A New Update for iOS 14.3: Exploring the Latest Features and Changes
The first developer beta of iOS 14.3 has arrived, and with it comes a plethora of new features, changes, and updates that are sure to excite iPhone users. As Andrew explains in the video, this update is not just a minor tweak but a significant departure from the previous version of the operating system.
One of the most notable additions to iOS 14.3 is the introduction of a default search engine option for Safari. Users can now choose between Google, Bing, or Yahoo as their new default search engine, and for those who want an environmentally friendly alternative, there's Ecosia. The Ecosia search engine uses its profits to plant trees, making it a great choice for those concerned about the environment.
Another exciting feature that iOS 14.3 brings is the option to enable Apple Pro Raw in the Camera app. This new image format combines the benefits of Apple's computational photography with the benefits of raw images, allowing users to capture more detailed and nuanced photos. When this option is enabled, a new toggle appears in the top corner of the camera app, allowing users to switch between standard photo mode and Apple Pro Raw.
The Camera app also sees some other changes, including a new icon for the Live Photos option. For those who may not be familiar with the term, Apple Pro Raw refers to a new image format that captures highlights and shadows in more detail than standard photos. The files produced using this format can be up to 25 megabytes in size, which is significantly larger than the files generated by standard photo mode.
In addition to these camera-related changes, iOS 14.3 also brings some exciting updates to the Health app. One of the new categories added is Cardio Fitness Notifications, which provides users with notifications based on their VO2 max levels. This feature uses data captured from Apple Watch and requires Watch OS 7.2 to function.
Another notable update in the Health app is the addition of a second category for tracking cardiovascular fitness data. Users can now view their VO2 max data inside the Health app, providing them with more detailed insights into their physical health. The integration with Apple Watch ensures that this data is accurately captured and displayed.
Moving on to other areas of iOS 14.3, we find another exciting feature in the Shortcuts app. While this option was technically available before but has now been restored, it's still a welcome addition for those who want to create custom shortcuts. Users can now set wallpapers, both home screens and lock screens, by creating a shortcut and using the new search function.
In the Find My app, developers have added a new animation that takes users through an AirTags pairing process. This feature is designed to prepare users for the upcoming launch of Apple's AirTags, which promise to make it easier to locate lost items. The video shared by Steve Moser shows off this new pairing screen and provides some insight into how these devices will work.
The App Store also sees a few changes in iOS 14.3, including a new welcome screen that highlights app privacy details. While not the most exciting update, this change is a step towards greater transparency and user awareness when it comes to data collection and usage.
Finally, Apple has made some updates to the Home app, allowing users to update all accessories directly from one spot. This change streamlines the process of keeping devices up-to-date, reducing the need for multiple separate apps for different devices and services.
Overall, iOS 14.3 promises to be a significant update that brings numerous new features, changes, and improvements to the iPhone experience. Whether you're a seasoned user or just starting to explore your device's capabilities, there's something here for everyone.
