The Final Teardown - Part 3

The Remodeling Project: Day One of Painting

As I watched from afar, the painting crew arrived at our house, eager to tackle the tasks that had been left behind by the drywall crew. The paint crew was a bit shy about being filmed, but Joe took charge, capturing most of the shots before and after the painting was done. This allowed us to see the progress firsthand and appreciate the hard work that went into completing the project.

One of the challenges the paint crew faced was dealing with some trouble spots left behind by the drywall crew. Specifically, there were mudded-in registers, carbon monoxide alarms that had been muddled around, leaving an unfinished patch beneath them. This was a bit disappointing, as it showed that the drywall crew hadn't quite finished up properly in those areas. However, the paint crew was able to fix these issues by applying additional coats of mud and sanding down the surface to ensure an even finish.

The paint crew also had to work around some troublesome ceiling seams that I had specifically pointed out as needing attention. These seams were a bit tricky to repair, but the paint crew was able to fix them with ease, applying a final coat of mud over the top and then sanding it down to smooth out any imperfections.

As the day went on, the painting crew made good progress in the garage and bedroom areas that still needed attention. They paid particular attention to two walls back here that were particularly damaged, and even managed to fix one missed spot that I had attempted to patch myself but needed a bit more work. The acoustic foam that I had out for the drywall also came loose when I peeled it off, so the paint crew did some additional patching to deal with this issue.

By the end of day one, the first coat of paint was complete, and the painting crew applied some additional repair mud to areas that still needed it. This set them up well for a final day of work, where they would apply the finishing coat of paint to the computer room, bedroom, and garage.

One of the interesting things I noticed about the paint is that it was called "polar bear" in the computer room and bedroom. I found this out after watching an episode of The Office where the character Michael Scott referred to a similar type of paint as polar bear. It's always fun to find these little connections between our personal lives and the TV shows we love.

The gray paint used in the garage is called "lazy gray," which is also the same type of paint that I used in my office last summer. This paint does an excellent job of covering the surface for about half of July, before it starts to fade a bit.

I want to take a moment to thank Joe and the painting crew for their hard work on this project. It was super convenient that they came while I was out of town, as it allowed me to focus on other things without worrying about the renovations.

Of course, there is still plenty more to do on these projects. Once those bedrooms are painted, we'll be eager to move back into them and start reducing the volume of stuff and furniture that's being stored in our family room and dining room. We're hoping that this will make our living space feel more comfortable and relaxing.
