The Driving Experience with MTR's Stage 2 Golf 8R
As I stepped into the car, I could feel the excitement building up inside me. The MTR Golf 8R, with its stage two performance upgrade, was ready to take me on a thrilling ride. The first thing that caught my attention was the sound of the engine. With the factory exhaust system being replaced by the Miltech 200 cell exhaust, the car's exhaust note has become more mechanical and pleasing to the ear.
I decided to try out the "Nürburgring" mode, which allows for manual shifting and features a hard rev limiter that kicks in at 500 RPM. This added to the overall driving experience of the car, allowing me to feel the torque and power going through the rear axle. The suspension felt softer in this mode, which was necessary due to the track's uneven surface. However, the ride remained comfortable and compliant, making it suitable for both on-track driving and everyday street use.
The sound system of the car was also impressive, with a crisp and sharp response that allowed me to feel every detail of the engine noise. The big shift paddles on the gear lever were another nice touch, adding to the overall sense of control and precision that this car offers. I took the car out for a spin on the autobahn, where it truly came alive.

A visit to the Hall of Germany was next on my agenda, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a short visit, as we were all set to leave after just 100-200 kilometers. Despite its short run-in with me, I had enough time to experience the car's capabilities firsthand and get a good feel for what it has to offer.

so you've already seen the video title it's 435 horsepower you might think five horsepower for a stage two compared to a stage one that seems a little low right in terms of increase well I completely agree but this is really about the Driving Experience so apparently you know top horsepower like the very top isn't all that different stage one compared to stage two but the whole Driving Experience is way different and I'm going to show you in this video that's why we do review videos we have the static videos with just the draging numbers and the sound of course uh but in the review video I can definitely tell more about the experience which I think is the most important thing about a car so we have Michela pilot sport fors tires very good performance Breaks by vwr which is actually now a separate brand so you have VW gmbh and vwr I'm going to uh skip all the exterior Parts because you know it's quite the same as the last one except for this has this also has the cpov exhaust but it's now linked to a 200 cell down pipe which I'm going to show you guys well it's not very visible the down pie but audible it is still can't believe it doesn't have a stra wow this is freaking hot here we have the new 2 L TSI engine by Volkswagen uh stock it has 320 horsepower which is only a 10 horsepower increase compared to the 7.5r but let me tell you this engine is so much better really like also the DSG it's just fantastic how it feels and it feels so much more alive and Vivid and strong and Punchy especially with a tune so there we have a miltech downpipe with a 200 cell catalytic converter a racing line intake which apparently does a lot and we have a Wagner intercooler upgrade so stock these have 320 horsepower and 420 newm of torque there you go to a stage one which is 430 horsepower and 550 NTM and then this stage two as I said a 5 horsepower increase 435 horsepower and 585 NTM again it might not seem like a lot and in terms of performance it's also not a lot actually we're doing like the same numbers as with the stage one but it's a bit hotter out today than uh you know a few months ago so that does make a difference but you know you don't get a tune just to make a car faster you also get a tune and you get parts to like really amplify the whole Driving Experience and that has really been done very well I mean just the sound the acrapovic is the factory acrapovic but we know no longer have an OPF we no longer have a big fat cat just a small one and you can just feel when you go on it it is just way better and way nicer to just flow you know so we are going for the special mode the nurur ring mode which uh lets you do all the shifting by yourself which is new for an 8r it actually has like a hard Rev limiter and you get 500 RPM extra which is also very nice so apparently especially with a tune this is the falsest mode for the 8r so like last time I did the MTR golf 8r I thought okay I'm going to approach these guys and see if they have a stage two golf 8r uh and they did so Carston the owner was kind enough to come all the way here and to let me test drive this now as you can see that DSG with that little tune is just so Snappy it is super quick very good very good you can feel in this Nur ring mode that the suspension is a little softer which makes sense because the nurur ring is far from a perfect track when it comes to tarmac and po holes and stuff like that so you need that little suspension travel to cope with uh with the track and like also on a street on a B- Road it's a very nice mode to be in very compliant but very vivot at the same time you can feel you can feel that torque factoring going on on the rear axle it also has a drift mode oh just hitting that little rev limiter right there let's open up the rear windows and check out so that's the um ESP interfering like the diarrhea sound so let's turn that off let's go to car and we get that's this is the weirdest way to turn off ESC in any car so you have to go to exterior here then swipe right brakes which is where you turn off the ESC like what should be a big fat button right here right in an R but it's such a smooth and Powerful Driving Experience I mean it already was with the 7R but the 8r I really like this car it has become such a better driver's car in my experience I get more feedback from the hardware from the entire car the DSG very nice big shift paddles Which is also a nice upgrade and on the autoban it is just perfect with the MTR stage 2 it is just Relentless it will just keep going so let's hope we get a bit of space because apparently the Hall of Germany is going to the Netherlands on this Saturday morning oh that's so good that's just 250 like it's absolutely nothing could you maybe please move on over thank you you always have to stay kind on the autoban no aggression so 100 to 200 little over 9 seconds but it is just so free flowing with this stage two look at how fast it is honestly that's freaking insane you can feel like the body roll in nerving mode Let's try race mode right there yeah you can feel it tightening down I love what VW did with this car it is such a better performance car than the last one I mean like also the power steering and stuff I get more feedback I know the interior of the 7.5 is a bit nicer I completely agree but the hardware in an 8r is just very good very good that miltech 200 cell really has brought the crap ofage exhaust to life oh it's always a bit different in terms of you know those little pops they're very mechanical in that sense I I really like that it's not like with an A45 that's good okay let's see how fast we can do this piece right here that's work those PS4 s's little on steer right there very good it's a fantastic car really I would get like an estate version of this tomorrow if I were looking for a new car which I'm sort of not so but this would be definitely on my short list a Golf R has never been on my short list but this MTR performance stage 2 8r I'm just so impressed with the whole package it is a way nicer car even nicer than that stage one which was super uh but from a Driving Experience this stage two just is a bit next level for me and I really really appreciate what they've done uh the guys at MTR told me like okay the the performance and the horsepower and stuff like that it's a result it's not a goal those tuners for
