Introduction to Vivo's Latest Flagship Phone, the NEX
Hello everybody, Robert Rosenthal from TechnoBuffalo, and welcome back to our channel! I'm here in Shanghai, China, for the launch of Vivo's latest flagship phone, the NEX. This is the phone that the company says is the smartphone of the future, and I have to say, it's certainly a device that's got a lot of interesting features.
The First Impression: Edge-to-Edge Bezel with No Notch
The first thing you'll notice about this phone is its edge-to-edge bezel display, which comes in at just under six point six inches. What I mean by edge-to-edge bezel is that there's virtually no bezel at all - only a tiny sliver of plastic or metal around the edges of the screen. This is a result of Vivo's clever design and engineering, where they've managed to fit almost no frame around the display itself. There's also no notch on top of this phone, which is quite remarkable considering how popular notches have become in recent times.
Screen-to-Body Ratio: A Record-Breaking 91%
Vivo has achieved an incredible screen-to-body ratio with this phone, where a whopping 91% of the display is actually usable space. This means that most of your time spent on the phone will be interacting with the screen, rather than staring at empty space around it. To put this into perspective, if you were to take this phone and compare it side-by-side with an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S series device, the bezel would look tiny - almost nonexistent.
Creative Solution for Front-Facing Camera Placement
To make room for the front-facing camera, Vivo has come up with a clever solution. When you activate the camera in the app, the camera actually rises from within the body of the phone itself. This is made possible by a mechanical mechanism that allows the camera to move independently from the rest of the device. It only takes about a second for the camera to rise and become ready for use - an impressive feat considering how much engineering went into making this happen.
Durability Testing: The Camera Can Be Raised and Lowered 50,000 Times
Vivo has put their new front-facing camera through rigorous durability testing, where it was subjected to being raised and lowered 50,000 times. According to the company, the camera can withstand this amount of stress without showing any signs of wear or tear. This is an impressive achievement, especially when you consider how delicate some camera mechanisms can be.
Display: A Super AMOLED Panel
The display on this phone is a Super AMOLED panel, which provides excellent color accuracy and contrast. This means that the colors on your screen will look rich and vibrant, while also being energy-efficient to boot. With an almost bezel-free design, Vivo has managed to create a viewing experience that's simply exceptional.
Fingerprint Reader: Improved Recognition Accuracy
Vivo has improved their fingerprint reader technology in this latest flagship device. According to the company, this new version can recognize fingerprints with 50% higher accuracy than before. This means that your phone will be able to unlock faster and more securely, thanks to a more advanced biometric system.
Smartphone Sensors: All Hidden Under the Display
Vivo has cleverly hidden all of the smartphone sensors - including the speaker system, GPS, and heart rate monitor - under the display itself. This not only creates a sleeker and more futuristic design but also reduces the risk of damage to these sensitive components. The company claims that this design also helps improve the overall durability of the phone.
Camera: Dual Vertically Stacked Modules
The camera on this phone is dual vertically stacked, which means it has two separate lenses with different focal lengths. One lens is a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, while the other is a 5-megapixel depth-sensing module. This setup allows for more advanced features like portrait mode and bokeh effects.
Charging: A Massive 4000mAh Battery
Vivo has equipped this phone with a massive 4000mAh battery, which provides all-day battery life without needing to be charged too often. With an efficient processor and power-saving features, you can expect to get at least two full days out of this device before needing to recharge.
Software: FunTouch OS Based on Android Oreo
The phone runs on Vivo's custom operating system, FunTouch OS, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. This means that you'll still have access to the latest Android features and updates, as well as some exclusive Vivo features like gestures and shortcuts. The software is intuitive and easy to use, making it perfect for a wide range of users.
Smart Assistant: Jovi, Vivo's Equivalent to Bigby
Vivo has also developed its own smart assistant, which they've called Jovi. This assistant offers similar functionality to other Android smart assistants, such as Google Assistant or Samsung's Bixby. With Jovi, you can perform tasks like sending messages, setting reminders, and making calls with just your voice.
Pricing: The Flagship Version Will Retail for $780
The flagship version of the NEX will retail for around $780 in the United States. Considering its impressive specs and features, this is quite a bargain - especially when you consider that similar devices from other manufacturers can cost upwards of $1000 or more.
