2015 Infiniti QX70 Road Test and Review

The Infiniti FX: A Great Driving Luxury Crossover

The Infiniti FX is a great driving luxury crossover that offered sporty looks, technology, and performance. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued, but its legacy lives on as the QX70. The QX70 is available with either a 3.7L V6 engine producing 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque or a 5.0L V8 engine, which was not tested in this review.

The QX70 comes in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) trims, with the AWD model being tested here. The AWD model gets an estimated 16 MPG city and 22 MPG highway with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The car accelerates to 60 mph in under 6 seconds, providing strong pull when the pedal is pressed down. One of the best features of the older FX and current QX70 is its exhaust note, which is throaty and loud, giving onlookers a hint that this isn't just any ordinary vehicle.

The driving dynamics of the QX70 are perfect 50/50 weight distribution, making it agile and fun to drive. The suspension setup contributes to a stiff ride, but it's notable due to the larger wheels used. This results in a car that feels more like an inflated sports car than a luxury SUV. If you opt for the S trim, you get steering wheel-mounted paddles, which was considered a superfluous feature on a luxury SUV until it redefined what's possible with a crossover vehicle.

The QX70 continues this trend of delivering impressive driving characteristics without sacrificing practicality. It feels remarkably agile and has great handling characteristics, making it feel more like an inflated sports car than a luxury SUV. This is not to say that the QX70 is as sharp as the Q50, but it's still impressive for its size.

The interior quality and material are top-notch, with plenty of standard equipment. The front seats are heated and cooled, and the Deluxe Touring Package adds quilted leather and gorgeous Maple accents. While some may not be fans of the front dash layout, which looks a bit dated compared to the updated Q50, this car comes with a boatload of technology, including a 360-degree aerial view, lane departure warnings, and intelligent cruise control.

The interior is designed to evoke a sense of luxury, with plenty of premium materials and attention to detail. The quilted leather is particularly noteworthy, adding a touch of sophistication to the cabin. However, some may find the black interiors to be a bit bland, but it's a stylistic choice that makes the car feel more upscale.

The exterior design of the QX70 is aggressive and unique, with sloping rear ends and dual exhaust pipes giving it a distinctive look. The chrome roof racks also add a touch of elegance to the overall design. Overall, the lines of the car flow together nicely, making it a visually appealing vehicle.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a luxury crossover that provides the safety and practicality of a larger SUV but doesn't sacrifice driving dynamics, the Infiniti QX70 is a great choice. With its impressive performance, sporty handling, and luxurious interior, it's an excellent option for anyone in the market for a high-end crossover vehicle.
