LG G7 ThinQ HANDS-ON Preview - Punchy Display, Thumping Sound, Feature-Rich

The LG G7 ThinQ in Q: A Deep Dive into its Features and Design

One of the first things you'll notice on the screen is the notch at the top, which is a signature feature of many modern smartphones. However, LG has added a new twist to this design by offering a second screen option that can be customized to suit your preferences. To access this setting, head to Settings and then select the Display area. From there, you'll see an option for "Second Screen." By tapping on this button, you'll notice that the notch disappears, and the screen transforms into its traditional notification mode.

But what's interesting about LG's implementation of the second screen is that it doesn't behave quite like a traditional secondary display. Instead, it allows you to customize the configuration of the notch itself. If you want to get rid of the notch altogether, simply tap on the "Custom" button, and the screen will darken, displaying the typical long bar notification area without the notch. Conversely, if you want to bring back the notch, just tap on it again.

The LG G7 ThinQ in Q is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SOC, which runs at an impressive 2.8 GHz. This is accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM, which provides ample storage for the operating system and apps. However, one of the standout features of this device is its expandable storage option, which comes in the form of a microSD card slot.

A Quick Tour of the LG G7 ThinQ

Let's take a closer look at some of the other features on this device. On the back, you'll find a 3.5mm audio jack, a microphone jack, and a USB-C port that doubles as both charging and syncing capabilities. This is complemented by a Boombox speaker port, which allows for impressive audio capabilities thanks to DTS:X 3D surround sound and LG's high-fidelity quad DAC.

Swinging around to the other side of the device, you'll find the power button and lock button on one edge, with another microphone port tucked away at the top. The SIM and microSD card tray is cleverly hidden inside a small compartment on the bottom edge of the phone.

The LG G7 ThinQ in Q boasts a 3000mAh battery that powers everything, including its impressive dual-camera setup. On the front, there's an 8MP shooter, while on the back, you'll find two 16MP sensors - one standard and one wide-angle lens. The standard camera has an f/1.6 aperture, while the wide-angle lens boasts a wider f/1.9 aperture that captures 107 degrees of field of view.

LG has cleverly configured these cameras to work together seamlessly, with the ability to switch between the two sensors on the fly. One sensor is dedicated to taking depth maps for portrait mode shots, allowing for beautiful, blurred backgrounds without having to manually adjust settings during composition. You can even edit those settings afterwards.

But what really sets this camera apart is its AI-driven capabilities. The LG G7 ThinQ in Q features an "AI Cam" mode that uses machine learning algorithms to identify objects and offer optimized shooting modes on the fly. This means you'll get better results from your shots, especially when it comes to capturing fruit or other subjects with varying lighting conditions.

Finally, let's talk about the Boombox speaker system that LG has cleverly integrated into this device. The speaker itself is located at the bottom of the phone, but due to its sealed enclosure design, you'll get deeper bass and louder volume than on many other smartphones. We put it through some rigorous testing, playing Prince's music for a few minutes, and were impressed by the sound quality that filled the room.

With all this technology packed into one device, the LG G7 ThinQ in Q is sure to impress anyone looking for a top-of-the-line smartphone experience. Whether you're a photographer, an audiophile, or just someone who wants a solid device with impressive specs and features, this phone has got it all.
