The Motorola Droid Razer Max: A Comprehensive Review
By Jennifer Johnson with Hot Hardware
The Motorola Droid Razer Max is currently available from Verizon Wireless for about $300, and as we delve into this review, it's clear that there are many similarities between this phone and its predecessor, the first Droid Razer. However, one of the biggest differences between the two phones is the battery life of the Droid Razer Max, which boasts a 33 milliamp lithium ion battery that offers up to 21 hours of continuous talk time.
This impressive talk time is significantly longer than that of its predecessor, with the first Droid Razer only managing to last for 12.5 hours on a single charge. Additionally, the Droid Razer Max claims to offer up to 15.8 days of standby time, seven straight hours of web browsing, and two and a half days of music playback. These numbers are certainly impressive and demonstrate the significant improvements that have been made to the battery life of this phone.
In terms of design, the Droid Razer Max is slightly thicker than its predecessor, measuring 8.99 mm in thickness compared to the original's 7.1 mm. However, it still maintains a sleek and slim profile that makes it easy to carry around. The phone also weighs in at 5.1 oz, which is roughly the same weight as the original Droid Razer.
One of the standout features of the Droid Razer Max is its durable construction. Like its predecessor, it boasts Kevlar fiber, Corning Gorilla Glass on the screen, and water repellent nanotech particles that help to protect it from damage. These features make it an excellent choice for those who plan to use their phone in harsh environments.
The Droid Razer Max also comes with 32 gigabytes of onboard storage, which is significantly more than its predecessor. This means that users will have plenty of room to store their music, videos, and other files without having to worry about running out of space.
In terms of software, the Droid Razer Max runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, although Motorola has announced plans to upgrade it to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) at some point in the future. The phone also comes pre-loaded with a number of apps, including Smart Actions, which is one of our favorite features.
Smart Actions allows users to customize their phone's behavior based on their location and activities. For example, if you're driving in your car, it will automatically open maps for you or adjust settings to help optimize your experience. If you have a calendar meeting, it will silence your phone to prevent distractions. The feature is incredibly useful and makes the Droid Razer Max an excellent choice for those who want a phone that can learn their habits and preferences.
In addition to Smart Actions, the Droid Razer Max also comes with other useful features such as a 1080p HD camera with LED flash, a headphone jack, micro-USB port, and HDMI output. The camera is capable of taking high-quality photos and videos, making it an excellent choice for those who want to capture life's special moments.
Overall, the Motorola Droid Razer Max is an excellent phone that offers a number of impressive features and improvements over its predecessor. Its long battery life, durable construction, and useful software features make it an excellent choice for those who want a reliable and feature-rich Android smartphone.
