Unboxing the Google Nexus 10
The box itself is standard Nexus branding, with the logo very similar to the Nexus 7. On one side, you have the Samsung logo and the Nexus 10 logo, indicating that this is a Samsung device designed for Google's Nexus series. The back of the box features key specs, including the 10-inch display resolution of 2560 x 1600, or "well i think i believe it's the highest of any tablet out there right now". This high-resolution display is likely to be one of the standout features of the Nexus 10.
The box sleeve is a sleek black design, with minimal room for contents. The seal is broken quickly, revealing the device and some additional packaging. A small amount of dust accumulation suggests that this device may have been handled before being shipped out. Once removed from the sleeve, it becomes clear that the Nexus 10 is a slim and lightweight device, weighing in at just 598 grams.
Inside the box, you'll find a USB cable, some paperwork, and an adapter for charging the device. The adapter is designed for the UK market, with three-pin prongs. The contents of the box are relatively sparse, suggesting that this may be a minimal unboxing experience. A small note on the packaging mentions that it's designed to be compact and portable.
The Nexus 10 itself is a striking device, with its 10-inch display taking center stage. The front-facing speakers are located above the screen, which is an unusual placement for a tablet. This design choice suggests that the device may prioritize audio quality over traditional speaker placements. A small plastic strip covers the top of the device's back, which can be removed to reveal more details.
The backing material on the Nexus 10 has a tacky texture, designed to provide a secure grip when held in the hand. The material is smooth to the touch and provides a comfortable feel in the palm. A small logo appears near the bottom of the device, featuring the Google Nexus branding alongside Samsung's logo.
Rear-facing camera with flash: Rear-facing camera features a small flash unit, which may be used for taking photos or videos. The camera itself is positioned near the top-right corner of the device, allowing it to be easily accessed when taking selfies or recording video.
Volume rockers and power button: Located on the top-right corner of the device are the volume rockers and power button. These controls provide easy access to adjusting volume levels and turning the device on/off.
Micro-USB and 3.5mm jack: A micro-USB port is positioned on the bottom-left side of the device, allowing for charging via a USB cable. The 3.5mm audio jack is also located on this side, providing access to external audio sources like headphones or speakers.
Pogo pin dock connector: The Nexus 10 includes a pogo pin dock connector, which allows it to be easily connected to compatible docks and accessories. This feature provides flexibility when using the device in different settings, such as charging it in a designated dock or connecting peripherals via USB.
Welcome screen with UK region setting: When switching on the device, the user is presented with a welcome screen that automatically detects the region and sets it to United Kingdom by default. The system also prompts the user to sign in with their Google account, which allows access to various features and settings.
