longer have to deal with the angled stuff and it looks like it's going to be in some beautiful beautiful colors so let's see what they've got on here the a14 bionic 5g well i mean honestly i live in a very rural town 5g is not going to do much for me but that a14 bionic i cannot wait it's still supposed to be in the ipad air right hopefully we'll be able to buy the ipad air here pretty soon so it looks like the iphone 12 pre-order will start this friday on october 16th and it will ship the week after that the iphone 12 mini pre-order will start on november 6th looks like it's going to be 6.99 looks like a fanta they're saying it's 11 thinner 15 smaller 16 lighter mini i mean the mini looks great you all know that i love small cell phones i it's gonna be tough it's gonna be tough i've really enjoyed the iphone 11 and i really enjoy the se i'll probably have to as a tech youtuber i'm gonna buy both but which one will be my main phone let's find out i don't know yet but they are the cool thing is they've made the screen a little bit bigger on all of the phones they're keeping with the super retina the xdr display that we see on the highest end monitors like the ipad pro that gigantic monitor that they sell with the mac pro it looks fantastic again 5g ceramic shield they've got they worked with corning to get like a new type of glass for the front face of the phone itself that's nuts we were talking about this like last week with the apple watch which you can see my sweet tan line here it's got sapphire glass for the higher end models and this is ceramic shield sounds like something my paladin on world of warcraft has but it says it has four times better drop performance which would be very exciting to see aerospace aluminum those edges those edges man i'm telling you this thing looks beautiful i don't want to talk about 5g because again 5g is not going to do much for me but the a14 bionic it's a 6 core cpu in a cell phone in that mini cell phone it's got a 6 core cpu that's as powerful if not more powerful than last generation laptop processors like that's going to be insane and that buys us some really cool capabilities that we'll talk about here in a second we already talked about the display the dual cameras so much like the iphone 11 they'll keep up with the iphone 12 well they'll have the wide and the ultra wide angle lenses so they did add some really cool stuff to that wide angle lens it's now f 1.6 now what that means is that's the aperture that's the amount of light that is led into the lens the lower that number is the more light that's led into the sensor on the camera so like right now we're on an f 1.8 lens on a full frame which don't worry too much about like equivalencies or stuff like that but just 1.6 means there will be a lot more light and this should do way better in low light situations what i am curious about though is the more light you let in the shallower the depth of field gets so like the the bigger the difference between what's in focus and what's out of focus on smartphones it's generally not that big of a problem because they have slower lenses but this is going to be a fast lens i'm curious how they're going to be able to hold up with the the auto focusing on that all sorts of new portrait modes the power you can see we're going to be able to do a whole bunch of new like hdr photo editing inside of the photo app which will be crazy that's going to be amazing i'm so excited because they are going to have the 4k hdr they're going to have 4k hdr video processing that will be we're going to be able to do in the phone and i bet with the power of that a14 we're going to have no problems editing that in that uh we're going to do a video we're already going to do it can you use the iphone 12 it's your only video editing computer video i said video like five times there but we're definitely going to be doing one of that because dolby vision looks great night mode in the selfie mode too but here's what i'm most excited about here's i love accessories obviously we make a whole bunch of accessory videos magsafe is coming to the iphone so there's going to be a magnet system into the back of the iphone that will work with a whole bunch of accessories and it's going to be so great i mean yeah sure things like wallet i don't know that i would ever use that but just like wireless charging i don't like doing wireless charging because my phone has fallen off of wireless chargers before in the night i wake up no battery power kind of sucks right when that happens to you a couple of times you lose faith in that technology but this mag safe makes it basically that that will not happen because the charger will hook onto the magnet and that's oh so good i'm so excited i can't wait to buy a whole bunch of these accessories because it looks great looks great and you can see apple's going to have a whole bunch of first party accessories for this magsafe uh i hope they said belkin is going to make a whole bunch of accessories too i guarantee all sorts of brands are going to get on top of this looks like it's going to be some fantastic stuff we are going to have ios 14 with all the widgets and stuff like that and one of the big things much like with the apple watch series 6 they are working on reducing their carbon footprint and i still i think this is a good thing i know there's a lot of very cynical angry people on the internet saying well you're not going to give me a charger so you're just doing this to save money i guarantee they had to spend a lot of money to make all the new packaging to retool everything to make everything work in this kind of new carbon neutral environment so i don't know how much money they're actually saving but they are saving a lot of extra electronic waste and i like that and look how small this iphone box is this iphone box looks tiny they're going to try to save 450 000 equivalent of 450 000 fewer cars on the road this year that's awesome we're going to be able to get all sorts of new augmented reality stuff they're going to have lidar in the back 5g maybe we'll have to go to a big city to try out 5g because we're not again we're not going to have it in my little town here so that's the iphone 12. i will definitely be pre-ordering one of those next week so let's move over to the iphone 12 pro because it did look gorgeous there was some very gorgeous stuff on that now it will have the exact same processor as on the iphone 12 power wise it's the same device they didn't mention too much about battery life either generally that's one of the ways that pro has the advantages it has better battery life than the standard phone so we'll have to see says it's got less bezel more screen and these phones did look like they had crazy sharp and very like very small bezel displays it almost looks like one of the the thing that i tweeted about was it looks like they took an ipad lowered the bezels i added the notch and turned it into a phone and we all know how much i love the ipad so i'm 100 on board with that it also has the ceramic shield they say it's surgical grade stainless steel which is kind of cool blows other phones out of the water get it blows them out of the water because it's going to be resistant to stuff sounds funny looks like it's gonna come in four colors pacific blue gold silver and graphite looks beautiful it will also have 5g a14 that's the name of the game for these phones and what makes them exciting because this is the first five nanometer chip that they're putting in phones and for comparison like when they say like five nanometer or when they talk about nanometer of their processors it just means like how small the actual components are so the smaller the components the more you can fit in there the more transistors you can fit on the chip for example intel is currently struggling with seven nanometer technology which is what all the current apple silicon is so five nanometer technology that's crazy and i really hope this is what i'm hoping is that we can start seeing some five nanometer apple macbooks coming out i would love to i would love to see that this isn't a video about apple silicon macbooks but i would love to see that 70 faster machine learning lidar again you only really ever use lidar once i'm really hoping that we see more functionality for the lidar cameras but who uses them so for this we still have that wide angle with the f 1.6 aperture there was another where was the other one they do have a main like wide camera on here that has a bigger sensor which actually has so my favorite camera actually these two cameras here have what's called optical image stabilization where the sensor moves around a little bit inside of the body of the camera and that takes the shakeout if you're doing stuff handheld well this is what the new on the pro max they're going to do the same thing there with their bigger sensor they're going to shift it around so that you can take out so you can make the stabilization much better for that's cool with video and then for portraits or photos if you're doing that it lets you get a slower shutter speed so you can let more light in without introducing a lot of motion blur which is bad when you're taking photos obviously which means even better low light performance which is crazy that stuff is crazy there will be a telephoto and telephoto lens so for spoiler alerts if you're not a camera nerd 50 millimeter is considered a standard focal length it's just roughly what the human eye sees so it's not really telephoto 65 millimeter it's tighter than 50 but it's not really telephoto either but we'll just as opposed when it comes to phones okay it's it's kind of telephoto right another cool thing that they're doing with this new camera is they came out with a whole new like format for pictures called apple pro raw so what this is when you take a raw photograph the camera is not doing any processing to it and sure it's cool that phones can do that but one of the phone's unique advantage is it has this such powerful cpu and gpu inside of it it's kind of a shame to take raw photos on a phone and throw away all of that capability so what pro raw kind of does is it merges the two together is it gives you some computational capabilities but also giving you all of the information of the file it's that stuff i can't wait to get my hands on it because that looks really exciting we already talked about the dolby vision so i'm not going to talk about it too much other than the pro line of cameras we'll be doing 10 bit video now again we're kind of talking camera nerd talk right now so right now i'm recording in 10 bit on my sony a7 s3 for one reason you see this background hopefully even after youtube's mauled it with their compression you won't see what's called banding and that's little like lines like little circles pushing out from that pushing out for the light source because there's only so many colors that an 8-bit file or a regular camera can see but with 10-bit your camera can see more colors and process more colors so it gives you smooth gradations in like the sky or lit solid color backgrounds like this so now the iphone is going to be able to do 10-bit video we should have so much more like capability and color space that we can maneuver and make look even better on the phone this is high level camera stuff that phone should always have been able to do but now that they're really getting into it cameras are cameras are in a tough spot right here the pro and the pro max will have up to a 1200 nit peak brightness for hdr content that's insane 2 million to 1 contrast ratio real life is going to start looking washed out and boring i'm only going to be i'm only going to look at my phone i'm just going to glue the phone to my face from now on instant traction we already talked about magsafe we already talked about charging
