The Future of Remote Control: Introducing Tether Cell
Hey guys, this is Simon Sage from imore. We're checking out a brand new Indiegogo project called tether cell. We've got Kevin Kell, and he's got an app-enabled battery set up here. So, can you walk us through it?
The device essentially makes battery-operated devices controllable from a smartphone. Our device takes a AA operated battery device, and you replace the standard battery with our Tether Cell, which is powered by a tripa. Embedded within it is some intelligence Bluetooth 4.0 specifically that allows you to connect to any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone.
Here's the app. This is an iPhone 4S, and it connects to this device through tether. On and off on and off, obviously, with on and of capabilities present. You can set device schedules and get alerts when batteries are running low. And yeah, it's a pretty straightforward UI experience. We have some details to work out but right now you can get this on Indiegogo just search for Tether Cell, and you can own one right now.
It's at a somewhat premium price because these are the first to be offered, so about $30 per unit if you get two, it's a bit less or four. We're selling in packs of one, two, and four, and once we get beyond Indiegogo, these will be sold at retail and will be much cheaper.
Do you have any kind of like API available? Are third-party developers going to be able to tap into these at all? We're trying to get a feel for that right now. If we get a sense that it's a value, which it is for a lot of devices these days, we would be glad to offer that. We actually welcome the idea of making this a hackable product. Both Kevin and I are hackers at heart, and we would love to make this a product that can be modified and customized by users.
Great thanks a lot!
