A Look Inside the World of High-Performance Honda Cars

Our author recently had the opportunity to visit a unique collection of high-performance Honda cars, each with its own story and characteristics. The owner of these vehicles took us on a tour of his garage, showcasing his passion for building and collecting rare and powerful Honda models.

The owner's love affair with Honda began with a car that he purchased and restored himself. "We bought the car and we restored the whole engine bay here in-house," he explained. "Looks super sick, it's nice right? Not bad." This car was just one of many in his collection, which included four blue hatchbacks each serving a different purpose.

The owner's favorite part of his collection was the Supercharged type part, which he loved for its sound and aesthetic appeal. "I love The Supercharged type part because it's just like I could see myself driving that all the time," he said. "And like it just makes the right noises, it's fun, it's a great street car." He also showed us his freshly built K-series engine, complete with detailed components and precise engineering.

The owner's passion for Honda cars extended beyond his own collection to include building custom cars for others. He mentioned that he had recently built an all-wheel-drive Civic, which he planned to take to the track to test its performance. "I want to build you an all-wheel drive Civic and I want you to take another track like hopefully you're out here," he said. "I want to take you I want to have you drive my street car on the track that way you get a feel for it."

He also expressed his enthusiasm for building drift cars, citing the wrinkle floor design as an example of a common feature used in these vehicles. The owner's own drift car had a specially painted interior, designed to withstand the rigors of frequent use at the track.

As we explored the garage, we came across a variety of other Honda models, each with its own unique character and story. The owner shared his knowledge of various components and upgrades that can be used to improve performance in these cars. He also mentioned that some of his cars have made over 2,000 horsepower, although he noted that this was not always the case.

One car caught our eye - a stock chassis Honda with an all-motor configuration, which had just set a new record for eight-second passes. "This car right here is the first all-motor car stock chassis to go eight seconds," the owner explained. "That's insane." He also mentioned that he had previously built cars with engines producing up to 700 horsepower.

As we concluded our tour of the garage, the owner extended an invitation for us to visit again and take a closer look at some of his other projects. We were told that one of these would be a private day spent driving the Sonic car's sequential transmission - "it'll be like a walk in the park," he joked.

right so every everywhere I go people thinks of the clearing or like all the Ferraris or the lambo and I'm just like it's just accurate I think they get upset when I tell them that car's cool but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have any cup holders no it's not a Lambo we're able to have couple this is accurate oh hell yeah it's got cup holders it feels pretty uh like the trans like feels pretty directly connected I don't know if that makes sense like it doesn't feel like it's a slush box at all it runs pretty good yeah it has two more watches hybrid I'm gonna get quiet it'll turn off when we get to the light it's just like driving a Tesla it's just like it turned off all right I just floor it yeah sounds good that feels soft though do I need to launch it um I've never launched at me but you can try you can you could try it sounds real good if you shifted yourself it might be a little bit better really I don't know but let me put it in the other one very good I love how it sounds sounds good right I think I think my FD could beat it no erase them no way yeah I think so I think it just feels too comfortable for you it doesn't oh I think that D could beat it no I don't know dude I'll put some money on it you wanna do some Highway pulls I'll put some money on it all right I think so I'll take that 500 large wait what does that mean 500 quizzes I think we should I me what they are um I forget the name of the color but that is a ITV K20 Type R EG hatch has endless brakes all the way around uh roll bars twin C's swim cluster you can Wheels 91 NSX um border from Canada like maybe four years ago t-37s my front wheel drive outlaw turbo car nitrous K24 EG hash damn dude your shit's all so nice but this is just half of our cars I know and then 50 000 mile Integra type Arbon stock and then my supercharged ITR my brother's Huracan so sick all these things just hide and dude eat like every detail on your car is so good like I'm looking even at the tie exhaust on this thing remember I was telling you because I came here shop by the end of this race and I was like oh my God I don't want there's like a Honda in my garage that has them on this car's sick I love the color too yeah this car is dope it's for sale no I actually bought it from a good friend of mine and uh he like regrets selling it every time I talk to him but it's I wish I could pull it down right now but it's so good ITB is like they like lean a little bit they can close the hood so it's like a factory street car plus this doesn't look Factory but you can close it I love it so what are we taking out now I want to take you for a ride in my supercharged Type R because I want you if you've been driving a CRX I want to give you a feeling for a k-series and something that has a little bit of power so you can drive and you can Flash shift it I do like the idea of like a supercharged K versus a k turbo all right after you drive this like I know you said it won't do good at the compound because how much power but it'll give you a different uh idea of what Hondas can do you know for like a street car no I dig it can I see under the hood yeah yeah I haven't driven this thing in a long time is there anybody that has a Honda collection like you I don't want to say no because a lot of people out there but I think I have one of the best Honda Collections and you've got like they're it's all like done really nice too yeah like the finish work is great we do a great job on my shop so what does this make for power this car makes 320 on pump gas and then it has a flex fuel obviously uh 380 on E85 and what what's it on right now oh it's on pump gas so this motor's full stock K20 Type R uh has like Drop in 2.2 jackpot cams and type our transmission with a mercs racing supercharger uh car it's pretty quick for as far as a car being heavy so it hooks up pretty good but super fun to drive you said K20 Type R what is a K20 Type R come in uh dc5 uh Type R from Japan interesting and they make two of them they make an ep3 Type R motor which is like the slower engine this has the dc5 Type R engine because this this would have normally come with a B18 right correct yeah but it'll come with it this is a factory hell yeah it would look like this it's so clean so this is like this car this this car is not modded this car is all original this is the one that you keep and appreciates and this is the one that you appreciate this is the one that yeah but we're gonna beat the out of this hell this is what this is for hell yeah I left the intake off because I got a titanium one but it'll be all right just like that I can't wait for you to drive it is it going to go here no you're gonna hit a supercharger the most it sounds Tommy said it sounds like a little kid screaming underneath the hood what's it rub to uh nine nine grand hell yeah nine thousand all right let's take it for a rip you know I cried one time because my dad didn't buy an Integra I remember I was a young kid and we went and test drove it was in Naugatuck uh a better a better Motors or a better way Motoring Integra like this this body style yeah didn't buy it and I was so so they wound up getting sprayed but which I think well like this is cool but it was just what wouldn't last by GSR event so much fun this car worthy thing anywhere from 40 to 50 Grand just because of how much money is in it like z28s and Calpers if it was Taco would still be worth over 30 wouldn't it like that one in my garage yeah that car is probably like north of north of big money yeah yeah so like they just gained value it was like that car is matching paint like all original paint matching VIN number all original clean Carfax our belt the stock long Buck is dropping cams instead we got a tunnel coming up just a little bit it sounds different it does right yeah supercharged car now the turbo it's different I'm going to show you how different okay like this will flap for every year yeah yeah like it's so good it's almost like it's automatic temperatures almost actually temperature is up there so we should ignition cut or you just said no I just send it there's no this car is on like am Infinity but like Jamie tuned his car back for me like four years ago and I've been driving it since I love the limiter how fast it is the ratio sounds so tight too yeah did you expect that just now or no no the noise I didn't expect it just like stays up there yeah like calm just now you're like holy this has that yeah it sounds so good right it really does this is probably the best sounding camp in it it sounds good like I I wish I get like a quieter exhaust but I put this car together like for these clothes on like four years ago a lot of newer stuff is out now to make it quieter but it just makes like the noise of the charger sounds so good yeah I've driven other chargers cars and they don't sound like this I don't know why but yeah yeah I'll give like a quick one to up here the boys You Gotta Give me a little bit noise under the tunnel I got you give me so good these are the best cars dude when you just do a pull and all you're doing is giggling after it's so good like this is your first experience in the cases I want to make sure it's good before you jump into some rap box like all right I don't really like the Hondas no more you know yeah yeah for overall experience to you like how is it oh it's a nice car it's fast it makes good sounds it looks cool would you drive or have something like this in your stable hell yeah dude you trying to give it to me I'll sell it to know when you should just driving around like partial throttle and some Zippy because of the supercharger yeah and then the this car is like a 90 mil throttle body so like the throttle response like right there interest ing why didn't you go with the 89 why did you choose a 90. let's see ready oh my God I would get so in trouble with this car in trouble oh we're good we're good Yo cool okay all right I need to put the car in first when you wrap around this again Yes again bro beat the out of the car wait is the cop turning around floor it put two three zippers on the money that was so good I we're here me and my brother built this garage from scratch this is my first shop before my house before my actual shop so we literally moved out of here and then moved into my shop took us four years to renovate that place we were just at so it's so sick I can't wait at the end of this video I'm gonna give you guys a quick tour of the place and they can see how nice it is but I'm actually glad you I won I'll give you aside in the camera I think your car is way faster top end because you could see I was in fifth and then you just Cruise right by me I think if I could shift this how it needs to be shifted shifted like you shifted my type R in there you'd have me oh yeah it wouldn't even be it wouldn't even be close I don't think that I won the money I feel like I feel like that's a tie in my eyes I feel like we should do around too I mean I'm down to go again I think I might have an idea but I just feel like you gave me two hits where like I miss shifted like I that's a loss no I that's at the end of the day I was in a clean run you know so like I wanted a clean race if you could I think if I give you the break no I don't even need the hit I just need to be able to shift it so I'm thinking maybe I need to like push it over more and it's not a shifting thing like it's getting stuck between the first and third gate you did real go to the type R race like you gotta didn't do like could tell both cars are making almost the same power um I don't I don't remember how much this car weighed if I remember I think his might be a little bit less than mine but I don't think enough to take a huge difference but as far as obviously he has to shift and I have the paddle which gives me the advantage but that was a really really good race we both pretty much agreed for all intents and purposes I think that counts as a tie I think I got more car but I just can't drive it I agree if you could somehow whatever shift that car a little bit faster you definitely would have beat me 100 so money was on the line but we're just gonna call it a wash I wanted to give you guys a quick tour I'm about to go head out to the skate park so we're gonna do a condensed one I want you to show me some of the cars and make sure to pop the hoods because the level of detail you guys do is like insane so what is what is this shop basically restoration car dealership giveaway I do perform like everything race cars like pretty much anything car related this is a giveaway car just to kind of show you guys what's got going on cage no interior a little bit of interior you know tease of course I don't know too much about that break here is it like uh I don't know oh the AP Racing yeah I don't really know much about them but I don't know too much either so what uh what kind of motor is this supposed to make this car is probably I think like 230 the stock K20 A2 Type S but this is just full stock engine this is basically like a show car type of car it's cool and then this is the all-wheel drive car I'm not going to talk about this because we had uh I think quite a bit of content on it already but what's that thing make yes that makes a thousand what's the deal with this one so this was I got it from Canada car is like has a bunch of spoon parts so we bought the car and we restored the whole engine bay here in-house looks super sick it's nice right not bad what's your favorite color insane guys look at this thing even the little details like shaving all the holes down like packaging the brackets the lines you all know what you're doing huh I want to build you an all-wheel drive because after you get a ride in that I think you're gonna be like all right cool I know what this car is about what the Hondas are about there's so much going on here I feel like we could talk about it forever even the inside dude like so dialed I would love to see your take on building a drift car because it'd probably come out so nice I wouldn't know where to start though look at this what's funny is the the whole like wrinkle floor thing A lot of people do that on drift cars too because like obviously if you're in here a lot and like uh the track kicks up a lot of like rocks and stuff so like with that car I painted the inside and I got scratched up so this you can like super super durable look at all that back there everything's just super tidy try to keep it clean underneath the car looks too they're good I'll put it up so I can show you remember using the driver yeah this one's a lot cleaner than anything we've built all-wheel drive sequential what kind of power are you shooting for for camera I don't know everyone know these cars make like 14 1500 they go upward like three factors car they make like over 2 000. but to get my feet wet I'll start off at 1200 work my way up just to get your feet away you know yeah man all our cars they like make a thousand wheel you know thing just as clean under as it is up top a whole lot of stuff that I don't know a lot about but just wagon the typical stuff DSS axles you know stream suspension aluminum drive shaft build everything it's crazy smells good I like how it smells Jamie me the most power we've ever made with this car this season last time we had this car back out was 2021 World Cup finals uh 700 horsepower all motor so I pulled the injectors out to get them cleaned but this was literally the other day what's the uh what's the displacement on a motor like this this car is too it starts off as a K24 and then it's a stroke a stroker has a 106 millimeter crank but like these engines are like high compression you know like obviously you swap them all during the season but That's crazy dude 700 all motor we made 600 last year and then this car like 700 we did a few changes and this is just insane so this car right here is the first all-motor car stock chassis to go eight seconds that's insane Jamie's a Savage uh it's like we're so far away from seven seconds but like it's close like I don't know what the car is going to do making seven May 711 Wheel Horse next time I'm up here we got to do a private day together I wanna I wanna go when you guys are testing the cars and maybe take a spin in like one of
