**The New Intel Core i9 Processors: What's the Big Deal?**

The new Intel Core i9 processors and X2-9900 motherboards are not exactly meant for the average user. They are high-end, enthusiast components designed for workstations and people who use resource-intensive applications that can take advantage of multiple cores and PCIe lanes. If those things don't really mean anything to you, then they're probably not for you. However, if you want the best of the best when it comes to gaming, video editing, 3D rendering, or four seriously high-end overclocking, then these chips might be worth considering.

**A Handy Table: The New Core i9 Processes**

Here's a handy table showing the five new core i9 processors, along with three new i7 and one new i5, all built on the latest cabling architecture. At the top of the line, we've got the i9-7980XE, which could be yours for a mere $2000 - a small price to pay for an insane 18-core processor that's the most cores ever on an Intel desktop processing. With Hyper-Threading, you're getting 36 threads, even on the entry-level 10-core i9-7990X, which costs just over $1000. This is high-end stuff we're talking about now.

**Competition: The New Rivals**

In terms of competition, it's going to be really interesting to see how these new Core i9 chips compare against AMD's current rising processors, including the Ryzen 8 and Ryzen 7 series. Intel has also announced their upcoming Thread Ripper chips, which are aimed at the enthusiast market, so we can expect a big fight between Intel's Core i9 chips and these new rivals.

**The X299 Socket: A New Complication**

One of the complications with the new X2-9900 motherboards is that they use a different pin layout socket 2066, which means you'll need a whole new motherboard to take advantage of these chips. And if you're thinking about pairing an X series Skylake processor with an X299 board, be aware that not all X299 boards are created equal, and you might not get access to all the features you'd want on a cable-like X series processor.

**The New X299 Chips: Not a Big Upgrade**

The new X299 chips are actually not a big upgrade over the current consumer Z 217 motherboards. However, they do offer more PCIe lanes - 24 PCIe 3 lanes compared to just 8 PCIe 2 lanes on the previous generation boards. The MSI Gaming Pro AC, which I have here, supports up to 4 graphics cards, 8 memory modules supporting DDR4 RAM, and has room for 2 M2 SSDs as well as one U2 SSD.

**The Removable Heatsink Covers: A Standout Feature**

What really stands out about the new X299 motherboards is their removable heatsink covers. These can be changed to different colors or even 3D printed with your own design - a feature that MSI is calling "Mystic Light". It's a nice touch, and something that shows off the motherboard's design.

chips which again are aimed at the enthusiast market I am playing to get systems with both the Corti 9 and the thread Ripper chips so I'm going to compare them test them see what the difference is so make sure you subscribe for that so that's the new court I nine processes incredibly expensive very very powerful not really meant for you are me grateful workstation and high-performance computing but people are getting a little bit annoyed because these new X series of processors yet again have a different pin layout socket 2066 and therefore require a whole new motherboard the X 299 and not only that but there's an added complication though the X 299 here supports both skylake and Kaiba Lake x-series chips which means a not all X 290 names are created equal and B if you were to pair an X series skylake processor with an X 299 board you might not get access to all the features that you would with a cable like X series processor on the same board so with me just put that there
