iOS 18.1 Features, Insane M4 MacBook Pro LEAK, Apple's New Release Strategy, & More
Apple's Latest Product Launches and Strategy: A Look at What's Coming and Going
In a recent report from German, a prominent Apple analyst, there is some exciting news about upcoming Apple product launches. The report suggests that we can expect to see new devices such as the redesigned Mac Mini, the M4 iMac, and a new iPad Mini launch in the near future. However, it seems that the M4 Mac Studio and Mac Pro will not be making an appearance until 2025.
German also predicts that Apple's new alleged products strategy moving forward may involve shifting away from its annual product upgrade cycle. This is partly due to the success of Apple Intelligence, which allows users to launch devices only when they're ready to be launched, rather than sticking to a specific deadline. The analyst believes that this approach will make it easier for Apple to release products that are truly ready, rather than rushing them out to meet a predetermined schedule.
The recent software blunders experienced by Apple, such as the Apple Watch SE's transition from a 2-year to a 3-year release cycle, also support German's argument. It seems that the increasing number of products and software has made it difficult for Apple to stick to a traditional product upgrade cycle. This change in strategy will likely result in more substantial differences between generations of devices, making upgrades feel more significant.
However, not all Apple products will be affected by this new approach. The iPhone is still expected to receive its yearly refresh, as it is a device that needs to be updated regularly to stay competitive. In contrast, Macs, iPads, and other devices may be released at different times, independent of traditional events like WWDC and the iPhone launch.
German's prediction suggests that this staggered release strategy could encourage more innovation and potentially increase the number of people upgrading their devices. While it's unclear whether this will lead to increased innovation, the analyst believes that the unpredictability brought by this new approach is sure to be exciting for Apple fans. With the traditional product upgrade cycle being phased out, we can expect a more unpredictable future from Apple.
Air Tag Story: A Local Business Owner Foils Thieves with Stolen Tools
In a remarkable story of determination and technology, a local business owner in Utah was able to foil thieves who had stolen $6,500 worth of tools from his work truck. The businessman, who has been running his own company for over 40 years, knew exactly what to do when he discovered that one of the tool cases containing an air tag had been stolen.
The air tag had been hidden in a tool case five years ago, and ever since then, it had been tracking the location of the tools. When the thief's truck was found with the air tag still attached, the device provided German with a live location of the thieves. The businessman quickly sprang into action, contacting the police and confronting the thieves at their doorstep.
However, things took an unexpected turn when the 26-year-old thief claimed that he didn't know anything about the stolen tools. The businessman then returned to his truck and called the police again, warning them that more thieves were likely still on the loose. When the police arrived, they found not only the stolen tools but also a stash of other stolen property from around the city and even out-of-state.
The thieves were arrested, and their haul included two stolen motorcycles. The air tag played a crucial role in recovering the stolen items, demonstrating its effectiveness in tracking down lost or stolen goods. This remarkable story highlights the potential of technology to combat theft and bring perpetrators to justice.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly in this episode we're going to discuss even more iOS 18.1 features and changes we're going to talk about Apple's new unpredictable product strategy the worst Apple leak in over a decade a crazy air tag story and more and as always if you want to stay updated with everything going on in the world of Apple be sure to hit that subscribe button down below and check out the Apple Den newsletter okay so let's start with iOS 18.1 and some additional new features and changes so this week we saw the release of beta 6 and this very well could be the final beta before the RC we'll talk more about that later on but this update is going to be massive because it will be bringing Apple intelligence to iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro users who are not running the beta of course so it will be a massive updates and we got even more new features that I did not talk about in my what's new video earlier in the week so if we go into the camera control menu on the iPhone 16 series and then go into tone you'll see that it now goes from minus 100 to 100 so before this was minus1 to 1 so just a visual change there to more align with the actual you know tone with photographic Styles but it does the same thing also if you go into your settings and go to the search at the top you'll see that we have a new popup here related to Siri so it says ask Siri how and it says you can get step-by-step instructions from Siri and press and hold the button to ask your question so it just says the and there's two spaces between buttons so I'm sure that will be fixed in the next update but I think it's supposed to say side button or something there there's also a new UI to switch between your personal and your business line so if you have two different lines set up two different esms on your phone there's now a new menu in the phone application and then in the Apple music application if you tap on the three dots right here and then go to share song and then find the Tik Tok right here or if you go to more and then locate Tik Tok we now have a new way to share music on Tik Tok so you can share this as a video a photo or a message and this latest version of iOS 18.1 also introduced the new numbering badge on your notifications so you can see that for my Google home and my Apple Home applications we have the two badge right there indicating that we have two notifications from that application now this is new because it's not related to Apple intelligence so before this number would only show up if the notifications were being summarized with apple intelligence but now it shows up for all devices you don't have to be on a 15 Pro or newer and it will now show the number of notifications for that application now also in this update we saw sleep apnea detection get officially activated for the iOS 18.1 beta so this was available on 18.0 and 18.01 but now it's available on the betas and this has been working well for me so if you go into your watch settings and then go down here to The Sleep section and then go down to the bottom you will see we have sleep apnea notifications and when you turn that on you will see this is the kind of onboarding the walkth through to get this started so it asks if you're 18 or older and if you've ever been diagnosed with sleep apnea before and then after that it will show you this right here that shows you how the sleep apnea notifications work so it says Apple watch will track your breathing while you're asleep and Records any disturbances over a 30-day period and of course if it does detect any disturbances it will give you a notification and here's what it looks like when you turn those notifications on now if we head into the health app you can see that I have been sleeping with my Apple watch and we have four data points right here so I don't have anything elevated yet so I cannot see hopefully I never see any type of elev breathing disturbances right here but you can see kind of what that looks like inside of the health application and if you tap on the eye you can get more information about those breathing disturbances and kind of what they mean and what may be causing it like alcohol body position upper respiratory illnesses things like that and of course there are other changes in iOS 18.1 beta 6 which I covered in my initial what's new video now also this week we saw the dark mode icon get added to Snapchat so Snapchat has one of the last social media applications to not get a dark mode but finally this week we did see Snapchat get a dark mode and it also shows up for camera control on the iPhone 16 so if you go into your camera settings and go to camera control you can see that we now have Snapchat so now when I launch this it will open up Snapchat and go straight to the Snapchat camera and it did also add new lock screen and control center toggles right here for quick launching the application and you might have also noticed that I have Reddit right here in dark mode but that is just the beta the test flight version of Reddit so hopefully they do launch the you know public version soon with dark mode icon and you can see that Amazon right here is one of the last ones for me that's like a super isore on the home screen Amazon and ways both needed to get it together and give us a dark mode icon for iOS 18 also this week we saw Ticket Master rollout support for the new iOS 18 ticket experience so this is going to include more relevant information about the event like a map of the venue parking details recommended Apple music playlists local forecast location sharing and a direct link to purchase merch so this is pretty awesome and I really like the look of these new tickets in the wallet application hopefully other companies besides Ticket Master can support it now as far as the performance and battery life goes I don't really have any complaints at this point for iOS 18.1 so again we are on beta 6 which does have an a at the end of the build number which does usually indicate that we will have a pretty solid experience overall in terms of performance and by reading your guys' comments on my WS new video I was able to tell as well that a lot of you guys have seen an improvement in terms of performance so if you had any issues on previous betas those could very well be solved here with this sixth beta and hopefully the RC will improve it even more now as far as battery life goes if we head into our settings and go to our battery right here battery life has been pretty great for me honestly and I still have this update finishing in background I've had that ever since I updated you know back on Monday so I'm not sure why that's still sitting around there but that's that's a thing and we might actually have better performance even after that goes away so anyway if you go down here to my last 24 hours you can see that battery life has been solid I mean pretty much every single day I'm only charging maximum one time per day so you can see there I've only charged once today and it was for like 2 minutes so yeah you can see that last 10 days here's what my last 10 days look like of course I did have the hurricane down here in Florida so I was on my phone quite a bit during certain periods you know of the week but you can see that I didn't really approach 100% or didn't go over 100% except for those 3 days days for you know the hurricane so yeah great battery life here on 18.1 beta 6 I really don't have any complaints on the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max I am running it on both devices simultaneously but I want to hear from you guys do you have a good experience with battery life here on 18.1 beta 6 or if you're on iOS 18 or 18.01 let me know how your battery life is on that version okay so now let's talk about what to expect next from Apple so next up is either going to be iOS 18.1 beta 7 or the RC release candidate version of 18.1 now keep in mind Monday is a holiday it is Columbus Day so I find it hard to believe that Apple will release anything on Monday so we could get something later in the week or even on Tuesday or you know we could skip a week either this week or next week if we do get the RC next so it's really hard to say at this point but all we know right now is that Apple will be releasing at least they're planning to release iOS 18.1 on Monday October 28th so we will have a twoe you know period of where either going to see an RC or another beta and then the RC but we are expecting according to Mark Gman to get 18.1 on the 28th because we should be seeing new Macs get released on November 1st that Friday there okay so now let's move on to the latest Apple news and let's start with something that I don't think we've ever seen before and is perhaps the worst leak in Apple history aside from the big iPhone 4 prototype getting left in the bar in California in 2010 and this has to do with the M4 MacBook Pro so as you know the M4 MacBook Pro has not even been announced yet we don't even have a date yet officially for the launch of the M4 MacBook Pro but yet some Russian YouTubers have had their hands on it and already made a video unboxing the M4 Macbook Pro not just one YouTuber at least two so one of these creators is named Weiss LOM and he has over 11 million subscribers so he made this 13-minute video unboxing the new Macbook Pro and even Mark German chimed in and said that it does indeed seem legit and then one day later another Russian YouTuber made a short video unboxing the same alleged base model in4 MacBook Pro and he even showed the about this Mac menu and this whole time we've kind of been wondering like how did this happen like apple has never had a leak like this like usually we see you know sometimes after a product gets announced we'll see it show up in somebody's hands or some you know a warehouse leak after the product gets announced but I don't recall ever seeing a time where an Apple product was leaked and fully revealed before Apple even announced a release date or even showed it off themselves that is insane and to make things even worse this also these these MacBooks appear to be listed on a Russian classified sites for sale so you could actually buy these right now before Apple has even announced them so it looks like they're going for around $7500 and this is for the 14in MacBook Pro so obviously if you're a YouTuber you probably won't make that money back from your unboxing video of it but it is still pretty crazy that it is for sale and it'll be really interesting to see kind of a back story on how this happened if it ever comes out because according to shrimp Apple Pro this is the biggest Warehouse leakage he's ever seen and he says that the person who like has these has 200 units of the M4 MacBook Pro in stock so that is insane and my first thought is like who stole these like this is an organized crime group of people who you know strategically planned to steal these MacBooks in transit so this is crazy and again I just can't wait to see if there's some type of story behind this in the future anyways moving on to the more legit stuff when can we expect to see these M4 MacBook Pros get in our hands people who don't steal when can we expect to see those so Mark Gman said that the M4 Max are expected to come out on November 1st that is the launch date that he expects and these are still going to include the 14-inch MacBook Pro a higher end 14 and 16-in MacBook Pro the redesigned Mac Mini and the M4 iMac and German also expects a new iPad Mini to launch as well but no M4 Mac Studio or Mac Pro those are not coming until 2025 and that report is the same one where he announces 18.1 and apple Intelligence coming on the 28th now German did not mention anything about a Apple event in this new report in his you know newsletter so I'm very curious to see if we're actually going to see an Apple event in October like he's been saying in the past so I hope we do hopefully we do see that and if we are going to see an Apple event we should see invites go out really within the next two weeks I would think and then speaking of Macs and Apple products let's talk about Apple's new alleged products strategy moving forward and this comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gman as well and he says that Apple might be planning to move away from its annual product upgrade cycle so in this report German mentions that Apple intelligence is partially to blame for you know Apple's new plan of launching products only when they're ready to be launched and not sticking to a specific deadline and he mentions that Apple's recent software blunders also prove that the increasing number of products and software makes it difficult to stick to a predetermined schedule and we've seen this recently with the Apple watch SE for example so that used to be on a 2-year release cycle now it appears to be on a three-year release cycle just because that's when Apple deems it to be ready to launch again and same with the Apple watch Ultra like this year we didn't see a new Apple watch Ultra 3 we saw the Apple watch Ultra 2 just in a new color because apparently you know Apple just didn't have the third generation ready yet and keep in mind this only applies to products that are not the iPhone you know so the iPhone is still going to get its yearly refresh this is more so for products that don't necessarily need to be upgraded every single year and looking ahead in 2025 German predicts that Macs iPads and other devices will be released at different times independent of traditional events like WWDC and the iPhone launch and this staggered release strategy could encourage more Innovation and more people to upgrade since the differences between the models will be more substantial and I'm not so sure that I agree that this is going to breed Innovation you know I don't really think that the two are correlated but it is still pretty interesting to see and I do think it's really great that we're going to have more kind of unpredictability with apple things have been very predictable for years now so it will'll be pretty interesting to see a more unpredictable apple and again it's going to make those generation overgeneration upgrades a little bit more substantial than they may have been in the past and then finally let's talk about another crazy air tag story and this time a man in Utah who has been operating a local company for more than 40 years had $6500 worth of tools stolen out of his work truck while being parked in his own driveway but you better believe that after four Decades of running this company he knows a thing or two about tracking down stolen items so he said that he lost some tools about 5 years ago and ever since then he's had an air tag very well hidden in one of the tool cases and sure enough one of those tool cases were stolen so the air tag was nearly out of battery but he was still able to pull up the find my application in time and get a live location of the thieves and he did what isn't typically advised for you to to do but he went to the house to confront the thieves and when he knocked on the door a kid answered and said that he didn't know anything about the tools so that's when the man went back to his truck and called police and once the thieves saw that he was calling the cops a man came out of the house with the stolen tools telling him that they didn't want any trouble but it was too late the cops were on the way already and sure enough police showed up and when they searched the home they found not only his tools but stolen property from all over the city including from out of state and that even included two stolen motorcycles inside the home as well a 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of several counts of possession of stolen property so once again the air tag helped recover not only this guy's stolen items but other stolen items from other innocent people out there so that's awesome anyways guys that's it for this week I hope you enjoyed it if you did give it a thumbs up also be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on next week's Apple weekly episode but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soonwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly in this episode we're going to discuss even more iOS 18.1 features and changes we're going to talk about Apple's new unpredictable product strategy the worst Apple leak in
