The Final Teardown - Part 3

The Remodeling Project: Day One of Painting

As I watched from afar, the painting crew arrived at our house, eager to tackle the tasks that had been left behind by the drywall crew. The paint crew was a bit shy about being filmed, but Joe took charge, capturing most of the shots before and after the painting was done. This allowed us to see the progress firsthand and appreciate the hard work that went into completing the project.

One of the challenges the paint crew faced was dealing with some trouble spots left behind by the drywall crew. Specifically, there were mudded-in registers, carbon monoxide alarms that had been muddled around, leaving an unfinished patch beneath them. This was a bit disappointing, as it showed that the drywall crew hadn't quite finished up properly in those areas. However, the paint crew was able to fix these issues by applying additional coats of mud and sanding down the surface to ensure an even finish.

The paint crew also had to work around some troublesome ceiling seams that I had specifically pointed out as needing attention. These seams were a bit tricky to repair, but the paint crew was able to fix them with ease, applying a final coat of mud over the top and then sanding it down to smooth out any imperfections.

As the day went on, the painting crew made good progress in the garage and bedroom areas that still needed attention. They paid particular attention to two walls back here that were particularly damaged, and even managed to fix one missed spot that I had attempted to patch myself but needed a bit more work. The acoustic foam that I had out for the drywall also came loose when I peeled it off, so the paint crew did some additional patching to deal with this issue.

By the end of day one, the first coat of paint was complete, and the painting crew applied some additional repair mud to areas that still needed it. This set them up well for a final day of work, where they would apply the finishing coat of paint to the computer room, bedroom, and garage.

One of the interesting things I noticed about the paint is that it was called "polar bear" in the computer room and bedroom. I found this out after watching an episode of The Office where the character Michael Scott referred to a similar type of paint as polar bear. It's always fun to find these little connections between our personal lives and the TV shows we love.

The gray paint used in the garage is called "lazy gray," which is also the same type of paint that I used in my office last summer. This paint does an excellent job of covering the surface for about half of July, before it starts to fade a bit.

I want to take a moment to thank Joe and the painting crew for their hard work on this project. It was super convenient that they came while I was out of town, as it allowed me to focus on other things without worrying about the renovations.

Of course, there is still plenty more to do on these projects. Once those bedrooms are painted, we'll be eager to move back into them and start reducing the volume of stuff and furniture that's being stored in our family room and dining room. We're hoping that this will make our living space feel more comfortable and relaxing.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome back to my remodel series we are recapping a bunch of recent work that was  done to my home and my garage so I could move out of my office part one and two covered one  week of work each last two weeks of June but today we're accelerating things and covering  the first half of July the contract work that I set up involved five phases the electrical that  was shown in week one drywall and skim coating for week two and the painting that will be shown today  as well as the HVAC and garage floor finish that we'll be rounding things out in another week or  two there was also a lot of work that we did demo work to remove trim and flooring carpet  removal installing new baseboards and floors and painting which was handled by myself with  much vital assistance from my editor Joe as well as my dad and my wife and even my four-year-old  daughter Hannah but I was also traveling for 12 out of the 31 days in July first on  a family trip to Hawaii that had been postponed from 2020 and then to LTX later in the month so  with all that in mind here's everything we accomplished in the first half of Julyexcellent today's video is brought to you by Micro Center this is one of my favorite places to buy PC  parts so if you're building or upgrading your PC I highly recommend making your way down to  one of their 25 retail stores in the US they have consistently competitive prices and an excellent  selection of PC hardware and other Tech goodies and they have a custom PC Builder on the Micro  Center website use it to spec out your rig and it will show you Parts in store at your nearest  location while ensuring compatibility then you can pick up in store or have their Pros assemble  it for you so click the sponsor Link in the description to find a Micro Center near you  welcome to week three or I guess I should say phase three because this video should  be covering this week and next week in terms of work this week is starting late because it was  Fourth of July week so the crews had a few days off but painting is what's going to be happening  in this video so I need to finish prep work here in the garage for these ceiling racks up  here my contractor said the paint crew can work around those so that's good they're gonna need  to be painting areas where they've added drywall patches I need to remove a bunch of these shelves  over here and some of the mounting brackets for those shelves I'm still going to have them paint  these wood slats that I've mounted on the back and then I can just remount everything back to  those for my built-in closet I'm hopefully going to have them paint the closet but leave the doors  the wood finish I hope that works out and then of course the background area over here which  is going to be again the background for a lot of the videos I want to make sure it's pretty  pristine right now there is a bunch of glue and stuff on there I've contacted my contractor as  well to say uh is will the paint crew be able to like scrape this off and get the wall in better  shape or is that also something that I need to handle today they have one like kind of late  patch they did on this Outlet right here so it's got a bit of a bubble on it that I'm gonna need  to sand down and then they they kind of missed this one and then they were on their way out  and I was like uh can you patch that other one too and they're like we kind of gotta go so this  is my work here which is why it's not very well done at all but I need to sand that down a little  bit today as well so I'm going to get started and I'm hopefully also going to work quickly  because another thing that's happening this week is I'm going out of town for a few days and that  feels like it's either a really smart thing to do while remodeling work is being done or like a  really dumb thing to do I'm not really sure but fortunately Joe said he can help out while I'm  gone really really grateful for that but that's enough introduction for now I'm gonna get to workthank youthank youI'll admit I haven't been showing much PC Hardware in this series apart from moving boxes back and  forth so here's another vital task that we handled in the first week of July performing  some maintenance on the Sentry PC which runs my security cameras and has also been sucking up dust  in my garage running 24 7 ever since I did a hot rod mod on the case back in May of 2020. that was  done in order to fit a noctua nhl12s cooler with a full-sized fan into or as a sidecar for the Dr  zaber Sentry 2.0 slim sfx case that this system is housed in at the time I also added a four terabyte  WD purple hard drive for storing surveillance footage and it's been doing a fine job ever since  apart from the fact that it hasn't been cleaned and the fan was running at way higher speeds to  compensate for the dust buildup but that meant I was able to use something I got as a Christmas  present like a year or two ago my datavac Pro which is a black cylindrical high-powered vacuum  made for cleaning Electronics and the like and yes it can switch from suck to blow so  we're going to use the uh the the fuzzy bristles here for like the detail work but for like the  majority of the bulk stuff like we just gotta go just gotta go in raw no protection this is this  is not the standard Data Bank it's the pro this is actually let's feel the torque when I turn it onpopped off the heatsink fan noticed a slightly not symmetrical uh thermal  paste on it and that's actually because this side here was the bottom of the PC so after  so many years I think some of the thermal paste just from Gravity migrated towards  the bottom especially being warm so it's going to be good to re-pace this as well  to get better contact and more Universal spread of that thermal paste as wellin case you're wondering about the hardware that's installed here the CPU is the AMD ryzen 5 3400g  which is a four core eight thread processor does have integrated Graphics I have considered maybe  swapping that out and if I expand my surveillance camera system to add more cameras I might still  do that in the future the motherboard's a gigabyte b450 Oris Pro Wi-Fi which is Mini ITX nice because  it has a NIC which is what I'm using to connect up the security camera Network and then it also  has Wi-Fi which allows it to connect to my home network which allows me to access the security  cameras that way the power supply is an EVGA Supernova GM 550 watt 80 plus gold rated power  supply so good efficiency and I'm very very happy about that zero fan feature on this one the memory  is uh just an 8 gig kit actually two by eight gigs of a g-scale rip Jaws 4 ddr4 266 the CPU Cooler  is actually a noctua nhl12s which is a low profile CPU Cooler and you actually can install a thin fan  underneath this CPU Cooler to make it truly low profile file but I wanted more performance and I  guess an excuse to hack part of the side of this case off which is why I went with the full size  25 millimeter thick 120x120 fan which has been on top of this which of course is the noctua NF F12  old standby formerly their top fan before they came out with the more recent stuff and it's the  industrial one which is why it's all black beyond that in the Dr zaber Century case we have a couple  drives in here for storage the WD purple Drive is a four terabyte drive in the WD purples are  specifically made for video surveillance systems they have lots and lots of constant rights to the  drive as it's recording stuff and this one has been doing a great job just in terms of being  quiet it's not very loud at all it's also very quick if I'm pulling up the footage and trying  to watch any of the eclipse that this system has recorded it's actually not too bad in terms of  response time finally there's just a SanDisk zaded SSD in there that's what the operating  system is installed on and that is a rundown of my surveillance camera PC the Sentry as I call  it thanks to the case and I'm happy to report that after that thorough cleaning and a quick repasting  of the ryzen 5 3400g CPU the Sentry PC now runs cool and quiet once again which is good because  I have plans to use it for the next phase of this project speaking of the next phase of the project  the next phase for me was to go on vacation to Hawaii in the second week of July but fortunately  Joe agreed to come over to my house to help supervise the painting that was also happening  that same week Joe came over on two separate days that's how long it took to handle the painting  and he started off by getting some before shots of the areas that needed to be painted out here  in the garage after I had torn everything off of the walls you can see there's of course lots of  drywall patching that needs to be covered up as well as areas up in the corners and over by the  washer and dryer that needed attention and also the bedroom so the bedroom and the computer room  which were still cleared out from the drywall work but of course the paint still needed to go  in there now the paint crew was a bit shy in terms of being filmed so Joe mostly got these before  shots and then after shots after the painting was done rather than shooting the work in progress but  the paint crew did do a great job and they were able to fix or work around a few trouble shots  that were left by the drywall crew as shown last week there were some mudded in registers carbon  monoxide alarms that were mudded around leaving an unfinished patch beneath them which was kind  of disappointing and there were at least two Troublesome ceiling seams that I had specifically  pointed out as needing attention that the drywall crew didn't quite finish up properly but the paint  crew was fortunately able to fix those they did one last coat of mud over them as well as sanding  to ensure an even finish once they were painted so here's a look at the progress on day one after  they cleaned up the drywall in the mud in several areas patched and corrected those imperfections  in the garage and thanks to Joe recommending it they paid particular attention to these two walls  back here that needed a lot of work there was one missed spot over here that I attempted to fix but  that of course needed a bit of additional work some sanding and then the acoustic foam that I  had out here before which was glued onto the walls which peeled off some of the drywall finish when  I peeled that and also had some glue and stuff so they did a bunch of patching there too by the end  of day one they had finished the first coat of paint here in the garage and in the bedrooms and  they applied some more repair mud to the areas that needed it they then returned for one more  day of work to apply the finishing coat of paint to the computer room the bedroom and the garage  which included painting the entire garage and here are some after shots you can see the white paint  that was used in the computer room and the bedroom that's called polar bear in case you're interested  and then of course the gray paint that was used out here in the garage and that's called lazy gray  which is the same type of paint that I used in the office last summer and that pretty much covers  it for the first half of July I want to say a big thank you to Joe as well as the painting crew that  came and did so much good work especially while I was out of town which was super convenient there  is of course lots more to do on these projects as mentioned at the beginning of the video Once those  bedrooms were painted we were really anxious to move back into them so we could reduce the volume  of stuff and Furniture that's being stored in our family room in our dining room and elsewhere in  the house that all happened in the second half of July after I returned from Hawaii so stay  tuned for another update video on this series next week also I have an actual new PC build  video up this week too because I am intending to get back to videos about PC Hardware other than  the videos I've been putting up which are mostly Tech news and remodeling lately so thanks to all  of you guys who have been watching this video thanks to all of you who have been providing  feedback down in the comments section leaving those thumbs UPS of course and if you'd like to  help support my channel you can check out my store at paulsharbor.net where I have Shirts Mugs pint  glasses and more that you can buy to get yourself some nice merch and help support the videos that  I make thank you guys one more time for watching and we'll see you all in the next video foreign\n"
