it's gonna be selling out fast the last days always our busiest day go find something cool pick it up and let's talk FC's I've definitely made it known in videos that I wanted a red Turbo 2 fcrx7 and well what's better than one red Turbo 2 RX7 two red Turbo 2 rx7s technically would this make it a turbo four sorry about my voice by the way it's been a little bit rough we've been traveling all over the place I haven't been sleeping much and I'm starting to lose my voice from the lack of sleep anyway I want to show you both these cars and kind of tell you the story behind them and I need your help deciding which one is going to be the forever card if you don't know me I'm a little ridiculous and I tend to buy a lot of cars to find the right one the reason why I do that is because I know I'm probably going to own one of these cars until the day that I die I'm gonna build it put a lot of time and money into it and I want to start with the most perfect car I possibly can in the past I would just get whatever car was cheapest or easiest and always regret it once I end up redoing the whole entire car to live up to our standards so without further Ado we have Turbo 2 number one now this car popped up on Facebook Marketplace and what initially drew me to it was the fact that this car only has 30 000 original miles no accidents and has three owners the interior is absolutely phenomenal probably the cleanest FC interior I've ever seen stop with the annoying beep the dash is immaculate everything in this car is the best it could possibly be however when you look at the outside of the car it doesn't look like it has 30 000 miles my theory looking around this car seeing lots of little dents and nicks that have been touched up it probably sat in someone's garage for a long amount of time and maybe they had kids that crashed into it with bicycles I know I've definitely been that kid before because the body definitely shows some age but the interior looks brand new these louvers are super rare so that's a cool plus they do have a little crack in them but I promise when I take them off they'd go to Colette little bits of you know chips Nicks and stuff that's touched up probably not in the most ideal way and you can tell that something's been resprayed here whether it was the door the pillar but the coolest thing about this car other than the interior is what's under the hood and normally you'd expect it to be engine swapped or have something all crazy modified this thing is as stock as a rock it's even got a battery cover for a car sold in 1987 to have an engine bay that looks like this is absolutely unreal the aluminum isn't even that tarnished it's got all the bits there nothing's been deleted nothing's been messed with and kind of a cool fact about this car it doesn't have power steering which I didn't even know was a thing I guess it was pretty rare on turbo twos and most of them have power steering personally I don't really care that much my dilemma with this car is that no matter what you even though it's got low mileage and underneath the hood is perfect for it to be up to my level this car absolutely needs some Bodywork and a full respray so with that being said I had this car sitting for say I don't know maybe two or three months and then another one popped up I should say this other one has been on my radar for a while but the guy was asking like twice as much as I thought it was worth fast forward you wound up lowering the price so I went to check it out with Colette ready your neck okay yeah you ready yeah all right baby here we go okay okay sounds so good all right where are we going tell them where we're going we are going to do more rotary cars We're not gonna say what it is entire videos I've been on the hunt for one of these for a while in fact I already own one and I don't know if I've revealed the fact that I own one or not but another one popped up and I'm not super sold on this one just yet so I wanted to go check this one out they lowered their price by 15 grand so either they're desperate for money or the car's upon them and we're gonna find out today now before I go into car number two a little brief story time this was probably the most unideal car buying scenario ever but luckily knowing Vargas I had some confidence I went there I saw a 400 horsepower Dyno sheet it looked Jagged so I was like not expecting much out of the car but I had good parts I was like whatever it's cool car checks out paint's pretty good everything looks good under the engine base I'm like screw it let's go for a drive let me just make sure it like sounds healthy we go for a drive and I kid you not this is the slowest car I've probably ever driven he let me drive and I felt like such a jerk when I told him I was like yo I'm sorry dude but whoever told you this thing has 400 horsepower it has like 150 if you're lucky I've got a pretty big I've got a pretty good butt Dyno because I've been in so many different cars he didn't believe me and he was saying that uh you know it just maybe he never steps on it and it's just always been like this but I was like yo I'm gonna pull over I'm gonna look because something's really wrong sure enough there's a coupler on top where the top mount intercooler is it's split in half so I'm like listen man if I was a jerk I would have just told you the motor was hurt but let's fix it you got a coupler so I fix it take it out for another drive it actually makes boost now but the problem is it makes way too much boost it wanted to go to the Moon luckily the fueling was super rich and I was able to let out because I saw that it was going over like 20 pounds on pump gas and I was like your way scale lines are probably split so took it back verified wastegate lines are split and in this scenario I probably should not have bought the car knowing that it had that major issue with it who knows how many times it had done a pull with Wii skate line split I felt better that the dude didn't even know that it felt down on power maybe he thought it was broken and that's why he was selling it to me I'm gonna give the dude the benefit of the doubt because he was a super nice guy I actually really enjoyed talking to him and I even told him I was like listen dude anyone else would have just beat you up over your price and told you that the motor was blown so they could get the car even cheaper and even after diagging two major things with the car he was firm on his price so I told him that's cool dude I'm not gonna buy the car but I'm gonna invoice you for my time that uh I spent fixing your car kind of half joking and he was cool and he came down a little bit and I wound up taking the car home super nice guy I really for whatever reason even though it's like the worst and most annoying thing I enjoy taking on other people's projects because diagnosing and finding and fixing things is one of my favorite pastimes especially when a car is like 80 percent the way there like the Datsun I'd spend very little and I was able to use what it had to make it super fun and even better and hopefully this car is like that so let me show you what we're working with now unlike this car that has 30 000 miles and three owners this car has 80 000 miles and like seven or eight owners so a little bit nervous knowing that this car spent some time on Connecticut that it might have some Rust and I probably should mention this car is pretty much Flawless underneath a tiny bit of surface rust in the front of the frame rail pinch welds are a little bit so-so like no rust but you could tell that someone jacked up on it before this car is probably just as clean underneath uh apart from probably having slightly better pinch welds on the car so this one you'll see even on camera the paint is much better I was told it was original paint but I'm a paint nerd and I could tell that definitely some stuff's been resprayed the dead giveaway to me is that non-metallic Mazdas were all single stage so for this car to have what looks like some clear coat failure on the door is a bit weird the exciting thing though is I have already taken a grios polisher and a little bit of fast correcting cream to the hood and it cleans up really nice you can see uh this lighting doesn't really do the best Justice pretty mucked up over here over here I started to hit it with a like single step and it cleans up really good this one one absolutely not perfect by any means when we're talking about the body however I can see myself driving this and enjoying it for a while before it gets a full refresh other one I mean I could drive both and enjoy both so that sounds a little bit ridiculous this one I feel like is up to par for a driver's car all right we'll show you walking around a little bit the spoiler is black instead of red it doesn't have louvers but overall all of the the trims and all the little details are pretty good all of the Reds match even if some stuff might have been repainted about the the biggest issue or flaw I could really say on the outside of this car is that it has like little Dent here I think it's got like one little Dent maybe here but I'll show you both cars kind of uh man they both look so good I'm being honest this one you like interior I feel like is the way harder thing to find and Source just because of uh the fact that these cars are old and brittle the inside on this one I would say is pretty dang close to the other one still Immaculate I feel like there's a little bit more wear showing in the seat but still no stains the interior is all there uh pretty much Flawless I'll show you real quick back to back we've got this interior we'll come over now we'll look at this interior pretty much identical but like I was saying there's a little bit more structure to the seat here this one uh you can tell it's a little bit more been ridden in but this thing does have one thing that I feel like makes it worth just as much as the other car because I paid pretty much the same exact price this one obviously has more miles let's call it a little bit cleaner on the outside but underneath the hood I actually think that this car might have been a better deal because it's not stock which I'm torn about right I want to build an FC but I know that buying these cars building an FC is going to be far down the chopping block I still want to build my own FD this is just one thing that I just want to find the right car so that when I'm ready to build one I've got it on Deck but this one while I'm waiting to build it I can enjoy it because she's not bought she's built wait she's built not bought I bought it built you know what I'm trying to say definitely not as clean as the OEM Survivor but this thing has some pretty cool bits like an aftermarket turbo custom top mount intercooler which is kind of neat and most importantly this engine has been studded has a Street Port it's got an ECU all the fuel lines have been redone brand new fuel tank got a good fuel pump in it so this thing allegedly made 400 horsepower and can be enjoyed and driven in its current state and still be fast enough that it's uh not a slouch like old girl over here another noteworthy thing that's also kind of surprising is that both cars still have all ac lines this one is working AC this one had working AC but uh I thought it needed a recharge and well you'll see I have some footage that I'm gonna put after here of me diagnosing and fixing a couple things with the car the spoiler alert they see compressor locked up so this one doesn't have a working AC for now just a little weekend maintenance charging up the AC system starting to replace the vacuum lines that I know are melted and I'm going to ditch this ugly little short filter put a nice k n one on there it had a weird thing where the fan was always stuck on and sure enough is actually a faulty relay that was causing it to basically bypass the relay um I've got a whole cluster to go through here but in the meantime replacing the relay fix the fan situation so it shouldn't have that battery draw anymore I'm pretty happy with the cleanliness underneath this one very very minimal I mean practically no rust this area of the frame rail looks like it has a little bit of surface rust but it appears to be just on the surface uh most importantly all the vacuum lines going to the wastegate as I suspected are melted I don't know if you guys can see but I'll verify ones are off and interestingly enough there's no uh there's no dump here which is a first I've never seen anyone run it like that but I guess it's okay for now here's the line that went to the top of the gate got a nice little hole right there I always check the wheels for play and sure enough this one it's gonna be hard to show you but it has a loose wheel bearing so I'll snug that up and this is the line going to the side of the gate interestingly enough these fittings you might see drag racers use and they hold a ridiculous amount of boost but the line that's used with the push lock fittings uh is very very fragile when it comes to heat so I don't recommend it I always like to use vibrant silicone hose with the worm style pinch clamps zip ties can melt and it seems to work best for us if we aren't going the full and line route like on the race cars but this stuff jump and sure enough nut is literally ham loose good thing I had a powder pin in it well I didn't even get a chance to film a clip of me doing a pull in this thing because instantly after I drifted it one time successfully and wished that I filmed it the way skate started getting stuck again so I just went through the lines again and just deleted the entire boost controller routing so I'm just going straight to the gate now and I figured while I'm in here I might as well check for Boost leaks and sure enough hello boost leaks but the problem is it has a super super cool top mount intercooler that blocks every single thing that I can have access to so I'm gonna take it off and then see if I can get away with like plugging both sides to see if I can figure out what's going on underneath um because that would probably explain why the car feels a bit laggier than I'd expect although you guys haven't seen any footage of it driving so um taking my word for it it just took my word for it you know the Datsun yeah take Mike's work wait have you been in it yeah dude I've been ripping this thing really no okay I still think the best thing is the dude own this car forever and had no idea that it was only making half of the power that you thought it was making I will give props it was made pretty serviceable so that's cool two bolts and then I think there's one bolt in the back and I think the whole top mount configuration should come off foreign deteriorated that I was like I wouldn't be surprised if these ones were hella split but uh they actually don't look too bad so what I'll do now is I'll grab the good old-fashioned smoke tester pop her on and start sniffing around seeing what we can find luckily I've just been doing quite a bit of intake manifold stuff on the Datsun so I'm kind of familiar with all the little vacuum ports and stuff otherwise this thing would be a nightmare because there's like three little ports here three little ports here two vacuum lines go underneath the intake manifold and one of them is leaking so this couple you see this coupler is looking pretty bad yeah right up for it that was your Whistling noise yeah so I'll address that one first let's keep moving down the chain looks like it oh it's burning my eyes I think I see them thanks man yeah it does stink every time every every time it smells the same you notice every time it smells the same Adam knows go off we come right next to me hey do you have any other smoke devices I got a strawberry straight from the heart today you started it I ended it oh I see it nice yeah I do but I don't know how to fix it damn once the intercoolers on the top they start looking the same there's a there's like a hole in there this is Adam's spec did you see you guys know yeah I did put that there it was vibrating thank you yes there's like a ayak or something on the side oh and it just yeah that's like bad I don't know how to fix that though without pulling the whole throttle body off and wrap myself no no and I kind of tend to just pull it all out since I know how to do it yeah then I can just address everything out of the car but doing this but it's so cluttered I think I'm better off to just pull the whole entire fold off might as well Vape around it while I'm in there and do a full engine refresh you know yeah I might as well oh the oil pump thing that's new to me the rod here I've never experienced one of these before it actually works on this car so what appeared to be lead game was this thing in here there's like a gasket that's split I'm assuming this is some sort of Hayak thing it'll probably replace all these vacuum lines while I'm in here all these caps are probably split this one's definitely split it's just bulging it just way easier to access everything so this thing is uh common in a lot of like 90s cars basically coolant runs to it then it has a system of vacuum lines and like a little almost like a wastegate actuator down here that will raise the idle up when the car is cold uh seeing as it doesn't have a coolant line going to it's not really doing anything so it'd be nice to delete it but I don't have a delete plate so I'm going to take them all off inspect the gasket it's probably kind of messed up and then just reseal it but while I'm in here I can change all these stupid little vacuum caps to make sure these are all good to go then this looks like it's going to need uh probably fresh seal looks like it's just some silicone on there right now but the Datsun just does this like deleted with some sort of delete plate or something yeah so I just need to find a way to seal this up I don't know how things escalate now I will Vapor home I don't really understand what both holes do I think this one doesn't do anything but just to play it safe I'm Gonna Fill both with silicone because I don't really feel confident with the mating surface of this so I'm just going to give it as much possible stuff to Bear onto as it can I guess I could technically suck in the silicone but we don't care the motor will take it foreign raised up a little bit thank you decided to finally hopefully make some clean holes with this thing so that's just this I think I smoke tested both sides of the system those are good now I think I'm pretty happy with it yeah light years better maybe I should do that outside probably yeah maybe up all right so the key is making sure the air fuels are 11 or under and the Boost doesn't go for 14 pounds all that works we're safe either one of those is wrong rotary's man so if I hear the wastegate open we're good the wastegate doesn't open that means they're just trying to make 30 pounds 15 pounds air fuels like mid nines not ideal but we'll take it hey the wastegate's working the wastegate's working it felt a little bit more responsive than before I want to go drifted it's not bad right oh just broke up a little bit in the second year let me do another poll to see what's going on Really Gonna stick this on the dyno yeah so it wants to make too much boost in the higher gears which tells me I need to change a wastegate spring because the waste gets open it's working now but in higher gears it wants to make like 22 pounds which yeah not safe on pump gas so I'll take a wastegate spring out I just don't know how I guess this car always had boost leaks so they probably over sprung it to compensate for the Boost leaks now the Boost leaks are fixed I need to change the gate first gear sounds cool it does 16 ounces per minute so what we're shooting for so I pulled the gate out thinking maybe it had too high of a spring in it although understanding that it was overusing higher gears usually has to do with boobs creep usually has to do with Boost creep I didn't even think about the fact that the wastegate here has this far off of the manifold so in rotaries it's really hard to control boosts so you want to have really optimal wastegate placement ideally feeding off both Runners as close as you can to The Collector this is as far away as possible so rather than re-engineering the entire manifold which is like a multiple day process I'm gonna try switching up this gate for turbosmart 45. now you can see on the inside how much more surface area there is and the actual like porting on the bottom of the turbosmart valve I think it probably will flow as if it was like a 10 millimeter bigger gate which may not be the ultimate solution but if it gives us a little bit better control I can also Band-Aid it with a little bit smaller spring but it's like a decent size difference so all right gonna go for a ride with the new turbosmart gate in conveniently enough Chelsea happens to be in town are you a big FC guy yeah yeah what do you think about these things they're sweet your hat looks real good with it oh yeah it matches I'm off brand right now I know I got your AC cap in here hey I know you've been in some fast cars but dude you know they sell Bluetooth conversions for these now they're pretty cool Chelsea knows a lot about everything ah I just research everything that is true it's cool you're you're a great wealth of knowledge so Chelsea's also really smart when it comes to tunes and I'm letting you know this thing is a little Rich right now I'd rather be rich than lean I can smell it at idle yeah it does she's she's a rich girl first year is money I went to a slightly softer wastegate spring so it makes like 12 13 pounds which is super safe and second gear just up towards the top it creeps like 16 which I'm cool with because it's like nine eight for air fuel so 980. yeah leaving some power on the table there listen I need bro you need like a computer cable to hook up I know Microtech in it oh yeah it's like an LLC 10 or something are you ready yes oh she's definitely a bit fat that's new that's new it works great it's probably the plugs from idling just keep it in revs and clean it out I'll just say do some D cells that's what we'll clean it out that's a new thing for me well you idled it for like 10 minutes while you were getting fuel and all that yeah that sucks I was all excited he was talking about the tune so I was like no foul that easy yeah so just decel and that'll clean them yeah so I get up to speed and then give it like a REV and D cell like free Revit no just to D cell off of The Game Gear yeah just like that or go to First and do it again there you go because it just blows a bunch of air through the motor there you go dude oh my God oh that was really useful remember when I said that you know a lot of useful things I don't put new plugs in anything ever all right you ready all right still a little bit oh that's gonna make me big sad you need a spark plug cleaner invest damn sure enough Chelsea was right and these plugs are toast all right new plugs it was still breaking up so I leaned it out a little bit with a fuel pressure regulator since I can't plug in zcu she's good now someone you hear what it sounds like a 16 pounds of boost right Booth yep 16 pounds of Booth it's not it's not that fast but it's fast enough foreign fun with it and most importantly do some drifts sounds great yeah still running a bit Rich breaking up a tiny bit so I'm gonna probably call it a quits until I can actually get that special cables I can plug this thing in actually I think I'm gonna put a different ECU in it and then I'm going to retune it and then we'll see what it can really do because it's definitely not all the 400 horsepower but it's way better than it was when I got it all right guys so now that I have shown you both cars I really want to know your opinion which is the keeper is it this one that needs a little Bodywork paint job and then some Vargas special magic underneath the hood or is it this one that's a driver car and something that I can enjoy for a while until I decide to dive in it further with that being said I'm also not opposed to entertaining finding another Red Turbo 2 even though I rarely have time to reply I always check the DMS that you guys send me on Instagram so if you find something cool send it there I'm not asking you to go on a hunt and send me every car listed on the internet ever but if something pops up and you know it's a good deal or something special I'll take a look at it but I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot with these two cars here tomorrow I'm off to pull in for drift Masters so I imagine there'll be a little bit of a lull while I'm traveling and getting all set up over there I'm excited to show you guys a car that I'm driving there I get to get a little test day and make sure everything feels up to snuff but yeah thank you guys for watching I've already had a lot of fun driving this car around me and Coletta put some miles on we've gone to the park with the dogs and dinner and a bunch of stuff blend uh Estes are a Vibe I kind of want to build a track car FC but that'll be something else for another discussion and video and I also have like 8 000 other cards I have to build first so I have a problem I recognize the problem I admit I have a problem and I hope you guys enjoy watching me and my problem when it comes to cars thank you I'll see you soon all right guess what time it is baby it's time for you to get in there for a chance to win this FDR seven to fifteen thousand dollars cash because it ends tonight at midnight head over to lzmfg or drift HQ pick up something sweet and get enter for a chance to win every five dollars you spend as an entry we've got they're desperate for money or the car's upon them and we're gonna find out today now before I go into car number two a little brief story time this was probably the most unideal car buying scenario ever but luckily knowing Vargas I had some confidence I went there I saw a 400 horsepower Dyno sheet it looked Jagged so I was like not expecting much out of the car but I had good parts I was like whatever it's cool car checks out paint's pretty good everything looks good under the engine base I'm like screw it let's go for a drive let me just make sure it like sounds healthy we go for a drive and I kid you not this is the slowest car I've probably ever driven he let me drive and I felt like such a jerk when I told him I was like yo I'm sorry dude but whoever told you this thing has 400 horsepower it has like 150 if you're lucky I've got a pretty big I've got a pretty good butt Dyno because I've been in so many different cars he didn't believe me and he was saying that uh you know it just maybe he never steps on it and it's just always been like this but I was like yo I'm gonna pull over I'm gonna look because something's really wrong sure enough there's a coupler on top where the top mount intercooler is it's split in half so I'm like listen man if I was a jerk I would have just told you the motor was hurt but let's fix it you got a coupler so I fix it take it out for another drive it actually makes boost now but the problem is it makes way too much boost it wanted to go to the Moon luckily the fueling was super rich and I was able to let out because I saw that it was going over like 20 pounds on pump gas and I was like your way scale lines are probably split so took it back verified wastegate lines are split and in this scenario I probably should not have bought the car knowing that it had that major issue with it who knows how many times it had done a pull with Wii skate line split I felt better that the dude didn't even know that it felt down on power maybe he thought it was broken and that's why he was selling it to me I'm gonna give the dude the benefit of the doubt because he was a super nice guy I actually really enjoyed talking to him and I even told him I was like listen dude anyone else would have just beat you up over your price and told you that the motor was blown so they could get the car even cheaper and even after diagging two major things with the car he was firm on his price so I told him that's cool dude I'm not gonna buy the car but I'm gonna invoice you for my time that uh I spent fixing your car kind of half joking and he was cool and he came down a little bit and I wound up taking the car home super nice guy I really for whatever reason even though it's like the worst and most annoying thing I enjoy taking on other people's projects because diagnosing and finding and fixing things is one of my favorite pastimes especially when a car is like 80 percent the way there like the Datsun I'd spend very little and I was able to use what it had to make it super fun and even better and hopefully this car is like that so let me show you what we're working with now unlike this car that has 30 000 miles and three owners this car has 80 000 miles and like seven or eight owners so a little bit nervous knowing that this car spent some time on Connecticut that it might have some Rust and I probably should mention this car is pretty much Flawless underneath a tiny bit of surface rust in the front of the frame rail pinch welds are a little bit so-so like no rust but you could tell that someone jacked up on it before this car is probably just as clean underneath uh apart from probably having slightly better pinch welds on the car so this one you'll see even on camera the paint is much better I was told it was original paint but I'm a paint nerd and I could tell that definitely some stuff's been resprayed the dead giveaway to me is that non-metallic Mazdas were all single stage so for this car to have what looks like some clear coat failure on the door is a bit weird the exciting thing though is I have already taken a grios polisher and a little bit of fast correcting cream to the hood and it cleans up really nice you can see uh this lighting doesn't really do the best Justice pretty mucked up over here over here I started to hit it with a like single step and it cleans up really good this one one absolutely not perfect by any means when we're talking about the body however I can see myself driving this and enjoying it for a while before it gets a full refresh other one I mean I could drive both and enjoy both so that sounds a little bit ridiculous this one I feel like is up to par for a driver's car all right we'll show you walking around a little bit the spoiler is black instead of red it doesn't have louvers but overall all of the the trims and all the little details are pretty good all of the Reds match even if some stuff might have been repainted about the the biggest issue or flaw I could really say on the outside of this car is that it has like little Dent here I think it's got like one little Dent maybe here but I'll show you both cars kind of uh man they both look so good I'm being honest this one you like interior I feel like is the way harder thing to find and Source just because of uh the fact that these cars are old and brittle the inside on this one I would say is pretty dang close to the other one still Immaculate I feel like there's a little bit more wear showing in the seat but still no stains the interior is all there uh pretty much Flawless I'll show you real quick back to back we've got this interior we'll come over now we'll look at this interior pretty much identical but like I was saying there's a little bit more structure to the seat here this one uh you can tell it's a little bit more been ridden in but this thing does have one thing that I feel like makes it worth just as much as the other car because I paid pretty much the same exact price this one obviously has more miles let's call it a little bit cleaner on the outside but underneath the hood I actually think that this car might have been a better deal because it's not stock which I'm torn about right I want to build an FC but I know that buying these cars building an FC is going to be far down the chopping block I still want to build my own FD this is just one thing that I just want to find the right car so that when I'm ready to build one I've got it on Deck but this one while I'm waiting to build it I can enjoy it because she's not bought she's built wait she's built not bought I bought it built you know what I'm trying to say definitely not as clean as the OEM Survivor but this thing has some pretty cool bits like an aftermarket turbo custom top mount intercooler which is kind of neat and most importantly this engine has been studded has a Street Port it's got an ECU all the fuel lines have been redone brand new fuel tank got a good fuel pump in it so this thing allegedly made 400 horsepower and can be enjoyed and driven in its current state and still be fast enough that it's uh not a slouch like old girl over here another noteworthy thing that's also kind of surprising is that both cars still have all ac lines this one is working AC this one had working AC but uh I thought it needed a recharge and well you'll see I have some footage that I'm gonna put after here of me diagnosing and fixing a couple things with the car the spoiler alert they see compressor locked up so this one doesn't have a working AC for now just a little weekend maintenance charging up the AC system starting to replace the vacuum lines that I know are melted and I'm going to ditch this ugly little short filter put a nice k n one on there it had a weird thing where the fan was always stuck on and sure enough is actually a faulty relay that was causing it to basically bypass the relay um I've got a whole cluster to go through here but in the meantime replacing the relay fix the fan situation so it shouldn't have that battery draw anymore I'm pretty happy with the cleanliness underneath this one very very minimal I mean practically no rust this area of the frame rail looks like it has a little bit of surface rust but it appears to be just on the surface uh most importantly all the vacuum lines going to the wastegate as I suspected are melted I don't know if you guys can see but I'll verify ones are off and interestingly enough there's no uh there's no dump here which is a first I've never seen anyone run it like that but I guess it's okay for now here's the line that went to the top of the gate got a nice little hole right there I always check the wheels for play and sure enough this one it's gonna be hard to show you but it has a loose wheel bearing so I'll snug that up and this is the line going to the side of the gate interestingly enough these fittings you might see drag racers use and they hold a ridiculous amount of boost but the line that's used with the push lock fittings uh is very very fragile when it comes to heat so I don't recommend it I always like to use vibrant silicone hose with the worm style pinch clamps zip ties can melt and it seems to work best for us if we aren't going the full and line route like on the race cars but this stuff jump and sure enough nut is literally ham loose good thing I had a powder pin in it well I didn't even get a chance to film a clip of me doing a pull in this thing because instantly after I drifted it one time successfully and wished that I filmed it the way skate started getting stuck again so I just went through the lines again and just deleted the entire boost controller routing so I'm just going straight to the gate now and I figured while I'm in here I might as well check for Boost leaks and sure enough hello boost leaks but the problem is it has a super super cool top mount intercooler that blocks every single thing that I can have access to so I'm gonna take it off and then see if I can get away with like plugging both sides to see if I can figure out what's going on underneath um because that would probably explain why the car feels a bit laggier than I'd expect although you guys haven't seen any footage of it driving so um taking my word for it it just took my word for it you know the Datsun yeah take Mike's work wait have you been in it yeah dude I've been ripping this thing really no okay I still think the best thing is the dude own this car forever and had no idea that it was only making half of the power that you thought it was making I will give props it was made pretty serviceable so that's cool two bolts and then I think there's one bolt in the back and I think the whole top mount configuration should come off foreign deteriorated that I was like I wouldn't be surprised if these ones were hella split but uh they actually don't look too bad so what I'll do now is I'll grab the good old-fashioned smoke tester pop her on and start sniffing around seeing what we can find luckily I've just been doing quite a bit of intake manifold stuff on the Datsun so I'm kind of familiar with all the little vacuum ports and stuff otherwise this thing would be a nightmare because there's like three little ports here three little ports here two vacuum lines go underneath the intake manifold and one of them is leaking so this couple you see this coupler is looking pretty bad yeah right up for it that was your Whistling noise yeah so I'll address that one first let's keep moving down the chain looks like it oh it's burning my eyes I think I see them thanks man yeah it does stink every time every every time it smells the same you notice every time it smells the same Adam knows go off we come right next to me hey do you have any other smoke devices I got a strawberry straight from the heart today you started it I ended it oh I see it nice yeah I do but I don't know how to fix it damn once the intercoolers on the top they start looking the same there's a there's like a hole in there this is Adam's spec did you see you guys know yeah I did put that there it was vibrating thank you yes there's like a ayak or something on the side oh and it just yeah that's like bad I don't know how to fix that though without pulling the whole throttle body off and wrap myself no no and I kind of tend to just pull it all out since I know how to do it yeah then I can just address everything out of the car but doing this but it's so cluttered I think I'm better off to just pull the whole entire fold off might as well Vape around it while I'm in there and do a full engine refresh you know yeah I might as well oh the oil pump thing that's new to me the rod here I've never experienced one of these before it actually works on this car so what appeared to be lead game was this thing in here there's like a gasket that's split I'm assuming this is some sort of Hayak thing it'll probably replace all these vacuum lines while I'm in here all these caps are probably split this one's definitely split it's just bulging it just way easier to access everything so this thing is uh common in a lot of like 90s cars basically coolant runs to it then it has a system of vacuum lines and like a little almost like a wastegate actuator down here that will raise the idle up when the car is cold uh seeing as it doesn't have a coolant line going to it's not really doing anything so it'd be nice to delete it but I don't have a delete plate so I'm going to take them all off inspect the gasket it's probably kind of messed up and then just reseal it but while I'm in here I can change all these stupid little vacuum caps to make sure these are all good to go then this looks like it's going to need uh probably fresh seal looks like it's just some silicone on there right now but the Datsun just does this like deleted with some sort of delete plate or something yeah so I just need to find a way to seal this up I don't know how things escalate now I will Vapor home I don't really understand what both holes do I think this one doesn't do anything but just to play it safe I'm Gonna Fill both with silicone because I don't really feel confident with the mating surface of this so I'm just going to give it as much possible stuff to Bear onto as it can I guess I could technically suck in the silicone but we don't care the motor will take it foreign raised up a little bit thank you decided to finally hopefully make some clean holes with this thing so that's just this I think I smoke tested both sides of the system those are good now I think I'm pretty happy with it yeah light years better maybe I should do that outside probably yeah maybe up all right so the key is making sure the air fuels are 11 or under and the Boost doesn't go for 14 pounds all that works we're safe either one of those is wrong rotary's man so if I hear the wastegate open we're good the wastegate doesn't open that means they're just trying to make 30 pounds 15 pounds air fuels like mid nines not ideal but we'll take it hey the wastegate's working the wastegate's working it felt a little bit more responsive than before I want to go drifted it's not bad right oh just broke up a little bit in the second year let me do another poll to see what's going on Really Gonna stick this on the dyno yeah so it wants to make too much boost in the higher gears which tells me I need to change a wastegate spring because the waste gets open it's working now but in higher gears it wants to make like 22 pounds which yeah not safe on pump gas so I'll take a wastegate spring out I just don't know how I guess this car always had boost leaks so they probably over sprung it to compensate for the Boost leaks now the Boost leaks are fixed I need to change the gate first gear sounds cool it does 16 ounces per minute so what we're shooting for so I pulled the gate out thinking maybe it had too high of a spring in it although understanding that it was overusing higher gears usually has to do with boobs creep usually has to do with Boost creep I didn't even think about the fact that the wastegate here has this far off of the manifold so in rotaries it's really hard to control boosts so you want to have really optimal wastegate placement ideally feeding off both Runners as close as you can to The Collector this is as far away as possible so rather than re-engineering the entire manifold which is like a multiple day process I'm gonna try switching up this gate for turbosmart 45. now you can see on the inside how much more surface area there is and the actual like porting on the bottom of the turbosmart valve I think it probably will flow as if it was like a 10 millimeter bigger gate which may not be the ultimate solution but if it gives us a little bit better control I can also Band-Aid it with a little bit smaller spring but it's like a decent size difference so all right gonna go for a ride with the new turbosmart gate in conveniently enough Chelsea happens to be in town are you a big FC guy yeah yeah what do you think about these things they're sweet your hat looks real good with it oh yeah it matches I'm off brand right now I know I got your AC cap in here hey I know you've been in some fast cars but dude you know they sell Bluetooth conversions for these now they're pretty cool Chelsea knows a lot about everything ah I just research everything that is true it's cool you're you're a great wealth of knowledge so Chelsea's also really smart when it comes to tunes and I'm letting you know this thing is a little Rich right now I'd rather be rich than lean I can smell it at idle yeah it does she's she's a rich girl first year is money I went to a slightly softer wastegate spring so it makes like 12 13 pounds which is super safe and second gear just up towards the top it creeps like 16 which I'm cool with because it's like nine eight for air fuel so 980. yeah leaving some power on the table there listen I need bro you need like a computer cable to hook up I know Microtech in it oh yeah it's like an LLC 10 or something are you ready yes oh she's definitely a bit fat that's new that's new it works great it's probably the plugs from idling just keep it in revs and clean it out I'll just say do some D cells that's what we'll clean it out that's a new thing for me well you idled it for like 10 minutes while you were getting fuel and all that yeah that sucks I was all excited he was talking about the tune so I was like no foul that easy yeah so just decel and that'll clean them yeah so I get up to speed and then give it like a REV and D cell like free Revit no just to D cell off of The Game Gear yeah just like that or go to First and do it again there you go because it just blows a bunch of air through the motor there you go dude oh my God oh that was really useful remember when I said that you know a lot of useful things I don't put new plugs in anything ever all right you ready all right still a little bit oh that's gonna make me big sad you need a spark plug cleaner invest damn sure enough Chelsea was right and these plugs are toast all right new plugs it was still breaking up so I leaned it out a little bit with a fuel pressure regulator since I can't plug in zcu she's good now someone you hear what it sounds like a 16 pounds of boost right Booth yep 16 pounds of Booth it's not it's not that fast but it's fast enough foreign fun with it and most importantly do some drifts sounds great yeah still running a bit Rich breaking up a tiny bit so I'm gonna probably call it a quits until I can actually get that special cables I can plug this thing in actually I think I'm gonna put a different ECU in it and then I'm going to retune it and then we'll see what it can really do because it's definitely not all the 400 horsepower but it's way better than it was when I got it all right guys so now that I have shown you both cars I really want to know your opinion which is the keeper is it this one that needs a little Bodywork paint job and then some Vargas special magic underneath the hood or is it this one that's a driver car and something that I can enjoy for a while until I decide to dive in it further with that being said I'm also not opposed to entertaining finding another Red Turbo 2 even though I rarely have time to reply I always check the DMS that you guys send me on Instagram so if you find something cool send it there I'm not asking you to go on a hunt and send me every car listed on the internet ever but if something pops up and you know it's a good deal or something special I'll take a look at it but I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot with these two cars here tomorrow I'm off to pull in for drift Masters so I imagine there'll be a little bit of a lull while I'm traveling and getting all set up over there I'm excited to show you guys a car that I'm driving there I get to get a little test day and make sure everything feels up to snuff but yeah thank you guys for watching I've already had a lot of fun driving this car around me and Coletta put some miles on we've gone to the park with the dogs and dinner and a bunch of stuff blend uh Estes are a Vibe I kind of want to build a track car FC but that'll be something else for another discussion and video and I also have like 8 000 other cards I have to build first so I have a problem I recognize the problem I admit I have a problem and I hope you guys enjoy watching me and my problem when it comes to cars thank you I'll see you soon all right guess what time it is baby it's time for you to get in there for a chance to win this FDR seven to fifteen thousand dollars cash because it ends tonight at midnight head over to lzmfg or drift HQ pick up something sweet and get enter for a chance to win every five dollars you spend as an entry we've got coilovers Heatwave sunglasses amazing merch and it all Ends Tonight so what are
