**Unboxing and First Impressions of Micromax Canvas Express**
The device quickly pops out of its packaging and onto our work surface, revealing its sleek design and features. On the front, we have a 5-inch 720p display that offers good resolution for a price point of Rs. 5,999. The Android control buttons are located on screen, with a bottom lip that serves no real purpose. The top of the device has a noise cancellation microphone, while the right side features a power button and volume rocker.
**Device Specifications**
Running everything is an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chipset, accompanied by a Mali 450 MP GPU. This chipset boasts an octa-core CPU, ensuring that all device functions are handled efficiently. The device is powered by a 2500 milliamp hour battery and comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM, along with 32GB of microSD card expandability. When we power on the device, it boots up to Android 4.4, with an upgrade possibility to Android Lollipop.
**User Interface and Software Features**
The device's user interface is a generic sort of Android ecosystem, with some pre-loaded applications and widgets that can be uninstalled as per requirements. However, not all of these pre-installed apps can be removed, leaving some bloatware on the device. Fortunately, the company has stated that an update to Android Lollipop will be pushed out in the near future, which should improve the overall user experience.
**Camera and Display Capabilities**
The rear camera is a 13-megapixel sensor with an f2 lens, offering excellent low-light photography capabilities. The camera also features 1080p video recording and dual LED flash, ensuring that users can capture good images even in low-light conditions. Additionally, the device has a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, which may not be as exciting but still provides decent performance.
**Hands-On Experience**
When we loaded up our website on the browser (Google Chrome), we noticed a slight lag in opening webpages and slightly longer load times compared to other devices. However, this is something that will likely improve with an update to Android Lollipop. Playing back a video from YouTube revealed a decent speaker volume, although it was slightly disappointing.
**Additional Features**
On the back of the device, we have the main 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, ensuring that users can capture good images in various lighting conditions. The device also features a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right side and the power button and volume rocker on the same side.
**Availability and Pricing**
The Micromax Canvas Express is set to go on sale on August 4th, exclusively on Flipkart.com. The device will be available for Rs. 5,999, offering great value for its features and price point.
