Play Real GameBoy Cartridges On Your Phone!

The Smart Boy: A Revolutionary Game Boy Emulator

I recently received a unique device that combines the nostalgia of playing classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges with the convenience of modern technology. The Smart Boy is an adapter that allows users to play their favorite retro games on their smartphones, retaining some of the classic feel while incorporating virtual aspects.

The concept of the Smart Boy started as a practical joke for April Fools' Day, but the company behind it realized that many people actually wanted this product to become a reality. As a result, they have created a fully functional device that is available for Android devices, with plans to release an iOS version in the future.

To demonstrate the Smart Boy's capabilities, I used my Galaxy S8 as a test device. The adapter was easy to install and quickly locked into place. However, I soon discovered that it didn't work with the USB-C port on my phone. Fortunately, the company is currently releasing a new version of the Smart Boy specifically designed for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, in collaboration with Samsung.

To use the Smart Boy, users need to download the application from the Play Store. The device relies on the ROM being inserted into it to play games, but instead of running directly off of the ROM, it dumps its contents into the application. This means that users are not pirating the ROM, but rather using software-wise without actually copying the data. However, in this case, the company has copied 100% of the ROM, allowing users to access their save files and continue playing.

The Smart Boy's emulation technology is surprisingly good, with games looking sharp and fluid on my phone screen. The device can even clone old game cartridges, taking them and duplicating them so that users can continue playing their favorite games on their smartphone. This feature is a major selling point for the Smart Boy, offering users a unique way to experience classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

One of the most impressive features of the Smart Boy is its ability to switch between different modes. When in "Game Boy" mode, the device behaves like an old original Game Boy, complete with the same layout and controls. However, when switched to "PC mode," the Smart Boy takes on a more modern look and feel, allowing users to play their favorite games with ease.

Overall, the Smart Boy is a unique and innovative device that offers users a way to experience classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color games in a new and exciting way. While it may not be perfect, its capabilities are certainly impressive, and its release marks an exciting development for fans of retro gaming.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys I've got something super interesting to show you today so I'm sure a lot of you guys have played Game Boy Advance emulators be able to play your classic childhood games that you remember used to play all the time on your phone super cool concept but you can also play these games on the very same device that they were created on so that's also an option so what if you want to combine both of these into one thing not a virtual but not also a fully Hardware solution solution let's go ahead and do that in this video so I'm going to show you guys the smart boy this thing I just received uh these things just recently started shipping so I was waiting a very long time to show you guys this product let me get this unboxed real quick for you and here it is so what is this essentially this is an adapter that will let your phone play Real Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges while still retaining some of that classic feel with a sort of virtual aspect to it so the funny thing is is this actually started out as a practical joke for April fools then the company that did the joke realized a lot of people actually want this to happen and now they have a fully working product for this now unfortunately although there is a concept that started out as an iPhone concept uh getting it through the App Store and getting it working was a problem so they started out with Android devices too it's unknown if there will be a full workking iOS version but for now it's just Android so I'm going to show you guys this on the Galaxy S8 since oh wait I forgot that won't work this uses a micro USB all right an adapter should actually do the trick here so pop it into here and slide it down onto here all right and that locks into place and essentially this is what we have here so it's a bit tall probably be better with the regular Galaxy but you got to go and download the application from the Play Store all right so I'm going to go ahead and start that up and kill this guy and pull this out so allow this and here we go I cannot believe I'm loading a real Game Boy cartridge and going to be playing it on my phone so that's it it just pops in so unfortunately this version does not work with the USB type-c with the Galaxy S8 but they are currently releasing actually right now a new version for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in collaboration with Samsung which is crazy so I'm going to ditch this guy for a second here and use the one it was meant for the Galaxy S7 so jumping in here I'm actually going to pop that adapter out all right so in goes this so essentially the way this works is when you insert a ROM it's not actually running off of the ROM it's just dumping all of its contents into the application so you can legally uh use it software-wise without actually pirating the ROM so you're not playing this directly you're just copying the data to your phone and then playing it there but they went ahead and copied it 100% so when you eject this it will not work anyways I am dumping the ROM right now in a moment here it should be ready to play I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't actually play these things but I think uh legal-wise with Nintendo that was probably a safe bet not to do that so it's kind of interesting that they partnered with Samsung to actually uh get this thing into stores so you're going to be seeing that very soon here all right run launch software and all right so jumping in into the ROM dump file we just did look at that so they actually cut off the screen right there and very same game you could easily get with an emulator essentially you go through all of this trouble uh just to get the you know the classic experience being able to have your ROMs the actual very similar looking layouts and a Gamepad and it even kind of gets it into color for you which is kind of cool so here we go did it actually oh wow that is so cool I did not know that it will actually clone the entire ROM and your save files so I'm essentially playing the same one I was playing here so if you guys have any old game cartridges it'll take them and clone them so you can continue playing them on your phone that is so cool and it actually works very well very fluid very sharp here so it'll work for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games uh nothing about game Boy Advance here but wow I'm actually very uh very surprised not bad so you can uh you can switch this over to PC mode here you know it's it's just like an old Game Boy like the original so that's a really cool uh concept you know I don't see the point of this other than a cool factor and getting your old game saves onto your phone but that is super cool so yeah there you go guys that is the smart boy going to be available for the Galaxy S8 and S8 plus soon just that to show you guys something really neat on the hardware emulation sort of type of side hope you guys enjoyed the video let me know what you think something you'd be interested in or would you stick with regular old Advanced or Game Boy Color emulators all right guys peacewhat's up guys I've got something super interesting to show you today so I'm sure a
