The Mate 20X 5G: A Gaming Powerhouse with a Premium Price Tag
It's fair to say that this won't be for everyone, as there's quite a premium price tag attached to it. The phone was initially priced at around £999, but for those who are big gamers or power users looking for the latest and greatest 5G connectivity, this is definitely worth considering.
The Mate 20X 5G is an updated version of the original Mate 20X that launched back in April, alongside the P30 Pro. While it shares many similarities with its predecessor, there have been some notable changes. The phone still runs on Huawei's powerful Kirin 980 chip, but now comes with eight gigs of RAM instead of six, and 256GB of storage is available instead of the original 128GB.
However, there are a couple of compromises to be made. The battery has been reduced in size to 4200mAh from 5000mAh, which may not be ideal for those who need a phone that can last all day long. Additionally, the three and a half-millimeter headphone jack has been removed, which is always a shame for those who still use wired headphones.
The phone's performance is where things get really interesting. The Kirin 980 chipset provides fast performance, but it does take up some room in the phone, resulting in a slightly smaller device. However, this is a necessary compromise to make 5G connectivity possible. To compensate, Huawei has included a pair of USB-C earphones in the box and dual speakers that still provide great sound quality.
One area where the Mate 20X 5G truly shines is its display. The phone boasts an incredible 7.2-inch screen that makes playing games on the go an absolute joy. The screen size alone provides a tablet-like experience, but it's still compact enough to fit in your pocket. This huge screen also helps to boost performance and make gaming feel even more immersive.
The Mate 20X 5G is also equipped with a fancy graphene film and vapor chamber cooling solution that keeps the phone cool even during long gaming sessions. The phone's software optimizations, such as GPU Turbo 3, which supports over 80 games currently, mean that everything feels fast and responsive, even after extended gaming sessions.
Speaking of performance, one of the standout features of the Mate 20X 5G is its 5G connectivity. This is one of the few phones that supports dual 5G SIMs, allowing users to switch between two different networks or use one for calls while keeping the other for data. While 5G is still in its early stages and availability varies greatly by country, region, and even city, it has huge potential for faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and lower latency.
For competitive gaming, this means reduced latency of less than 1 millisecond, compared to around 21 milliseconds on 4G. This could give gamers an edge when competing online. Additionally, the Mate 20X 5G supports game streaming from services like Google Stadia, although users will need to get an unlimited data contract for this feature.
The good news is that Huawei has assured us that the Mate 20X 5G will receive Android 10 updates and future versions of EMUI white software. This ensures that the phone will stay up-to-date and secure for a long time.
In conclusion, if you're looking to buy a new phone that's future-proof with cutting-edge technology like 5G connectivity, the Mate 20X 5G is definitely worth considering. While it may come with some compromises, such as a reduced battery life or the loss of the headphone jack, the benefits far outweigh these drawbacks. With its massive display, powerful performance, and advanced cooling system, this phone is sure to provide an exceptional gaming experience.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys I'm Tom the tech chap and this well this is something really special actually it's the new Huawei mate 20x 5g so I've actually punished with Huawei for this video so I could bring you this quick unboxing and hands on as early as possible because this really is something a little bit different now opening up the first thing we see is that massive slab of glass that's the 7.2 inch phone but putting it to one side for just a second we also get the usual gubbins of a sim ejector a handy clear silicone case to keep it safe we get while weighs 40 watts super charger a USBC cable and a pair of earphones all very nice but let's get back to the phone now I don't think I've used the word phablet in about five years or something but this really is a big phone as I say for 7.2 inch display if you're gonna watching movies on this or playing games and you want the best most immersive sort of viewing experience then it's nothing really quite like this on the market so the headline features here include that huge full view screen the premium design with a tiny dewdrop notch housing the 24 megapixel selfie camera 5g connectivity flagship specs long battery life triple camera setup and did I mention that huge screen now you can actually get this in any color you like as long as it's emerald green because I think that's the only option we have in most territories but it does look good unlike some of the models of the mate 20 pro we also have the textured back which makes it a bit less slippery to hold plus it shares the same triple camera set up with an ultra wide lens a 40 megapixel main lens and a three times optical zoom and of course Huawei's awesome night mode there's a rare fingerprint reader rather than in screen one which they say makes it more ergonomic and I reckon I agree actually it's far more comfortable using my index finger on the back we also get an IR blaster for controlling your smart home tech and if I p53 water resistance so yeah this is a big phone and fairly hefty at 233 grams but at eight point four millimeters it's still fairly thin actually I do think it's fair to say that this won't be for everyone I mean there's quite a premium price type where they were looking at about 999 pounds but if you're a big gamer you're a power user and you want that 5g connectivity right now then this is definitely worth considering so you may remember that while we launched the original mate 20x back in April and the same event as the P Thani Pro but now we have this updated 5g version although that's not the only change it still runs Huawei's powerful keren 980 chip the same as the P Thani pro but now we get eight gigs of ram up from six on the mate 20 x 4g along with 256 gigs of storage there have been a couple of compromises though the battery is smaller down to 4200 mAh from 5000 mAh plus we've lost the three and a half mil headphone jack why always say that the bank 5005 G chipset that they're using in here does take up some room in the phone and so that's just been a compromise necessary to get 5g in this but you do get a pair of USB C earphones in the box and also this dual speakers although the top one is just using the earpiece speaker but one thing that has not changed is that gorgeous 7.2 inch screen which makes playing games so much more immersive jump into a bit of pub G asphalt 9 or maybe even candy crush you know whatever floats your boat it's so awesome playing mobile games on such a big screen you're basically getting a tablet experience but in a phone that does still fit in your pocket now it is true that some other gaming phones on the market have high refresh rates and also they've stuck with 1080p resolution here but I don't really have a problem with either of those things firstly the vast majority of mobile games are locked to either 30 or 60 FPS anyway and so actually sticking at 60 Hertz and KTP means we get a much better battery life with normal use I can easily get a day and a half out of the mate 20x plus we have that superfast 40 watt charger so if you're in a rush you can get a day's use in about half an hour and it's not just the screen size that makes this a great gaming phone we've got the high-end specs combined with a fancy graphene film and vapor chamber cooling solution that keeps everything nice and cool even after long gaming sessions plus their software optimizations like GPU turbo 3 which is supported in over 80 games right now so everything feels fast even after your sixth game of pub G but as it says on the tin the big new feature really is that 5g support actually this is one of the few phones that supports dual 5g Sims you can put two 5g SIM cards in here or you can't use them both for data at the same time but you can use one for calls and then one for data which is handy if you in a bit of a patchy area for one of the networks now of course 5g is still in its early stages it does vary hugely by country region and even City right now there's about a dozen areas here in London that have 5g support and I will be testing that properly in my next video on the May 20 X but as with any cutting-edge new tech it's always gonna take a while to properly roll out I mean 5g has huge potential for much faster speeds higher bandwidth and most importantly for gaming actually lower latency so you can play games online with potentially less than 1 millisecond latency that's down from around 21 milliseconds of 4G so that will give you an edge in competitive gaming plus opens up the potential for game streaming from services like hat shadow and stadia although you'll definitely want to get an unlimited data contract for these so yeah it is early days for 5g right now but if you're looking to buy a new phone and he wanted to be future proof then this is one a few 5g devices you can actually buy right now while we have guaranteed that the may 20 X 5g here will get Android 10 support and of course also there updates of eme white n so we are going to get the next version of Google software on this but that is good news that this will be getting the next update so if you fancy buying one of these for yourself I put a link in the description and let me know what you make of the mate 20x 5g with that huge screen in the comments below is bigger always better thank you so much watching guys hit
