The Origin EVO 17s: A Mobile Gaming Powerhouse?
As I put this laptop through its paces, I was blown away by its performance. With a powerful Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, this machine is capable of handling even the most demanding games at high frame rates. I ran the game "Cyberpunk 2077" at 1920 x 1080 resolution with ultra settings, and was impressed by the smooth gameplay and buttery-smooth performance.
But what really stood out to me was how well this laptop handled streaming while gaming. I was able to set up a live stream of myself playing "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "Valorant", and was amazed by how seamlessly the stream worked. The game looked amazing, even with multiple viewers in chat, and I didn't experience any dropped frames or other issues. This is exactly what I want from a laptop - reliable performance that can keep up with my gaming and streaming needs.
Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning some of the laptop's features and specifications. The display on this laptop is truly impressive, with vibrant colors and deep blacks. It's also incredibly bright, making it perfect for watching videos or browsing the web in sunny outdoor environments. I was also impressed by the keyboard and trackpad - they're both extremely comfortable to use, and offer a range of customization options.
One feature that did leave me feeling slightly underwhelmed, however, is the volume keys. With a function key required to adjust the volume, it can be a bit of a hassle. I wish there was just a single key for adjusting volume - it would make life much easier. Additionally, the USB ports are somewhat cramped and difficult to access, which can be a problem if you have multiple devices that need charging on the go.
But overall, these are minor complaints in an otherwise excellent laptop. The Origin EVO 17s is a true powerhouse of mobile gaming performance, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and capable laptop. It's not cheap - the MSRP for this particular configuration is around $3100 - but trust me, it's worth every penny.
I also want to mention that if you're wondering whether this laptop can handle gaming while streaming, the answer is yes. In fact, I was able to do a two-hour live stream with this laptop, playing "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "Valorant", and receiving feedback from my viewers on how the stream looked. The laptop performed flawlessly, and I didn't experience any issues or problems during the stream.
One final note - if you're in the market for a high-end gaming laptop, you should definitely consider the Origin EVO 17s. Compared to a single NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 at the time of writing, this laptop offers incredible value for money. You can buy an entire system with that kind of power, and it's still only slightly more expensive than this laptop.
In conclusion, I would give the Origin EVO 17s a score of 9 out of 10. It's an excellent laptop that delivers on its promise of mobile gaming performance, and is well worth considering for anyone in the market for a new machine.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso a couple weeks ago origin hit me up and they're like hey do you want to do a proper review of our evo 17s gaming laptop and ordinarily i would have said no because gaming laptops the evo 17s can be configured to your liking in terms of what specs you want although you are locked into the cpu which is an intel core i7 11800h it's got 8 cores 16 threads and it features intel max turbo so it'll boost to 4.6 gigahertz on a single core when it's under load whether you're gaming or in whatever software you're using um you can configure the memory however on the on the spec sheet that they gave me like the reviewers got it said up to 32 gigs but i went on the site and you can actually do 64 gigs so i'm guessing 64 gigs since that's what's actually on the site either be two 32gb so dims of ddr4 memory you can configure the speed up to 2666 as well which isn't the fastest but when you're talking about an intel chip that's not quite as reliant on memory frequency as ryzen chips for example um it's it's not too much of a big deal you can also choose which gpu you want uh and actually depending on the gpu you choose it'll actually determine the screen that you get or the display so you can do an rtx 3070 and with that you would get a full hd 1920x1080 display ips display but it would be 144 hertz if you scale up to the rtx 3080 then you actually get a 300hz display which is kind of ridiculous we'll talk more about that later but rtx 3080 with max q design of course and same with the rtx 3070 so you're not really getting full fat rtx 3080 desktop gpu performance mind you and again that's something that we'll cover later on this only comes in one screen size which is 17.3 inches i think that's a pretty good size for a high-end gaming laptop 15 just seems a little too small these days and anything larger much larger than 17 inches then you have a harder time you know fitting in a backpack it becomes less and less portable as you scale up there you can also configure storage so for the operating system drive you can go up to a four terabyte ssd and that would be pcie gen 4 nvme m.2 which is pretty crazy i think it's like a 600 option and if you want you can add on a secondary storage drive that goes up to two terabytes and i believe that's also pci gen 4 nvme that pretty much concludes all of the specs that you can customize but there's also one more custom feature you can opt in for if you want to pay a little extra or a lot extra depending on your budget which is a design on the back side but there's actually a few options you can choose between you can have your design using hd uv printing you can do laser etching and there's even a hydrative option so depending on what you're looking for if you want to customize and trick out your laptop make it a bit more personal to your own unique taste that is available to you as far as this specific laptop goes my configuration that they sent me is of course using the intel core i7 11800h there's no other option for that but it has 32 gigs of ddr4 memory and it's core server engines memory i should have mentioned that earlier uh 2666 we also have an rtx 3080 with max q uh which means we have the 300 hertz 1080p display and what storage one terabytes one terabyte i believe it's a corsair mp600 so pca gen4 nvme almost maxed out i would say definitely maxed out in terms of the display and the gpu uh cpu is the same for all of them um the only way that we could really upgrade this further is with the memory and storage so so later i'll be able to show you guys what the top tier level of performance looks like with the evo 17s given the specs that are in this thing uh but next up i should talk about warranty really quick you get a one-year warranty it's a parts replacement warranty as well as a 45 day shipping warranty they also have origin has like 24 7 customer support i think it's 365. it might be 365 days a year but it's definitely 24 7 which is really nice if you have a problem at 3am for whatever reason uh you can just hit them up they have phone and chat and email i believe i like the 24 7 support thing i mean for me personally if this was my daily laptop i would be you know taking it everywhere traveling with it so if i ever had an issue with it while i was abroad let's say i'm at computex in taiwan and something goes wrong with this thing at noon in taiwan time but it's like some totally random off hour back here in california it's kind of nice peace of mind knowing that i can just hit up origin literally at any time and they can help walk me through whatever i'm going through so on that note i think it's time that we look at the physical device take a look at the chassis and the body and all the ports and stuff i guess we can start with the ports we'll start with the ports um on the left side you get a usb 3.1 type a port and two audio jacks they're both combo ports one's a headphone and mic jack and the other one is a microphone and spdif out and that's really nice because whether you have a headset that has a single combo jack or one that has two individual jacks one for the microphone one for your earphones you can you're pretty much accommodated either way a lot of laptops don't do that and on the right side you have two more usb 3.1 type a ports and an rj45 port that's also worth mentioning that you do have intel dual band wi-fi six as well as bluetooth um built-in um it is worth noting that uh you know as i've been using this for a couple days and one thing to point out just uh the first critique here out of the gate is i wish that the two usb 3.0 or 3.1 type a ports were on the left side and that there was only one on the right side because i'm a right-hand mouse user i think most people are so the other day when i was streaming with this thing and i had my my wireless headset dongle plugged into the to the right side i was like well i can't do that because it interferes with my with my mousing abilities so i had to plug it into the left so you know depending on the devices that you're using if you got external ssds and stuff like that other dongles i think it just would have been nice for most users who are right-handed if the uh if the majority of ports were on the left side as opposed to the right just so it doesn't get in the way of your mouse small critique but worth pointing out and on the back we have uh our power power of course i'm glad that the power port is on the back and on one of the sides that was a smart move you also have mini display port hdmi and thunderbolt 4 so you can actually connect up to three displays to this laptop simultaneously if you want to take advantage of that and have even more of like a desktop experience and of course you can use that for for gaming for you know general productivity whatever you want which is really nice if you want to like dock this at home if you have like a triple mod or spread or even just one monitor um it's kind of nice to be able to have that option oh i should also mention the form factor of this thing it's actually fairly thin and light for having a 17.3 inch screen it weighs about five pounds like just barely like a hair over five pounds and at its thickest point it's just north of three and a quarter inches thick so this actually fits in my mini travel backpack that is supposed to only accommodate up to 15-inch laptops this guy fits in just fine we have some more physical features to talk about once we open up the laptop at the very top i'll just start at the top and work my way down at the very top you've got a 1 megapixel hd webcam there's your display of course which we'll get more into later once we're actually testing it out and then the keyboard the keyboard is full rgb you have per key customization with the lighting uh there's an app that comes included with that and it looks really bright vibrant you know you can dance around and stuff different effects all that good stuff uh and the actual keys themselves the this this keyboard is awesome i really like the the feel and the sound of of these keys they're just very tactile like the trap it actually has pretty decent travel for being as flat as they are they just feel really good going up and down they almost have like a bite to them they're snappy they have like a snap it's just it's really satisfying um and then you also have this really nice track pad the track pad works beautifully it's super smooth and maybe the the 300hz display is also helping with that illusion but it does work really well it's very precise super responsive that goes for the actual finger tracking as well as like the the tapping and gestures and stuff everything works really really well um it does have left and right click buttons at the bottom those don't feel quite as nice but i have a feeling most most people are just going to use the the tapping of the the touchpad or a connected mouse and there's also a fingerprint reader in the top left corner of the touchpad that also works really well this is the first laptop i think i've ever reviewed or even had here in the studio with a fingerprint reader and i'm an instant believer this is this is awesome uh although i should mention that um even if you don't want to use the the biometric uh reader for for like logging in and stuff um you also have a full 10 key number pad it makes it really easy to type in pins passwords friend codes gamer tags and all that good stuff oops sorry didn't mean to hit that that pretty much covers it for the physical features of the laptop oh there's a kensington lock on the left as well i forgot to mention that but kensington lock um two more things to mention before we start talking about performance first of which being the sound audio laptop speakers laptop audio is generally garbage and this laptop is no exception it is not the greatest uh there's virtually zero bass i don't think i've heard a laptop like laptop speakers with this little base it just sounds extremely tinny and kind of hollow and not very not very bumping at all however to its credit it does go up to max volume without any distortion and it does get fairly loud it's just loud garbage audio if anything and then the second thing was uh battery life i don't know the the kilowatt hours or milliamps of this battery at all but i did use it without plugging it in for a while just doing general productive use and i got about an hour and a half to no i would say roughly two hours i got roughly two hours with it so depending on what you're doing if you're like watching youtube videos or if you're watching 4k footage or something like that constantly then maybe it's going to drop down to maybe an hour and a half and if you're doing super super light use you know maybe you're just doing like word processing or something like that maybe you can get two and a half three hours out of it um and then gaming i didn't even try that because i mean if it's only lasting 90 minutes from watching youtube it's probably gonna last well under an hour firing up the game which is pretty much to be expected with a high-end laptop like this a high-end gaming laptop but if you're gonna be gaming on this thing obviously you're gonna want to plug it in anyway all right so let's talk about how games look and perform on the evo 17s starting with how they look so you can see here i've got red dead redemption 2 fired up and it it's pretty you guys probably can't tell from where you're sitting but it looks really good i know it's only a 1080 display but it's super sharp everything looks nice and crispy and i don't really have any complaints in that department color accuracy is pretty decent too it's not going to like blow you away compared to say like a 10-bit desktop monitor but it's pretty much in line with what you'd expect from a hand gaming laptop one thing i do wish though is that the screen was a little brighter it's not bad but and i think this is this is the case with a lot of gaming laptop displays it's just not super bright it's at max brightness right now and it's fine like in this environment it's kind of dimly lit right now in this room but i wouldn't try gaming on this thing in broad daylight and that's not anything specific to the evo 17s like i said this is pretty much the case with the majority of gaming laptops out there even the high-end ones there are a few out there that have really high knits but this one's pretty average and uh something to keep in mind although most of the time if you're gaming on this thing you're probably not going to be outside anyway i mean maybe in some instances but most of the time you're going to be near an outlet inside where you can actually control the ambient lighting and stuff as far as how games play on this thing it's it's pretty awesome i mean with an rtx 3080 max q and a core i7 processor it's it's pretty much one of the best gaming experiences that you can get on a mobile device um as far as pcs go so it's it's really fast the refresh rate is phenomenal in a game like this you're not going to notice it much but i was playing valorent last night and it just it kicks ass although i wasn't quite hitting nearly 300 frames per second in valorent um but even at like what i think it was hitting maybe 140 150 fps on average it was still a really good fluid experience if you can get a game to run at 300 fps on this thing it's just gonna be smooth as butter for the most part and then you combine that with uh with g-sync there's zero tearing whatsoever earlier in this game i cranked up the quality settings just pretty much maxed it out and as most you guys know red dead redemption 2 is a very crushing game when it's maxed out so we were averaging maybe 30 40 fps in some scenes and even at that lower frame rate i didn't see any tearing whatsoever so i figured that we would probably get you know outside of the g-sync range but uh i don't know exactly what that range is for this display it's it's well within within those boundaries so that was kind of nice to see so i mean overall i really like this display it looks great it performs well and you know in a game like reddit redemption 2 where it's just i mean this is a gorgeous title but i've seen it look like crap on the wrong monitor or the wrong display this one does it justice so it's i think that's a pretty good benchmark and indicator that uh that it's it's pretty solid all right i've turned on msi afterburner we've got riva statistics tuner up as well you can see the hud so that way you guys can follow along and sort of see how the system's behaving and how it's performing as we ride this horsey first things first right off the bat uh and probably the thing that you guys might have noticed first are the temperatures they are quite high and they look pretty alarming the gpu is right now at 83 c and the cpu is hovering in in the low 80s i was hitting like 86 87c earlier just a moment ago um which yeah is is a little scary those are scary numbers uh but of course when you're talking about a laptop the tj maxx for these uh these parts are configured and tuned for the form factor right so 84c on a gpu on a mobile gpu is not exactly the same as 84c on your desktop rtx 3080. that's all to say that these temps are normal and to be expected for for this particular laptop but having said that i would still recommend if you're gonna be gaming on this thing for extended periods of time for several hours i would recommend getting like a laptop cooler you know just just to keep the thermals in check um it's it's always good to have lower thermals even though the hardware can technically take it it's just one of those peace of mind things and also bear in mind that if you keep your temperatures lower then the fans in the laptop won't have to ramp up as high and you'll actually get better noise levels so acoustics plays a role in this as well if you look right over here you can see our gpu is hovering around 1400 between 1400 and 1500 megahertz that's the core clock speed and that's obviously significantly lower than what a full fat desktop rtx 3080 is capable of generally you see those hit around 18 1900 megahertz on average um but this is all par for the course remember this is an rtx 3080 with max q design so it's allowed to take about 150 watts i believe it's 150 watts that it can pull which when you compare that to a desktop rtx 3080 i mean i was running my rtx 3080 supreme x from msi a factory overclocked card not too long ago and afterburner was showing that pulling around 320 watts from the wall so that's obviously gonna lead to more power but also a lot more heat and when you're talking about a form factor like a laptop you're gonna have to scale that down to say 150 watts where the power output's not going to be as much or i'm sorry the performance levels not going to be as high but it's kind of what what you got to do given the environment that the gpu is running in you can also see that we're eating up quite a bit of memory uh 14 gigs thereabouts of system memory is currently being used so this is uh definitely one of those things where i would suggest the 32 gig option if you are going to be doing some high-end gaming playing uh some really hard-hitting aaa titles like red dead redemption 2. 16 gigs simply isn't cutting it like it used to be anymore for for that upper echelon of gaming so something to keep in mind especially if you're going to be running other applications in the background or streaming while gaming for example any of that stuff is going to be eating up a lot more ram if you have half a chrome tab open just just forget about it so something to bear in mind for sure and as you can see we're getting around 80 ish 80 to 90 fps um there are some dips into the 70s here and there but uh overall we're doing really well in a game like this so as far as the actual settings that i'm using for this title 1920 by 1080 of course we're using the the panel's native resolution and the settings are kind of in the high range it's sort of a blend we've got some settings on ultra some on medium but for the most part i would say we're running high settings on average dlss is set to balance uh this is just fantastic and the game still looks amazing it still looks incredible now if you're wondering if this laptop can handle gaming while streaming it definitely can i actually did a two-hour live stream with this laptop the other day and i was playing red dead redemption 2 and some valorant this is what i live for just to try things out and it was a public stream i had about you know my my usual 200 people 200 viewers in chat and giving me feedback i really wanted their real-time feedback on how the stream was looking and everything and they said it looked great on their end everyone said looks fantastic you know if it wasn't for my crappy usb webcam that i was using this channel runs on mayo they probably wouldn't have even noticed that i was streaming from a laptop and not my my usual desktop system here at the office i was streaming at 1920 by 1080 60 frames per second like i said i had that that webcam connected and honestly this laptop didn't miss a beat it was it was fantastic no dropped frames buttery smooth playback on both ends for for both me and the viewers uh it was it was great so that is the origin evo 17s in a nutshell oh one thing i forgot to point out a little little critique a little nitpick that i have um is are the volume keys the volume keys are you have to hit the function key at the hold function and then adjust the volume keys i wish they were dedicated i mean you adjust volume so frequently with any device with any pc that i just don't think it should have a function element to it it should just be a single key that you can hit and they clearly had enough space they have a 10k number pad on here so i'm not going to stop mentioning that in laptop reviews until manufacturers make that change or even a volume knob or a volume wheel that'd be that'd be amazing uh so but that's it uh so like i said there really aren't too many flaws with this laptop obviously it's not perfect but i feel like the few shortcomings that it does have are pretty minor and can easily be lived with uh over extended periods of time they're certainly not deal breakers in my opinion things like the volume keys uh the location of the usb ports and stuff like that but there's a lot to love about this laptop the keyboard is great as far as tactility goes feels awesome the trackpad works phenomenally and the display is really nice obviously this thing can be specced out to be a total powerhouse and handle pretty much anything you throw at it and i really love the fact that you can connect up to three external displays simultaneously it's a really nice touch i don't think i mentioned it yet but the msrp for this particular configuration that i have here is roughly thirty one hundred dollars u.s uh the evo 17s starts at around two thousand dollars but um the one i have here is roughly 3100 which isn't cheap but i think it's also how you look at it right because this is this is cream of the crop mobile gaming performance doesn't really get a whole lot better than this and that's 3 100 out the door versus if you look at the desktop side i mean a single rtx 3090 at least at the time of filming this video is selling for what it costs to buy this entire laptop so matter of perspective there but i'll leave you guys with that uh i would give this laptop a 9 out of 10. easy i think it's great and i would highly consider it as my daily driver for a laptop but thank you guys so much for watching this video toss a like on it if you enjoyed it get subscribed for more tech content coming at you really soon and i'll see you guys in the next video when g fuel approaches me finally one of these point out just uh the first critique here out of the gate is i wish that the two usb 3.0 or 3.1 type a ports were on the left side and that there was only one on the right side because i'm a right-hand mouse user i think most people are so the other day when i was streaming with this thing and i had my my wireless headset dongle plugged into the to the right side i was like well i can't do that because it interferes with my with my mousing abilities so i had to plug it into the left so you know depending on the devices that you're using if you got external ssds and stuff like that other dongles i think it just would have been nice for most users who are right-handed if the uh if the majority of ports were on the left side as opposed to the right just so it doesn't get in the way of your mouse small critique but worth pointing out and on the back we have uh our power power of course i'm glad that the power port is on the back and on one of the sides that was a smart move you also have mini display port hdmi and thunderbolt 4 so you can actually connect up to three displays to this laptop simultaneously if you want to take advantage of that and have even more of like a desktop experience and of course you can use that for for gaming for you know general productivity whatever you want which is really nice if you want to like dock this at home if you have like a triple mod or spread or even just one monitor um it's kind of nice to be able to have that option oh i should also mention the form factor of this thing it's actually fairly thin and light for having a 17.3 inch screen it weighs about five pounds like just barely like a hair over five pounds and at its thickest point it's just north of three and a quarter inches thick so this actually fits in my mini travel backpack that is supposed to only accommodate up to 15-inch laptops this guy fits in just fine we have some more physical features to talk about once we open up the laptop at the very top i'll just start at the top and work my way down at the very top you've got a 1 megapixel hd webcam there's your display of course which we'll get more into later once we're actually testing it out and then the keyboard the keyboard is full rgb you have per key customization with the lighting uh there's an app that comes included with that and it looks really bright vibrant you know you can dance around and stuff different effects all that good stuff uh and the actual keys themselves the this this keyboard is awesome i really like the the feel and the sound of of these keys they're just very tactile like the trap it actually has pretty decent travel for being as flat as they are they just feel really good going up and down they almost have like a bite to them they're snappy they have like a snap it's just it's really satisfying um and then you also have this really nice track pad the track pad works beautifully it's super smooth and maybe the the 300hz display is also helping with that illusion but it does work really well it's very precise super responsive that goes for the actual finger tracking as well as like the the tapping and gestures and stuff everything works really really well um it does have left and right click buttons at the bottom those don't feel quite as nice but i have a feeling most most people are just going to use the the tapping of the the touchpad or a connected mouse and there's also a fingerprint reader in the top left corner of the touchpad that also works really well this is the first laptop i think i've ever reviewed or even had here in the studio with a fingerprint reader and i'm an instant believer this is this is awesome uh although i should mention that um even if you don't want to use the the biometric uh reader for for like logging in and stuff um you also have a full 10 key number pad it makes it really easy to type in pins passwords friend codes gamer tags and all that good stuff oops sorry didn't mean to hit that that pretty much covers it for the physical features of the laptop oh there's a kensington lock on the left as well i forgot to mention that but kensington lock um two more things to mention before we start talking about performance first of which being the sound audio laptop speakers laptop audio is generally garbage and this laptop is no exception it is not the greatest uh there's virtually zero bass i don't think i've heard a laptop like laptop speakers with this little base it just sounds extremely tinny and kind of hollow and not very not very bumping at all however to its credit it does go up to max volume without any distortion and it does get fairly loud it's just loud garbage audio if anything and then the second thing was uh battery life i don't know the the kilowatt hours or milliamps of this battery at all but i did use it without plugging it in for a while just doing general productive use and i got about an hour and a half to no i would say roughly two hours i got roughly two hours with it so depending on what you're doing if you're like watching youtube videos or if you're watching 4k footage or something like that constantly then maybe it's going to drop down to maybe an hour and a half and if you're doing super super light use you know maybe you're just doing like word processing or something like that maybe you can get two and a half three hours out of it um and then gaming i didn't even try that because i mean if it's only lasting 90 minutes from watching youtube it's probably gonna last well under an hour firing up the game which is pretty much to be expected with a high-end laptop like this a high-end gaming laptop but if you're gonna be gaming on this thing obviously you're gonna want to plug it in anyway all right so let's talk about how games look and perform on the evo 17s starting with how they look so you can see here i've got red dead redemption 2 fired up and it it's pretty you guys probably can't tell from where you're sitting but it looks really good i know it's only a 1080 display but it's super sharp everything looks nice and crispy and i don't really have any complaints in that department color accuracy is pretty decent too it's not going to like blow you away compared to say like a 10-bit desktop monitor but it's pretty much in line with what you'd expect from a hand gaming laptop one thing i do wish though is that the screen was a little brighter it's not bad but and i think this is this is the case with a lot of gaming laptop displays it's just not super bright it's at max brightness right now and it's fine like in this environment it's kind of dimly lit right now in this room but i wouldn't try gaming on this thing in broad daylight and that's not anything specific to the evo 17s like i said this is pretty much the case with the majority of gaming laptops out there even the high-end ones there are a few out there that have really high knits but this one's pretty average and uh something to keep in mind although most of the time if you're gaming on this thing you're probably not going to be outside anyway i mean maybe in some instances but most of the time you're going to be near an outlet inside where you can actually control the ambient lighting and stuff as far as how games play on this thing it's it's pretty awesome i mean with an rtx 3080 max q and a core i7 processor it's it's pretty much one of the best gaming experiences that you can get on a mobile device um as far as pcs go so it's it's really fast the refresh rate is phenomenal in a game like this you're not going to notice it much but i was playing valorent last night and it just it kicks ass although i wasn't quite hitting nearly 300 frames per second in valorent um but even at like what i think it was hitting maybe 140 150 fps on average it was still a really good fluid experience if you can get a game to run at 300 fps on this thing it's just gonna be smooth as butter for the most part and then you combine that with uh with g-sync there's zero tearing whatsoever earlier in this game i cranked up the quality settings just pretty much maxed it out and as most you guys know red dead redemption 2 is a very crushing game when it's maxed out so we were averaging maybe 30 40 fps in some scenes and even at that lower frame rate i didn't see any tearing whatsoever so i figured that we would probably get you know outside of the g-sync range but uh i don't know exactly what that range is for this display it's it's well within within those boundaries so that was kind of nice to see so i mean overall i really like this display it looks great it performs well and you know in a game like reddit redemption 2 where it's just i mean this is a gorgeous title but i've seen it look like crap on the wrong monitor or the wrong display this one does it justice so it's i think that's a pretty good benchmark and indicator that uh that it's it's pretty solid all right i've turned on msi afterburner we've got riva statistics tuner up as well you can see the hud so that way you guys can follow along and sort of see how the system's behaving and how it's performing as we ride this horsey first things first right off the bat uh and probably the thing that you guys might have noticed first are the temperatures they are quite high and they look pretty alarming the gpu is right now at 83 c and the cpu is hovering in in the low 80s i was hitting like 86 87c earlier just a moment ago um which yeah is is a little scary those are scary numbers uh but of course when you're talking about a laptop the tj maxx for these uh these parts are configured and tuned for the form factor right so 84c on a gpu on a mobile gpu is not exactly the same as 84c on your desktop rtx 3080. that's all to say that these temps are normal and to be expected for for this particular laptop but having said that i would still recommend if you're gonna be gaming on this thing for extended periods of time for several hours i would recommend getting like a laptop cooler you know just just to keep the thermals in check um it's it's always good to have lower thermals even though the hardware can technically take it it's just one of those peace of mind things and also bear in mind that if you keep your temperatures lower then the fans in the laptop won't have to ramp up as high and you'll actually get better noise levels so acoustics plays a role in this as well if you look right over here you can see our gpu is hovering around 1400 between 1400 and 1500 megahertz that's the core clock speed and that's obviously significantly lower than what a full fat desktop rtx 3080 is capable of generally you see those hit around 18 1900 megahertz on average um but this is all par for the course remember this is an rtx 3080 with max q design so it's allowed to take about 150 watts i believe it's 150 watts that it can pull which when you compare that to a desktop rtx 3080 i mean i was running my rtx 3080 supreme x from msi a factory overclocked card not too long ago and afterburner was showing that pulling around 320 watts from the wall so that's obviously gonna lead to more power but also a lot more heat and when you're talking about a form factor like a laptop you're gonna have to scale that down to say 150 watts where the power output's not going to be as much or i'm sorry the performance levels not going to be as high but it's kind of what what you got to do given the environment that the gpu is running in you can also see that we're eating up quite a bit of memory uh 14 gigs thereabouts of system memory is currently being used so this is uh definitely one of those things where i would suggest the 32 gig option if you are going to be doing some high-end gaming playing uh some really hard-hitting aaa titles like red dead redemption 2. 16 gigs simply isn't cutting it like it used to be anymore for for that upper echelon of gaming so something to keep in mind especially if you're going to be running other applications in the background or streaming while gaming for example any of that stuff is going to be eating up a lot more ram if you have half a chrome tab open just just forget about it so something to bear in mind for sure and as you can see we're getting around 80 ish 80 to 90 fps um there are some dips into the 70s here and there but uh overall we're doing really well in a game like this so as far as the actual settings that i'm using for this title 1920 by 1080 of course we're using the the panel's native resolution and the settings are kind of in the high range it's sort of a blend we've got some settings on ultra some on medium but for the most part i would say we're running high settings on average dlss is set to balance uh this is just fantastic and the game still looks amazing it still looks incredible now if you're wondering if this laptop can handle gaming while streaming it definitely can i actually did a two-hour live stream with this laptop the other day and i was playing red dead redemption 2 and some valorant this is what i live for just to try things out and it was a public stream i had about you know my my usual 200 people 200 viewers in chat and giving me feedback i really wanted their real-time feedback on how the stream was looking and everything and they said it looked great on their end everyone said looks fantastic you know if it wasn't for my crappy usb webcam that i was using this channel runs on mayo they probably wouldn't have even noticed that i was streaming from a laptop and not my my usual desktop system here at the office i was streaming at 1920 by 1080 60 frames per second like i said i had that that webcam connected and honestly this laptop didn't miss a beat it was it was fantastic no dropped frames buttery smooth playback on both ends for for both me and the viewers uh it was it was great so that is the origin evo 17s in a nutshell oh one thing i forgot to point out a little little critique a little nitpick that i have um is are the volume keys the volume keys are you have to hit the function key at the hold function and then adjust the volume keys i wish they were dedicated i mean you adjust volume so frequently with any device with any pc that i just don't think it should have a function element to it it should just be a single key that you can hit and they clearly had enough space they have a 10k number pad on here so i'm not going to stop mentioning that in laptop reviews until manufacturers make that change or even a volume knob or a volume wheel that'd be that'd be amazing uh so but that's it uh so like i said there really aren't too many flaws with this laptop obviously it's not perfect but i feel like the few shortcomings that it does have are pretty minor and can easily be lived with uh over extended periods of time they're certainly not deal breakers in my opinion things like the volume keys uh the location of the usb ports and stuff like that but there's a lot to love about this laptop the keyboard is great as far as tactility goes feels awesome the trackpad works phenomenally and the display is really nice obviously this thing can be specced out to be a total powerhouse and handle pretty much anything you throw at it and i really love the fact that you can connect up to three external displays simultaneously it's a really nice touch i don't think i mentioned it yet but the msrp for this particular configuration that i have here is roughly thirty one hundred dollars u.s uh the evo 17s starts at around two thousand dollars but um the one i have here is roughly 3100 which isn't cheap but i think it's also how you look at it right because this is this is cream of the crop mobile gaming performance doesn't really get a whole lot better than this and that's 3 100 out the door versus if you look at the desktop side i mean a single rtx 3090 at least at the time of filming this video is selling for what it costs to buy this entire laptop so matter of perspective there but i'll leave you guys with that uh i would give this laptop a 9 out of 10. easy i think it's great and i would highly consider it as my daily driver for a laptop but thank you guys so much for watching this video toss a like on it if you enjoyed it get subscribed for more tech content coming at you really soon and i'll see you guys in the next video when g fuel approaches me finally one of these days for a custom flavor i bet your ass is going to be mayo\n"
